Amie (alm0824) | 125 comments I finished up Lover Awakened Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward by J.R. Ward on Sunday. I couldn't put it down, I had a busy weekend, but I pretty much carried the book everywhere with me and picked it up whenever I had a free minute. I'm now reading Undeniably Yours Undeniably Yours (Kowalski Family #2) by Shannon Stacey by Shannon Stacey.

I know, J. But WHEN??? I never dreamed I would have the problem of having too many books to read!
And, today, I haven't been able to read at all..pinched nerve in my back. I'm having to lie flat on my back on an ice pack. I held my Kindle up as long as I could, but my arms just get so tired of that. I shouldn't be sitting at this computer right now. Sitting for long periods is what aggravated it...sitting on GR's, blogging, writing, reading...you get the picture. Dr. says No sitting..how in the world do you do that??!!

message 256: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. I use an iPad and a friend got me a pillow to hold it while I read. It helps a lot.

Sending you all kinds of wishes for getting better.

(Re, When?...I should talk:))

message 257: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
I can read on my laptop a bit propped up, but when this nerve acts up, Dr. says flat on my back to align things & take the pressure off the nerve. I never realized how hard it would be to read like that. I used to have this issue a lot when I was an Admin. Asst. and sat at work most of the day. I've just been at the computer working too much lately. I know I have to take walk breaks, etc., but get busy & don't.

Seriously, I've wanted to read Ward for a long time...just haven't picked it up yet. I have it on Kindle.

Do you listen to audiobooks at all? Now would be a great time.

message 259: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
Great idea...why didn't I think of that?? I don't like hearing the In Death series as I said in another thread earlier...just don't like hearing that voice...but maybe a new book I haven't already read! Thanks for that suggestion, J.

Don't forget, the NC digital library has a RICH inventory of audiobooks. Enjoy and listen contently.

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Yikes, pinched nerves are the worst! I had one in my neck once. Couldn't turn my head for days and it was painful! Hope it gets better for you soon Sandra. We love our books, but gotta take of ourselves first so we can read those books.

I also need to read Ward's BDB series.

Thanks Y'all. I appreciate the well wishes. I'm doing everything I can to get it better. We were planning a weekend trip to the mtns. but I can't stand the sitting & riding when my back is like this so I've got to get it better!

Quynh - maybe we can BR a Ward book sometime soon!

Meantime, I'm once again enjoying Immortal reading as long as I can hold my arms up! lol

I'm sorry you didn't get to take your trip to the mtns, but I understand - I get pinched nerves in my neck and midthoracic area frequently. Someone mentioned the pillow, and I know that there's one shaped like a pyramid that has a ledge that holds your Kindle up at a good angle for you to read. Found one on Amazon by Hog Wild, called Hog Wild Peeramid Bookrest for $22.04.... others are available, up to $38, your choice of colors... check those out - I think they would work for you if you sat it on your belly...

Now moving on to Summer At Willow Lake Summer At Willow Lake (Lakeshore Chronicles, #1) by Susan Wiggs by Susan Wiggs.

Thanks for the info on the lap pillows for reading, Donna. I'm going to look on Amazon now! My back is better but so touchy, I am constantly reminded that I have to take care of it.

So it's September - where did summer go?? What's on your "must read" list between now and year's end? Robb's new ones are a given but you can list them anyway...but then, what else? Do you have another must read before year's end?

I finished listening to Wedding Night by Sophie Kinsella, a bit of a disappointment.

I'm now reading Midnight Lies by Ella Grace and loving it!

Maggie | 1576 comments I am almost done with Delusion in Death, then on to Calculated and will have re-read entire series. I had been my goal to re-read the books back to back but couldn't do it. As much as I love the series I got about 8-9 bks in and the cases and characters started to get mixed up so I took a break. Have been reading 3, then reading something else. TheTBR pile on my tv stand is 11 high, after Calculated have to start on it, of course will take a break for Thankless. Only other book I really want to read before yrs end is the last Sookie Stackhouse. Very glad it's the last one, haven't enjoyed the last 3 but want to "see" how it all wraps up.

message 275: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I just finished Dark Lycan (Dark, #24) by Christine Feehan Dark Lycan by Christine Feehan. I loved the book except it ended on a cliff hanger.

message 276: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
I'm not a fan of cliffhangers these days. If I know going into the book, I can handle it, though. Thanks for the warning.

message 277: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments This is why I love reviews that warn you about cliffhanger endings. I wait until the next book comes out or series end before starting it.

message 279: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
Really good rule, Quynh. I hate to be left hanging...I need some kind of HEA. There can be some unanswered threads but the main characters must be smiling at the end! I'm waiting for Nora & Robb's books, of course. Also waiting for the next book in Kristen Callihan's Darkest London series. Hmmmm...I know there are some more but just not remembering them right now.

message 280: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I wish I was like that Quynh. I just usually go to the library or book store and see a book I want then pick it up.

message 281: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments I used to be like that Dee, but then I find myself all worked up and frustrated not knowing what happens right away or to be able to dive into the next book. Now Robb/NR would be an exception. 6 months is a long stretch to wait for a new In Death book. I don't think I could wait a year in between if the two books had cliffhanger connections.

message 282: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
Especially the kind of cliffhangers that some author's are doing now. Where the story just builds and builds and then WHAM! You have turned the last page and stepped off the cliff. That makes me crazy! An author can give you an ending that you can live with while you wait for the next book. Some really good authors do that...still lots of unsolved issues but an okay ending.

message 283: by Jonetta (last edited Sep 14, 2013 09:47AM) (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
I hate that, Starshine!!! There are authors out there now that are taking the time to write the follow up book before they release the first one so we don't have to wait so long (maybe two or three months). I appreciate that because I would have been so frustrated waiting on the Fever series books if I'd read them at the time of release. Fortunately the whole series was complete by the time I read them.

message 284: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Well, in my case, I will usually forget by the time the next book comes out if they make me wait a long time, this series being the exception.

message 285: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
Exactly! It really shows you how the book world has changed though...that we need to look ahead and make sure we have all the series before reading one of them. Used to be - that would never have ever been an issue.

message 286: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Yes, especially with those that do not give you closure...I have started not buying those books if I know in advance.

message 287: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments I think the book world is evolving around series these days. You rarely see a standalone anymore. Maybe once a year release from an author and the rest are series related. I love series but it's getting A LOT harder to keep up with everything.

message 288: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15063 comments Mod
So true.

message 289: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
It is getting harder plus it makes it impossible to ever "catch up". I love series too but now - when I choose a book - it usually means that I'm choosing at least 3 books because if you read the first one and love it, then you just have to read the rest of them.

message 290: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Exactly Sandra. I don't think I have ever dropped a series based on the first book or even the second one. So now it's just a snowball effect lol.

message 291: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments And Kindle freebies are almost always a series...good way to suck me into buying the rest of them lol.

message 292: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 1576 comments Wish there were more stand alone books. As much as I love reading a series and getting to really know the characters, I don't feel like I have time to start reading Anymore of them. And I hate when I start reading a series and I'm getting the books from the library and they don't have one of the books. I go out it, then I have 1 odd book sitting on my shelf. For a person with OCD tendencies that idd book is very frustrating! Lol

message 293: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
I hear you Maggie...it is frustrating. A good standalone book now and then would be great.

Has anyone read Consequences, Truth, and a 3rd book coming in Oct.?? Consequences (Consequences, #1) by Aleatha Romig Truth (Consequences, #2) by Aleatha Romig I've heard so much about them..friends say I'll love them but hate them but can't put them down. That makes me think of Reisz's series The Sinners. I guess I'm going to jump in and read them as soon as I can work them in. *as I am knocking my head against the wall*!!

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
This is why my tbr list never goes down...I learn about books and want to read them now so I put them at the top of the list. I know from reviews that this series will probably drive me crazy but I really like stretching my boundaries a bit with books now...much more than ever before. I like something that is different and can make me mad, glad, sad, keep me awake and make me say OMG! Wow! I'm starting it as soon as I possibly can.

message 297: by Ruth (last edited Sep 18, 2013 08:37AM) (new)

Ruth | 12 comments I'm getting ready to read the new Catherine Coulter FBI thriller Bombshell. Most of this series can be read as stand alone stories with certain characters that pop up in each book but it isn't necessary to ready them all to know what is going on.

message 298: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Well, while I'm waiting for Thankless, I decided to start Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter. There's a lot of mixed reviews for it, but so far, I really like her writing and Ali's 1st person POV. this is also my first Gena Showalter book.

message 299: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11216 comments Mod
Oh yea, Quynh. I've been wanting to start some of her books and have read about that one. I can't start it yet but definitely on my list.

message 300: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments It's been on my list for a while, figured its still early in the series to read since the next one comes out next month I think. I want to read her other series Lord of the Underworld as well.
