~Melissa~ Thanks!

Jane | 705 comments I have a new problem.

I have just finished Chocolate Shoes And Wedding Blues
It is the only Kindle version and it has the right published date but it is basically all the information it has. It is missing page numbers and even a picture and asin.

link: this is my amazon.co.uk edition
according to Amazon the page count is 419.

message 303: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments Missing page number for:

currently reading: Alice in Zombieland by Nickolas Cook Amazon says 230 pages

message 304: by md (new)

md | 83 comments For books 160 pages, is that with a word count or is that just for books that have pictures?

message 305: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Jane,

Chocolate Shoes And Wedding Blues by Trisha Ashley = 419 pages

BTW, for

Alice in Zombieland by Nickolas Cook = 230 pages - but the paperback has 256. I'm not going to put in that date, as it will do us no good when Amazon takes over. I'm sure they'll run a program that coverts to their data. If you need the higher page count in a contest, just refer the to this post, as the paperback is listed as 240. **shrugs**

I'm not 100% sure I understand your question, md.

message 307: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments We do check "word count" on juvenile - or "chapter" books that have a little picture at the beginning of each chapter.

We will try and check any book you feel qualifies for 160 by word count, regardless of what is listed. We just may not change it in the GRs database.

message 309: by md (last edited Jun 09, 2013 09:07AM) (new)

md | 83 comments that's what I was asking.

It was mostly prompted by the fact that I got Athena the Brain (Goddess Girls, #1) by Joan Holub out of the library for the challenge (behind enemy lines). I know Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was disallowed last round even though GR had it as 170 pages so I wondered if the children's/teen type books were subject to a word count as well as a page count. It was a mostly I'm not entirely sure type question.

Maybe my first question should have been is this an elligible book?

message 310: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments With "juvenile" or "chapter" books for younger audiences, we try - if at all possible - to find word count.

Since it is a classic, with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory we had a definite word count of 30,644 = 123 pages (rounded up).

With Athena the Brain we can only go by Amazon's page count and a "look inside" to view the size of the pictures.

We try our best, though it seems unfair at times.

Anyway...yes, Athena the Brain has been approved as "legitimate" for this challenge.

message 311: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments CORRECTION: We have found a source for Athena the Brain that has word count.

Could you PM me who has that book on their shelf, md, and I will have Countess Paige ask them to remove it.

Sorry for the confusion.

message 312: by Lisa Kay (last edited Jun 09, 2013 09:42AM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Athena the Brain (Goddess Girls, #1) by Joan Holub = word count = 18,735 = 75 pages (rounded up).

message 313: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Never mind, md. I've figured out which two people have the book on their TT shelves.

message 314: by Jane (last edited Jun 09, 2013 09:56AM) (new)

Jane | 705 comments I am one of the ones that had Athena on my bookshelf and used it for BEL. #1. Behind Enemy Lines - Cathy Galloway, Team B'dazzled Blue
I have removed it from my TT-mango-tango bookshelf.

I have also read Persephone the Phony (Goddess Girls #2) for the colour part of thechallenge but that might be even shorter. Will you find out Lisa Kay? If it is also too short I will remove it and ask Steven to remove them from our challenge

message 315: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Sorry, Jane. Yes, I'll check into it. Countess Paige has found a reliable source, though not approved by GRs, I'm sure.

Pertaining to "juvenile" and "chapter" books, we will have this spelled out more for Round III.

message 316: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Persephone the Phony (Goddess Girls, #2) by Joan Holub word count = 16,063 = 64 pages

message 317: by Jane (last edited Jun 09, 2013 10:04AM) (new)

Jane | 705 comments That is okay, I will remove this from my bookshelf right away.

I have now removed both books from my TT bookshelf

message 318: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Thanks, Jane. We appreciate it.

message 319: by Lisa Kay (last edited Jun 09, 2013 10:27AM) (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments FYI, regarding verifying word count, this does sometimes works in the person's favor, especially with "juvenile" and "chapter" books.

message 320: by CountessPaige (new)

CountessPaige de Quantity | 150 comments Thanks Jane!

message 321: by Jane (new)

Jane | 705 comments Not a problem. And as I try to have my books fit more than one challenge they still both count towards the other challenge I had them down for.

message 322: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments You never know. Your captain might use a "blinkie" cupcake on it. Then page count doesn't matter. ☺

message 323: by Jane (last edited Jun 09, 2013 11:01AM) (new)

Jane | 705 comments Nah, I got plenty of other books lined up. So no reason to use a "blinkie" cupcake :-)

Rhonda | 550 comments Hi, Lisa Kay..

There are 3 books on these shelves without page numbers. Can you help?

Thanks

I think this is the last one.

Jane | 705 comments There is 2 books (as far as I can see) on my shelf that are missing pagenumbers.
Will you look at it when you have time Lisa Kay?

There is also several pagenumbers missing on my first TT shelf but as we are way past that, I guess it doesn't matter.

Thank you LK

message 333: by md (new)

md | 83 comments sorry! I wasn't online. Now we've got that sorted out I'm realising that my bookshelf is going to be going down by quite a few books!

Thief! by Malorie Blackman Hacker by Malorie Blackman they both count under the page count rule but I can't find a word count for either of them to check.

Working on 40,000 words being 160 pages, I'm assuming Radiance (Riley Bloom, #1) by Alyson Noel Here's to You, Rachel Robinson by Judy Blume don't qualify
but Just as Long as We're Together by Judy Blume does?

message 334: by CountessPaige (new)

CountessPaige de Quantity | 150 comments Hi md - let me help you out.

Radiance (Riley Bloom, #1) by Alyson Noel is 35,451 words = 142 pages (rounded up) and will not work.

Here's to You, Rachel Robinson by Judy Blume is
39,102 words = 156 pages and will not work.

Just as Long as We're Together by Judy Blume is 52,102 words = 208 pages and will work.

I will need to do a little more research on the other two. Leave them on your shelf and I will get back to you.

message 336: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I need page numbers added to these on Brooke's shelf on Pewter Blue:

Casket For Sale Only Used Once by Jeff Strand

hardcover version shows 160 pages: Casket For Sale Only Used Once by Jeff Strand

and this one Single White Psychopath Seeks Same (Andrew Mayhem #2) by Jeff Strand this edition shows 168 pages: Single White Psychopath Seeks Same by Jeff Strand

Thanks!

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments md - I can't find word counts on them either, but Worldcat also has them at just a little less than GR
Thief! by Malorie Blackman 228 pgs and Hacker by Malorie Blackman 200 pgs

When I looked at the preview from the publisher, the pages did not have pictures, they were just full of words. Still up to the mods to rule on.

message 338: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) @Mary ~ I switched my editions, if that helps. I read everything on my Kindle, but don't care what edition it says on my shelves, so I can make sure they always say actual book pages, versus my Kindle, if that helps.

message 339: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Does this mean that books like the Chronicles of Narnia (such as this one: The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia, #3) by C.S. Lewis ) need checking for word count too?

message 340: by Marchioness of Magenta (last edited Jun 10, 2013 03:28AM) (new)

Marchioness of Magenta | 129 comments Hi LK! I need a check for The BFG by Roald Dahl . I found from a blog that the word count for this book is 36,928 which when divided by 250 gives it 147 pages. Is the calculation correct? (Btw, I couldn't find word count on worldcat or ingram. Is there any other website that I can check?) Thanks.

message 341: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments md, Countess Paige is still working on two of your books.

message 342: by Lisa Kay (new)

Yes. Usually the Narnia books pass, but this one looks like it separated from the rest. We will have to get back to you, Claire.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Marchioness of Magenta wrote: "The BFG by Roald Dahl."

37,568 is the word count = 150 pages --- is what I found on that one, MoM.

One of the websites we (TTRC Mods & Countess Paige) use for juvenile books is going to be Renaissance Learning. It is NOT an "official" site, according to GRs, so we will not be changing GRs data.

Ok. I'm not quite sure what you mean by separated but in that case, please can I get the rest of the series checked as well? I'm going to be reading them for a challenge over the next month or two. :)

message 348: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments LK, I was thinking of reading the Lemony Snicket books, but wanted to check that they would count before tagging them for this challenge - especially considering the current conversation. They work for page count, but I wasn't sure about word count...

message 349: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Claire, are all the book in one binding? If so, no problem at all, as we checked this in Round I.

message 350: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Guess I need to hear about that too, since I've read the first 6 Lemony Snicket books and counted them for this challenge and was planning on finishing the series soon.

They are all over 160 pages and don't have illustrations, so I just assumed they were fine...
