"Yeah, thanks. If you'll give it to Mat he'll give it to me" She sighed a bit

"I'd rather give it to you personally." He didn't trust Mat
"Well I won't be at school for a while. You can come over if you want but Mat might be over again"
"alright. Wait, why aren't you going to school?"
"I don't feel like it, ok?" Maria sighed, looking out her window
"okay okay. I can come over now if you want to give you the comic book."
"If you want too, my mom just went out so I'm free"
He smiled to himself "great, I'll be over in ten. See you then." With that he hung up and got up, grabbing the comic book and rushing out the door
Maria cursed at herself and flopped back on her bed "why did I do that..."
Five minutes later her doorbell rang.
Maria hesitantly pulled herself off the bed and went to answer the door
She was taking too long so he continually rang the doorbell.
She opened the door, glaring at him "you're pathetic"
He smiled "more is that anyway to talk to someone who got you, this?" He held up the comic book. He bowed and handed it to her "for you, m'lady!" He grinned crookedly.
She rolled her eyes and took it before closing the door in his face. "Thanks" She called from the other side of the door and made her way upstairs
He was already laying on her bed, playing with her ipod. He smirked at her "you're welcome. Oh, and you left your window open."
Maria let out a frustrated sigh "Leave my stuff alone!"
He set it down "you could say please you know..." He smiled "go on, read your comic book."
She rolled her eyes again and sat in her desk chair "I didn't take your 'dad' as the comic book type"
"well... It may or may not be mine..." He shrugged.
"That I beleive. Stalkers do take up the hobbies of whom they're stalking" Maria atated
"hey, i didn't even know you liked comic books!" He huffed.
"I took you to a comic book shop and I was reading a comic when you barged in while Mat was over" she stated
"i already had comic books. Besides, how would i get an extremely rare comic book in less than a day?" He raised an eyebrow.
"It isn't extreamly rare, I can just never find it. Spawn isn't a very popular comic" Maria stated, matter-of-factly
He sighed "why can't you just say thanks?"
"Because you're you" she smirked a bit
He pouted. "not fair." He muttered.
"Your face will stick like that" She noted, without looking at him
"at least it will forever be adorable." He grinned.
"No it won't, It will be the exact opposite of your 'father's'" She muttered, frowning herself at the thought
"which is still adorable" he grumbled. "anyway, i really didn't expect you to call me..." He said seriously.
"Neither did I. I don't know why I did..." She muttered, glancing down at the comic. She ended up throwing it on her desk and getting up from where she was sitting. She glanced at her clock, frowning slightly at it, "Mat will be here in a few minutes."
Luke frowned "that prick? I don't think he likes me." He says half jokingly. "he's your best friend, right?" He asked. For some reason he really didn't like Mat. Maybe it had something to do with his crush on Maria.
"He doesn't like you either. He was my only friend for a long time, the only person I could stand to be around. I'm trying to get away from him though..." She signed absentmindedly. She grabbed her TV remote and turned on her small Tv. The news was on, the reporter talking about the recent robberies that Luke and Joker had committed.
"if he's that important, why are you trying to get away from him?" He inquired. Then he heard some of the news and sighed "they never say that i try to keep the joker from hurting purple, huh?" He muttered.
The news reporter closed the report on the robberies and started the next story, "In other news, congress has just passed the "heroact", a new law that requires anyone with superhuman abilities to register under their superhero identities. According to the law, those registered may be called for military duty or be relocated to places in need of superheros. Anyone violating this act is subject to 5 years in jail and a seven thousand dollar fine."Maria rubbed her eyes, sighing deeply. "That's why. I'm planning on leaving."
"you're fucking kidding me right? That's total bull!" He growled. "that's one of the reasons I'm not a stupid hero. I'm not some weapon to be used for... Wait, what?" He stopped when she said that. "leaving? Leaving to where?"
"Anywhere ManHunter can't find me. He'll make me register and then my parents will know about me, and so will everyone else." She turned away from him as the doorbell rung. "That's probably him" she got up to go answer the door.
"oh..." Luke stood and followed her to the die "could i come with?" He suddenly asked. "i'm getting sick of Joker's sit..."
Maria bit her lip. She really didn't want anyone to come with her, but she didn't have a reason for Luke not to come. She opened the door, greeting Mat and letting him in."Ugh, why is he here" Mat groaned
"No reason, he's just being a stalker" Maria replied
"You should call the cops on him"
"hey, I'm not stalking you. I brought that comic boom you wanted and you allowed me to stay." Like protested, glaring at Mat. "why is he here?"he asked.
"Because I'm actually her friend!" Mat retorted, sharing Luke's expression of hatredMaria rolled her eyes and sighed, "shut up, both of you. You're giving me a headache." She runned her temples, mostly for show. She kicked the door closed and headed back up to her room, with Mat following closely behind.
Luke passed Mat and walked beside Maria. "so its okay right?" He murmured, as if trying to keep Mat out of the conversation. "i mean, you haven't said no yet. And you need someone to help you along the way."
"Who said I needed help?" She glared at him slightly"What're you guys talking about?" Mat asked, trying to get between Luke and Maria.
Maria opened the door to her room, the tv was still on and the news dragged on. "Just about hard mission on C.O.D." She replied, knowing that Mat hated Call of Duty. She bit her lip as she sat back down at her desk, nonchalantly flipping through the Spawn issue Luke had given her. She lied all the time, even to her parents sometimes, but why did she feel so guilty about lying to Mat?
"Oh, you finally found 27?" Mat looked over her shoulder
"Yeah, Luke gave it to me" She answered, her mind seeming to be else were
Mat turned to Luke "No wonder she let you stay, she's been looking for that issue for almost a year"
"and i happily gave it to her. Its not like i needed to keep it anyway." He shrugged "and i never said you needed help, its just better to have backup." Luke said to Maria. "anyway, you're sure you want to?" He was talking cruelly so Mat wouldn't understand.
"First of all, stop sounding like we're about to commit a crime, and second, yes, I'm sure" Maria ran a hand through her hair, knocking it all in her face"You sure are taking this seriously for a Video game. What are you two really up to?" Mat asked, glaring daggers at Luke
Luke just smiled at Mat. "why, whatever do you mean?" He rolled his eyes and looked at Maria "and now it pretty much is a crime." He muttered.
"Ok, you guys definitely aren't talking about COD. What's going on?" Mat looked toward Maria, who had her back toward himMaria sighed in defeat "it's about the new registration law, I'm not goingto rregister so I need to hide from ManHunter"
"Why aren't you going to register? You're a hero, aren't you?"
