Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished reading a funny guy POV romance... The Bro-Magnet (Nice Guy, #1) by Lauren Baratz-Logsted and I liked it. I'm off to search for my next book.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I was on a weird erotica short story train today.

Impatient by Viola Grace - was not taboo, just different, but an unusual sci-fi take on sleeping beauty with random shifter and telekinesis additions.
Hammered by the Hydra by Persephone Parsons - for my monster erotica group. It was funny and cheesy but entertaining.

Peggyzbooksnmusic Finished Seduced by a Pirate (Fairy Tales, #4.5) by Eloisa James by Eloisa James A fun, sexy Regency romance.

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished the audio for Driving Her Wild (Wilinski's, #3) by Meg Maguire and I enjoyed it. It was a quick audio as I finished in a few hours while I worked today.

I also finished a very cute and fun RomCom Love Like the Movies by Victoria Van Tiem .

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I just started Come Home to Me by Brenda Novak. She writes Romantic Suspense and Contemporary Romance...and I think she might do a little Historical Romance as well.

I always end up enjoying her books but I sometimes find them hard to get into. I don't even know why but there seems to be an edge to some of her books that makes me uneasy.

I've actually walked away from a few...not because they were bad so much, as they were bad for me.

Love Like the Movies was great fun. One of those books that leaves you with a stupid smile on your face.

Come Home to Me (Whiskey Creek, #6) by Brenda Novak

message 5758: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Hopefully I'll start Compromising Willa in the next couple of days. It was recommended to me by someone who doesn't read romance...and she said she liked it so I'm intrigued.

Compromising Willa (Accidental Peers, #3) by Diana Quincy

message 5759: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Hehe...it definitely left a cheesy smile on my face.

I've only read one book by Brenda Novak and I didn't love it. It was Whiskey Creek #1. Ian, does the series improve as it goes on?

I guess it does get a little better...but if you didn't like book 1 you probably won't like the books that come after.

Do you ever read Romantic Suspense? The book that started me with Brenda Novak was Inside which was a nail biter.

Inside (Bulletproof, #1) by Brenda Novak

message 5761: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I do read RS sometimes but not often. Inside does sound good...I'm intrigued. Thanks. I'm adding it to my list!

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I'm on a downward spiral as far as reading goes lately. I am so over the whole plot where the man treats the woman he loves like crap, but it ends up being 'justified' by some horrific thing that happened in his past, or he is pushing her away for her own safety. I need a book where the man is open about the woman he loves from the get-go!

message 5763: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Barely made it through Guns in Avalon. I can go no further with this series. Which is fine because there are tons of new releases this month.

Love Like the Movies by Victoria Van Tiem Lingerie Wars (Invertary, #1) by Janet Elizabeth Henderson

Lingerie Wars has a bit of the battle of the sexes thing going on...two competing lingerie shops...one run by a model who suffered some scarring after a car crash....the other run by a former Royal Marine Commando who loaned money to his sister to buy the business but then stepped in and took over.

Is it a ghost story? An element in the set-up reminds me of Nicole Kidman's movie "The Others."

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Anna I loved and hated The Others -- hated it, b/c it was so heartbreaking and scary! I did think of that movie when I started reading it, but this isn't a ghost story it is just imagining a different path in history.

Oh Ian, I haven't heard of that book but it looks interesting!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Hmmm, that sounds interesting Regina... is it YA?

message 5772: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments It is from the point of view of a 10/11 year old girl who has gone back to the coast to make sure her mom is okay. She gets there and the town is evacuated, her house is empty. She hides in her house and then a nazi solider enters her house -- and we begin to see his memories of pre-war with his girlfriend in Germany.

The Orphanage has the same atmosphere as The Others. Very good movie, but heartbreaking too.

Speaking of virtual TBR piles, Mistborn: The Final Empire is a book I'd like to tackle. Persuasion is on my reading Bucket List, along with a few other books. Kay and I had agreed to a BR, but we've yet to choose a recent Suzanne Enoch.

Wow! I'm throwing a lot of books at you! Hmmm, anyone up for a BR in April. My book consumption is at a low so there's no rush.

I read a review that someone linked in another thread that kind of spoiled it for me - so i'm just pushing through now...ugh! I KNEW I shouldn't have clicked on the link

that being said, I just finished Beach Plum Island - ARC from the author and it hit all my warm and fuzzy spots without being too angsty

I think a book version of something similar to The Others would be interesting.

You know I'd be down for Mistborn if you want to at some point.

Would April work for Mistborn: The Final Empire? I'll research ghost thrillers too. The last one I remember reading was Ghost Story. There's probably better thrillers available since that book. lol

Kay,
The Last Hour of Gann is the one of best books I've read in a long time. (Great re-read too!) It was a BR with reader friends of different tastes. We all loved it! Try it. [note: The story has a few rape scenes. They are not gratuitous.]

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Nice. If you can find a cool ghost book to read, that would be fun. April works for me. I should let you pick the date, since I kept changing us for Gone Girl.

I haven't been reading much this past week (other than a few short stories). Been hopped up on alcohol and pain meds, so my concentration is shot.

But I did start Unsticky by Sarra Manning (it's been kind of cute but I think this book might be my final confirmation that chick lit and I do not mix well)
and Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin

Well...I guess if you're going to move up from short stories, there is nothing ambiguous about that book. Have to say the whole FSoG (super rich guy / poor girl) thing annoys me a bit. I think I'd even prefer yet another romantic suspense where the hero is a SEAL and you know how much that bugs me.

You'll have to tell us if his penis is as long as the book.

message 5788: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments LOL Ian!!!! I share the same irritation.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I'd had that book recommended to me by several people, so I figured it was worth a shot when looking to clean some books off my reader in order to make space on my home page.

I'm tired of super rich male heroes in general and have complained about that many times. I'm still waiting for someone to write me a hot construction worker. But this story is supposed to be a take on the movie Pretty Woman and I thought that movie was cute, so I'm trying to withhold too much judgement and give it a shot.

message 5790: by Kay (last edited Mar 18, 2014 02:48PM) (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Awww ..Stacia, I'm sorry you're not liking it. I love chick lit so I loved Unsticky which was published pre-FSoG and before all the rich guy/poor girl storylines started to saturate the market. If you enjoy the author's writing style, you might want to try her YA Adorkable by Sarra Manning instead.

I generally hate that, too, but I have to admit that the Crossfire series got me. I loved it. Occasionally I give that plot line a try in case it pans out for me. It never does.
