~Vee~ Unfortunately, i didn't like the "new" Wanda. The actress didn't suit her character at all. I was very disappointed when i saw her at the end of the film. I did not picture her turning out like that at all.

Saxonjus I haven't seen the movie so I cannot say Im disappointed re not being blonde! In the book I thougbt it was ironic another human body had to be used as a vessel for Wanda! The host of this human put in a tank for another life! I wish maybe they had found someone willing to have Wanda as a host.Maybe someone who was dying but their body would have been healed by Wanda! A rainbow face highlighted Wanda's various lives! So part of me felt sad for the Host & part of me wanting Wanda to have lived as herself!

message 103: by Aly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aly How would she live as herself if she hadn't gone it to another body?

Wortmagie I was also a little bit disappointed that Wanda was not blonde at the end of the movie, especially because it wouldn't have been any problem to make Emily Browning blonde. I remember her in "Sucker Punch", blonde really suits her.
I think she COULD have been a good choice. She is small and able to look somehow breakable. I don't understand why they didn't use this ability, making her look a little more... healthy and innocent. Blonde hair, red cheeks, big (silver) eyes, you know?

Saxonjus I felt that the host of Wanda should have had the choice of giving up their body & not by force.

message 106: by Kenya (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kenya S. No...just no... She was not working for the being Wanda part of life...

Nichola St. Anthony No. I thought it was a cop out although I enjoyed the book overall.

message 108: by Emma (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emma i hate it when they change characters hair color in movies!!!! WANDA HAS BLONDE HAIR NOT BROWN, PEOPLES!!!!!!

message 109: by Maddie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Maddie Meyer I know right?!!

Nichola St. Anthony I don't like the way she looks at the end of the movie. I pictured her looking more fragile and ethereal and possibly a red head.

message 111: by Jenifer1223 (new)

Jenifer1223 I've just now started reading the book, so other than what you've all said...I have no idea what these people are suppose to look like. That being said, I did go see the movie when it came out because some friends had read the book and wanted to go.

As someone who still knows nothing about the contents of the book...I really did not like the actress playing Wanda at the end of the movie. I don't mean this rude..but it will totally come across that way..she looks TOO alien. I liked Wanda a lot, so I guess I was expecting better by the end of the movie when I realized they had put her in a new body.

I didn't mind Saoirse's performance as Wanda..but the fake southern accent was driving me nuts when it came to Melanie's voice. I think it would have been much better had she dispensed with the accent. The dialogue alone was enough to differentiate between Melanie and Wanda. As a southerner...I loath these overdone southern accents.

Back to reading the book now. I want to know what everyone is talking about. I'm told it is 10000000000 times better. As most books are.

I think they took the short Pet from the book waaaaaaaaaayyyy too literal. Nearly annoyed, but I think Emily Browning is fine, there's just something wrong, I guess.

Michelle NaKayla wrote: "She was supposed to be blonde. She doesn't look like I expected her to look like that. But the movie was good. THERE IS SOOOOOO going to be another movie like the book."
Elena Gilbert in "The Vampire Diaries" is blond as well but in the tv series she is a brunette so it works better as a brunette she is more exotic as a brunette less ditzy and more real. In the end of "The Host" Wanda is not credited in her new form, why? As for her looks I guess she works as a weaker sub.

message 114: by Matthew (new)

Matthew I find it fascinating how attached we are to our physical bodies and locks. I personally thought Emily Browning and Saoirse Ronan did a good job in the movie I thoroughly enjoyed it. The key is to look beyond the physical and see the true meaning of the story and and how they could play out in your life in some small way to connecting one human being to another and another and another. After all, when you see it from the subjective angle of vision you realize that we are all sentient beings.

Christiane Helmer altho the new wanda looked gentle and kind i didnt really like the new wanda.

message 116: by Matthew (new)

Matthew She did look gentle and kind but I suppose the look behind her eyes and good sense I reviewed from her acting was interesting to me. It appears she let some of her true self into the character.

message 117: by A (new) - rated it 5 stars

A I didnt like her at all! i know she´s a great actress and all, but she just was not meant to be Wanda. Like in all the movies made books, i imaigined the characters a little differently, but that is normal. But as for Wanda, she didn´t Emily didnt fit the role at all. I imagined smaller, very delicate. The seeker also dissapointed me a little.

message 118: by Matthew (new)

Matthew It is interesting how we imagine what we want characters to look like that we read about and when we communicate with people online and then meet them in person it is always not quite what we had imagine and then we get to know them and their looks change especially if they are really good people on the inside which I believe 90% of the human has goodness through and through. Anyway, yes they could have chosen a softer more delicate actor with another hair color and style as well.

message 119: by Malabica (new)

Malabica Das didnt watch the movie as the reviews were not good

.·:*¨ × Shannon♥Stelena&Bamon&Sydrian × ¨*: @Michelle, Elena isn't ditzy in the books.

@Malabica, the problem was they stripped the movie all the things that made the book so special and unique that it became very generic.

message 121: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Ageed. They too often do that. Unfortunately. Has anyone ever read "The Immortal" series by JJ Dewy? Interesting read as the author mixes fiction with fact and leaves it up to the reader to find the truth.

message 122: by Matthew (new)

Matthew They left a lot out of "The Hunger Games" too.

message 123: by Tiffani (new)

Tiffani I thought they totally missed the mark on Wanda. I pictured someone more like Amanda Seyfried for the new Wanda. Emily Browning is beautiful but no Wanda.

message 124: by Emily (new) - added it

Emily Fuller Bre wrote: "I really liked her. She was so cute. :) Ian is so sexy along with Jared too"

I agree!

message 125: by Kaarah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kaarah No, I don't like wanda at the end of he movie because I can't picture her like that in the book

message 126: by Khai (new) - rated it 4 stars

Khai oh yeah. i was thinking "what happened with wanda at the end?". i've forgotten about Emily! i wasn't expecting to see her there as well! She wasn't how i imagined Wanda would look like, at all. she just didn't fit the role, and the fact that she and max were together, it looked even weirder for me.

message 127: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Marie Wth is your guys problem with hair color it depends if the do what the directors wanted it's not Emily Brownings fault she was put in the movie but I think she did a fine job for last 10 minuets she was apost to do! And if you guys actually went to bonus features u can see Stephanie Myers was the one who picked the actors in the film so don't diss the hair colors the body types or whatever after all the cridics thought it was a good movie! I did too.

Saxonjus didn't enjoy the film really a let down after a great read. None of the characters for me came to life at all.

Silverwolf I ABSOLUTLY LOVE THE BOOK AND THE FILM (I LOVE THE BOOK MORE THOUGH) I thought that the new Wanda was a good character and they all got to live happily ever after :)

MaryAnn I'm totally fine with Wanda not having blonde hair, though it would be preferable because I find the whole dark hair/light hair boyfriend/girlfriend thing adorable (like she has blonde hair and Ian in the book has dark hair), but I was disappointed in the casting. I pictured an innocent, small, petite and fragile looking person with blonde hair and big eyes and I feel like Emily Browning just doesn't fit that description (don't get me wrong though, she's very pretty and a good actress, she just doesn't fit the description I imagined).
At the same time though, the actress they got for Melanie was spot on and exactly how I imagined her in the book

message 131: by Maddie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Maddie Meyer I completely agree!

Courtney No. I didn't like her mostly because she was so very different from what I imagined.

message 133: by Teena (new) - rated it 5 stars

Teena nope nope nope

message 134: by Luisa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Luisa Rumolo Honestly, I didn't like her so much at the end.. I pictured her differently in my mind and I admit that I preferred her in Melanie's body..But I also understand that they tried to show her like a small, innocent, sweet girl

message 135: by A.a (new) - rated it 5 stars

A.a For me, I was more surprised by her age than her appearance. In the book it describes her as terribly small. How everyone would pet her head and had to give her small chores because of her little size and strength. However, in the movie she's about the same as Melanie in both height and age. That's what really threw me, though, their choice for actor was also a bit of a shock as well.

Kirsteen Gordon I wanted to see a complete contrast between Melanie and Wanda when they did not share the same body at the end of the film. Melanie finally was physically strong again after Wanda left and Wanda now was physically weak although mentally strong. This should have been portrayed in height, weight, hair colour, age etc to show the huge differences between them hence I did not buy the new Wanda.

message 137: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't like the new Wanda. It disappointed me that the new Wanda looked like that, in fact I expected something completely diffrent and was disappointed with the outcome.

message 138: by Cadence (last edited Apr 17, 2015 01:04AM) (new)

Cadence Mckinnon I did not like the actress they chose to play Wanda at the end of the film; I thought she looked too much like the actress that played Melanie. I like that actress (Saoirse ((sp?)), but didn't feel she was right for the part. Always saw Melanie as being older; mid-late twenties, and a bit more militant. As for the actress that played Wanda...haven't seen her in anything else, so the jury is still out on her. Think the biggest disappointment was VO'ing Melanie's thoughts. Was hoping for something more creative that allowed us to see the relationship between Melanie & Wanda develop. Think this story would be an awesome television show because it could start at the very beginning of the invasion with the original spider-like aliens described in the book dropping in, and taking a human or two.... As it is, I'm hoping for another book.

Vanessa Black I didn't like the Wanda at the end because I guess I had a very specific image of her in my mind from having read the book. I also found it very hard at first to warm up to the actors who played Wanda/Melanie, Jared and Ian, but I ended up liking them in the end. I guess that at the very end of the movie when meeting the new Wanda, we didn't really get to spend enough time with the actress to be able to warm up to her. So, I didn't hate the choice they made but didn't get to really get used to her as the real Wanda.

message 140: by Shari (new)

Shari Tapscott Haidi wrote: "I know we are talking about Wanda here, but I've just finished the book and remember reading a description of the SEEKER with black hair, and I've seen shorts for the movie and she has like, white ..."

Yes, this bothered me more than Wanda.

Vanessa Black That's interesting, now that I thought about it, I couldn't have said which color hair the seeker has. It's been a while since I read The Host (for the second...or maybe third time?) and what I remember about the seeker is her attitude more than anything else...I guess in my mind it was more about her character than her looks, as apposed to Wanda's looks which I remembered distinctly because she's supposed to look so fragile and unlike Melanie.

message 142: by Eitak (new) - rated it 5 stars

Eitak Snave I love the actress, she's amazing, and she was good for the height I imagined, but she didn't look feminine enough. I imagined as explained with long wavy golden hair, gray eyes, and a very girly look. I wish they would've put more effort into her appearance.

message 143: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Tiffany wrote: "I like the actresses choose for both wanda and Mel. yeah so she was to be blonde. so what. her face is perfect."

SAME! I didnt watch the movie yet but I was researching about it to see the actors and WHAT I saw who they got for Wanda and I was big time dissapointed! god! I was expecting someone like Abigail Breslin or Hayden Panettiere! at least nicola peltz for gods sake

message 144: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Erin wrote: "that was NOT how she was described in the book. no. just no."

same :(

♥ℂĦℝΪՖƬΪℕÅ UGH!!! NO! Emily Browning did NOT fit the description of Wanda aka Pet what soever and it was a let down. Though if i'm being honest, the whole dang movie was a disappointment!!! *sadface

message 146: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Yes I agree there was still lots of important details that needed to be in the movie 😕
