Jennifer Maloney (desertrose0601) I read this series in the early 90's when I was in middle school. I would assume the books were written right around then - possibly late 80's. Each book in the series was one school year in the life of the girl. If I remember right, the first book was her 6th or 7th grade year, and it went on through to her 12th grade year in the last book. Oh and it was set in modern times, no fantasy or sci-fi elements. I believe it was set in NYC, or some big metropolis like that. There was also a love interest, but I can't remember his name. I think it took a few books for him to even notice her.

I can't remember much else about the series, but I remember really loving it and have been searching for the name of it for awhile now so I can read the series again!

The Alice series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor? I can't recall if she lived in NY, though.

Jennifer Maloney (desertrose0601) Hmm. No I don't think it was the Alice series. That doesn't look familiar to me.

LauraW (lauralynnwalsh) | 370 comments There is Anastasia Krupnik, but I don't think it was a year by year series. Anastasia Krupnik (Anastasia Krupnik, #1) by Lois Lowry

Anastasia Krupnik would have been my next guess, too. I'm pretty sure she's a city girl. And spunky!

LauraW (lauralynnwalsh) | 370 comments I really liked Anastasia. The books read very young compared to today's standards, but I like that. I am often taken aback at the negative themes in current YA books.

Jennifer Maloney (desertrose0601) Ooh! I think that's it! 2 Young 2 Go 4 Boys! That looks very familiar. Thank you so much!!! :)
