"What if I quit 'my job'?" She challenged
He raised an eyebrow "and why would you do that? I thought you liked kicking my ass." He smirked.
"oh please. When was the last time I even laid a hand on you? You would always wisp away to safety before I even got close to you"
"actually, i always did that so i wouldn't hurt you."
"Yeah, just like when you threw me on that glass" She muttered
"that was an accident! i already apologized for that. I hadn't meant to hurt you, merely daze you."
"You don't know how many lectures I got From Manhunter after each encounter with you and your 'dad'" She sighed, trying to walk away
He followed "I'm sorry for the trouble."
"Not like anythings gonna change"
"true. But i still have no intention of 'bonding' today." He assured her
"Won't he be mad?" She questioned
"yeah, but he'll get over it." He shrugged.
She nodded and went back to looking at comic books
He turned his phone off and put it back in his pocket.
"SO why'd you become his sidekick?"
"because he saved my life." He shrugged.
"Really? He saved you? From what?" She asked
"dying on the streets alone." He muttered.
"oh, another villain with a tragic back story" She muttered
"both parents and my little sister dead, i on the brink of death myself, and only seven." He glanced at her sharply. "yes, a real fucking joke, huh?" He got off the wall and headed towardsthe other comics.
She glared at the ground 'Why the hell did I say that...'
He looked at the other comics, his back to her.
Maria sighed and went over by Mat
He glanced at Mat. He really didn't like that geek.
Mat snuck his arm around Maria's shoulders
Luke hid a scowl that he could feel building up. He quietly walked over to them.
Maria sighed as she watched the guys play
He grabbed her elbow gently and tugged her away from the boys. "hey... Sorry i got pissy a second ago... Its just... Its a touchy subject."
Mat glared at him and one of the guys laughedMaria looked at him "It's my fault for saying that"
He shook his head "no, you're right. I shouldn't have bothered you with my sob story." He shrugged. "i should go and get that comic book for you." He murmured "I'll see you tomorrow at school. Okay?"
She sighed "yeah, ok" she looked back at Mat
He nodded. "but... Do you have a cell phone?"
"No, I don't need one" she stated
"oh... Well if you ever need anything and I'm not following you around like a lost puppy." He got a piece of paper and a pen. He wrote down his phone number and gave it to her. "call me." He smiled then left, going home.
She put his number in her pocket and went over back to Mat
Luke went home. Once he was inside he was instantly heading for his bedroom.

((Yeah, sure))Maria sighed as she dialed Luke's number on her home phone. She walked around her room awkwardly as she waited for him to pick up
He answered "hellooo? Luke speaking."
"Um,hey Luke... It's Maria" She sighed, feeling like an idiot
He sat up "really?!" He grinned "i thought you would have burned my number." He cleared his throat "i mean, what can i help you with?"
"Um, I was wondering... about the work in Mrs. Johnsons class, what was it?" She asked, making up an excuse for calling
"Hm, i think it was to draw -blah blah, homework stuff-. Does that help?" He asked.

"Um, thanks..." She muttered, starting to mess with her shadow
He raised an eyebrow "is there something else you wanted to talk about?"
"No.... do you wanna talk about anything?" She asked
"I'll bring you the comic book tomorrow." He said cheerfully. "is that good for you?"
