I loved it.

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Has anyone read Steel's Edge (The Edge, #4) by Ilona Andrews - Worth reading? Given I love her Magic series?

message 6509: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I don't like that series at all. Generally, the reaction is mixed. I have two friends that love it. I appreciate that the world is well done and very unique, I just don't like the flow of the story. I find the romance to be weird and not well balanced with the fantasy elements. But others like it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments So I finally picked up a book. The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta

Let me know what you think, Wendy. And FYI - which I didn't clue into, its book one of a series.

Is it good?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I'm liking it so far, but I think part of that has to do with my curiosity to want to have questions answered that the t.v. show isn't answering. The book is already much more forthcoming with answers.

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Started Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake which is quite good. Maybe not funny so much as clever. I'm also reading a Western, Nobody's Darling which is good as well...and I just finished Kiss of Steel which was OK but I didn't really like the hero.

Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers, #1) by Sarah MacLean Nobody's Darling by Teresa Medeiros Kiss of Steel (London Steampunk, #1) by Bec McMaster

Outlander? Because honestly, that's the only TV show I know about and I only know about that because of Jill.

I loved Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake. I am glad you like it. :)

message 6521: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Oh...I really enjoyed The Highwayman's Daughter. Though it's a bit different to the usual historical romance.

message 6522: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am reading Dust to Dust (Experiment in Terror, #9) by Karina Halle and listening to Stranger in My Arms by Lisa Kleypas

It's funny how book tastes can evolve so quickly. Before I read The Baron's Betrothal I was completely uninterested in historical romance...now I think I read at least 1, sometimes 2 a month.

Same with Western romance. Wasn't at all interested in them until I read Ellen O'Connell. Honestly, they're still a little hit and miss...I read one by Catherine Anderson which made me feel ill...it was so cheesy. But Nobody's Darling is looking like a hit.

You're right. They are hit and miss. I read almost all of mine in the last two or three years and while I liked most, there were a few I wouldn't mind forgetting.

No, The Leftovers is a show.

It looks too creepy for me...although it is HBO so I'll probably get to see lady bits...then again it's HBO so I'll probably see man bits as well and that's just eww.

I've tried a few by Catherine Anderson, and I don't think I made it through either one of them. If I did, I either blocked it out or I can't remember it. LOL

message 6528: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I finished Stranger in My Arms by Lisa Kleypas and I loved so much about it but a very very stupid plot device to create conflict.

message 6529: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I'm reading The Beautiful Ashes (Broken Destiny, #1) by Jeaniene Frost .

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Read If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman . It was alright. Not good, not bad.

This one is on my to be read list. After seeing the way they butchered The Fault in Our Stars (IMO) I want to make sure I read this before I go see the movie.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments If I know I'm going to see a book-to-movie adaptation, I really try to read the book first. I think the previews for The Giver look good and I am going to be reading that soon. I "think" I might have read it years ago but I don't know if I'm confusing it with another book now or not.

message 6534: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments That was the first book I read on my Kindle when I first got my Kindle in the fall of 2009. :) My daughter just saw the movie and thought the movie adaptation made was better than the book.

Yes, it's definitely the way to go. I probably wouldn't have read The Fault in Our Stars yet if the movie hadn't come out, so I guess the silver lining of the movie is that I'm not missing out on the book any more. LOL

Samantha | 419 comments Reading Prisoner of My Desire by Johanna Lindsey

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Finished The Saint (The Original Sinners White Years, #1) by Tiffany Reisz and it was good. I'm not sure when I stopped hating Soren and started loving him but I adore that man now. It only took me an entire series to get to this point, but hey...

message 6539: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Now I am starting Shifting Shadows Stories from the World of Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs and listening to The Becoming (The Becoming, #1) by Jessica Meigs

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Regina, The Becoming makes me think of The Walking Dead because a virus leaves Atlanta and zombies happen. You'll have to let us know how it is.

message 6541: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Stacia, I just realized that this morning! It is a male narrator and I don't do great with male narrators (especially with female voices) so I may switch to the text. But so far it is good.

message 6542: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments who is the narrator regina?

message 6544: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments never heard of him...i'm picky about my male voices - but there are some I like

message 6545: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Isn't that weird? I am picky too about male voices. I don't know why.

message 6546: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments i dunno - although some of my favorite narrators are male (simon vance, robert peckhoff, phil gigante)

message 6547: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I love Phil Gigante. I don't know the others by name.

message 6548: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I don't like male narration at all. I can deal with a woman doing a guys voice but I can't deal with a guy doing a woman's voice. I don't mind if the narration is done by an ensemble...but I remember one which was kind of weird (can't remember the book). Both narrators (a woman and a man) did both female and male characters.

message 6549: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I agree Ian mostly. Not sure why it is that way for me.

message 6550: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished reading Temptation in a Kilt (Bad Boys of the Highlands, #1) by Victoria Roberts which was fun. I also started Isla and the Happily Ever After (Anna and the French Kiss, #3) by Stephanie Perkins last night and I couldn't stop reading it. I finished it at 1:30am. I haven't stayed up late to finish a book in ages. So, for those who loved Anna and the French Kiss, you should definitely pick up Isla.
