yep I agree, I didn't see her her as the cutesy type either, non-violent and determined, yes, but not adorable. The first time I read this part I thought they put her in a child's body (HOW CREEPY WOULD THAT BE? with Ian and all).

She was supposed to be blonde. She doesn't look like I expected her to look like that. But the movie was good. THERE IS SOOOOOO going to be another movie like the book.
I didn't like the new Wanda... she's supposed to be blonde and not threatening at all. That actress just didn't look like Wanda should.
I really liked her. She was so cute. :) Ian is so sexy along with Jared too
Stephenie said, since the started looking for the Twilight cast, that Emily Browning was his favorite to interpretate Bella, she said that she loved her lips, and she loved her performance as Violet Baudelaire in the movie A Series of Unfortunate Events. I thinks that that’s why they chose her now in the adaptation of her new book, because she really likes the actress, and sincerely, even that she’s not blond, I thinks she do looks harmless like Wanda is.
I liked her- I thought it was a really good, deliberate contrast. Almost as if Stephanie Meyer was saying "Look, here is this tough, selfless girl/alien in the body of a weak, beautiful human! Could the differences get any bigger?! Wanda will just have to prove she is who she is, regardless of her body."So yeah, I liked her. Can't wait for book 2; I just hope it doesn't ruin it. I loved The Host so much.
Was surprised but after a little while the actress did a good job in making believe it was the same Wanda that was trapped the whole movie. Didn't really like her but it was ok.
i think they choose the wright person to be Wanda
i didn't think that she was the right choice either. i had this visual in my mind of what she was supposed to look like - i remember the idea in the book that yes she looked young but it wasn't like this girl. that's not to say that the actress wasn't pretty - it just wasn't the wanda that i was expecting.
Wasn't she supposed to be blonde....??/
HATED THE WANDA THEY CHOSE. Not cool at all. The whole movie was honestly very disappointing. Any one agree or disagree?
Didn't like the actresses who played Melanie or the Wanda at the end, Melanie's voice in her head was so annoying and whiny! Saoirse's American accent wasn't great either :\
Leni wrote: "HATED THE WANDA THEY CHOSE. Not cool at all. The whole movie was honestly very disappointing. Any one agree or disagree?"Yeah the whole thing was dissapointing, nothing exciting happened!
Thank you. All the non-fans of the book think it was amazing. Even if I wasn't a fan (which I am) I wouldn't think it was good because the plot was shaky and the cast wasn't great. I'm glad to see someone agrees with me.
At first, I didn't like the new Wanda. She was totally different from the book. But as is went on, I started to like her. The movie played on the "sister" part between Mel and Wanda and the actress did look a little like she could be Melanie's sister. I liked it.
She doesn't look like they described her in the book, but I didn't mind. I think she looks innocent? (can't think of the right word) like Wanda would have, and she just felt right for the character. I also read that they took a lot of time choosing her, so they can't have gone completely wrong with her. (They did a great job casting everyone else.)
I didn't really like the new Wanda. I mean, besides the fact that when I think "Wanda" I have a lot of trouble picturing her as anyone but Melanie/Saoirse.
I think she was weird looking but I think that's the point. The fact that they can accept her for who she is, even if they don't see Mel while talking to her.
i read the book last year, and i absolutly loved it and i also loved the movie, yeah there are details that are different but the story was still presented really well and i love emily browning as the new wanda, i think her face is alot like i imagined her, and i think she was a good choice
I like the actresses choose for both wanda and Mel. yeah so she was to be blonde. so what. her face is perfect.
I liked who they picked for Mel, but what the * happened with Pet? she is supposed to be a pretty, petit, blonde! This girl looked like a mutant! she had huge puffy cheeks and looked horrible. When the mirror descended and I saw her, I was appalled.
I wanted her blond!!!!!! I can say Emily Browning Is pretty but she is NOT wanda at all!!!! I don't know who would be a good pet/wanda but definitely not her111
I think it will be weird seeing a different Wanda in the next movie (if there is one), because i got used to seeing Saoirse Ronan as Wanda/Melanie
I also disliked the choice for Wanda. I wanted her appearance to be a direct contrast of Melanie's. Of course, I'm glad the went with an older choice than in the book. But overall, it was my least favorite part of the movie.
Yeah, I wasn't too happy that she wasn't blonde either. Overall I liked the cast in the movie. I think it was a job well done. The new Wanda is okay though. At least she's really petite. And, at the end when she was playing Wanda, I didn't have any trouble believing it was Wanda. The fact that I didn't have a problem with that switch makes me happy.
I don't exactly agree with Emily browning because she doesn't fit Ian. I think molly Quinn would be best. Emily is adorable and they did something with her hair and face that makes it worse. Molly fits the description. I wish they hired her instead!
Why people keep bashing about Pet not being blond in the movie? I mean look at Ian, his hair is supposed to be in black color
Sam wrote: "Why people keep bashing about Pet not being blond in the movie? Because Mel is supposed to have dark brown hair and is supposed to be really tan, but she's not. And I love the actress they picked for Mel and she played her perfectly, so hair color and appearance doesn't really matter to me. But in this case it really is hard to see the drastic change, and I don't think she was the best at being Wanda at the end, her acting didn't wow me, but oh well.
I am a fan of the book, and I wasn't completely disappointed in the movie, but none of it was what I expected to see. The caves were too modern, lit, and "nice" compared to the image from the book. I would like to have seen more of how the relationships between Melanie and Jared & Wanda and Ian developed. Also, killing characters that didn't die in the book, and leaving poor Walter out was a sore spot for me. It showed how sympathetic and caring Wanda truly was. It would have been nice see more of that. Just my opinion... but I would have rather the movie been divided into 2 parts and given more realistic closeness to whats in the book, than to change so much to compact it into what was on the big screen. Again, Just my opinion.

So the first movie would be really weird to me. I would have loved to see that scene where Jared kissed Wanda goodbye and called out her name instead of Mel's because I wanted Wanda and Jared to be together so that scene really touched me. Hopefully in the sequel things will be more accurate.
NOT AT ALL! I was like wtf is that goddammed girl?! I kept screaming BIG HEAD in the movie everytime she came on screen! And wtf with Ian! he was a skeleton instead of muscular! A whole lot of disappointment!
She goes along with what is 1/2 described as being. The new Wanda is Babydoll in the movie "SUCKER PUNCH" aka the new blond girl.
Nah, I was surprised by how she looked, and I had imagined her a lot prettier and blond (no offense to the actress), I just thought she looked creepy in the movie. But she's ok though, it could've been worse!
I didn't like it, it's not because of the actress but because she was meant to be blonde, I wouldn't be annoyed if they had changed her hair color, I was really annoyed because they change the physical characteristics of more than two character: Melanie (in the book her skin was tan or caramel), the seeker(in the book she was dark short hair, low height) wanda(well I know most of you already know...BLONDE) and last but not leas my dear Ian(in the book he has DARK HAIR and curls). I'm not saying the actors were bad... but I really didn't like the changes.
Ariana wrote: "I didn't like it, it's not because of the actress but because she was meant to be blonde, I wouldn't be annoyed if they had changed her hair color, I was really annoyed because they change the phys..."That's true they did change a lot of them. But I kind of like the way they all turned out looking (except the new wanda) but Melanie and the seeker I was happy with, and the guy who plays Ian is one of my favorite actors, but originally during casting they should have stayed more true to the book.
Jordan wrote: "Ariana wrote: "I didn't like it, it's not because of the actress but because she was meant to be blonde, I wouldn't be annoyed if they had changed her hair color, I was really annoyed because they ..."I totally agree in that. Melanie was fine, the only thing that change was her skin color and I really like how the actress that represent the seeker well... act in the movie. But I really think that they should've take more time thinking about the cast and some parts of the movie. I watch a video that was behind the scenes of the host and in one scene Jared (Max Irons) enter the dining room saying that Brandt & Aaron (or Andy) died because the Seeker killed the, that upset me a little bit because neither Brandt nor Aaron die. In the movie they show that Wanda/Mel was there when the seeker killed Wes and thats not true. I wish that the movie stay as close to the book as it should've been. Ps... Jake Abel is REALLY CUTE!
Agreed with most of the others.. I guess in a way it kinda sounds silly. But in the book i just expected her to be a small teeny blonde girl. It was just a shock to see someone totally different to what I imagined..
In the book, they described her as being very small and pale and petite. In the movie, she was too dark and her features were too strong. I think Wanda needs to be somewhere in the middle. I didn't like how in the book, she explained how everyone protected her and she had anxiety attacks. Wanda needs to be a bit stronger than how Pet was described, but Emily Browning is too dark and striking.
I expected her hair to be fairer, not pure blond but maybe strawberry blonde or even red, she looked too dark and strong whereas in the book she was really pale and her body was much weaker and no where near the strength of melanie stryder but they got the petite part right :)
Well I wasn't too happy with the actor that was chosen for Wanda at the end of the movie but it's not up to me is? (if it was i sooo wouldn't have picked her, she's not right)
Isn't at all how I pictured her and I think the book described her as having lighter hair, right? But, there's always a few flaws when translating book into movie, right?
I know we are talking about Wanda here, but I've just finished the book and remember reading a description of the SEEKER with black hair, and I've seen shorts for the movie and she has like, white blonde hair? Am I correct? Surely hair colour should be something pretty easy to stick to when creating a movie from a book.
Olivia wrote: "I didn't really like the new Wanda. I mean, besides the fact that when I think "Wanda" I have a lot of trouble picturing her as anyone but Melanie/Saoirse."Same here. I have a hard time separating Wanda from Melanie's body, even in the book I couldn't match the description of Pet with my image of Wanda. I think for me it would have been easier to put Melanie in a new body (and I know that's completely wrong) lol.
I also thought that while the other souls had a peculiar beauty about them with their strange eyes, it didn't work for Emily Browning. She looked creepy.
And as to the changes in appearance of the characters, I don't mind it that much. As long as they get the character right. I remember J.K. Rowling saying about Harry's blue eyes in the movie that she considers it more important that they match the eyes of the actress that is playing his mother than that they are green. Until then it had always bugged me, but then I realized that the actual colour wasn't as relevant as that Harry's got his mother's eyes. So, it doesn't bother me that Ian's blond. At least Kyle is it too.
i didn't like her at all. This girl had the look of a girl that was "up to something" in my opinion. I didn't get the "innocent sweetness" of pet...
Honestly, i was pretty disappointed. I get that she had to be tiny and all, but..no i was not satisfied. It wasnt what i had in mind for Wanda!!
