SOLVED. A book about a Wizard of Oz (i think) play in high school? probably YA [s]

Ok so it's about this guy (who's gay, but isn't open about it), and he's in high school. He has a best friend named Sam, who wears a unicorn necklace as a symbol of her virginity. In the middle of the book (or somewhere near it), a girl eats something she's allergic to, and so the main character (I can't remember his name), gets an epipen and helps her. And I think everybody's competing for the role of Dorothy in the school's play of the wizard of oz. I read it a couple of years ago, and I know it was probably written somewhere from 2005-2012 (probably 2008 or something). I think the cover had some red on it, and the book was in English, and took place in America. Thanks!

Could be Show, Don't Tell by Paul Ruditis. It came up when I searched for "Unicorn Necklace" in Amazon. :) And there's a character named Sam.
