Kim (kadykayf) Will you or have you read the full trilogy? What about the novellas?

If you have read them, discuss here. Please mark any spoilers.

Snapefan4Life | 6 comments I just finished reading Unearthly last month and I'm hoping to either win a copy of Hallowed or find the series at the library. I'm curious to know how it ends!

Shannon (sm1996) | 30 comments I have read the whole series except for the .5's I loved the depth of emotion in the novel and when the series finished I didn't get my usual feeling or annoyance I felt like that Cynthia Hand ended the story how it should of ended. I loved the idea of Tucker and Clara, the fact that it didn't just end in unearthly but it was kept alive through the entire series.

You should defiantly finish the series if your sitting there wondering if you should.

Robyn (robynd99) | 2 comments I have read the whole series too - i couldn't stop after i finished Unearthly :) The second and third books never drop off like some sequels do.. I was very happy with the series, especially since it was my first YA series about angels. Cynthia Hand is a great author, and i can't wait to read more of her books!

Do you think the sequels are better than the first?

Grace (gdaminato) | 520 comments I usually don't continue with series like this after reading the first book for this book club. (I usually read all the books in a series if it's an author whose work I like.)

I am curious, though, to know more about what happens next so I'll probably continue with the series - at least the next book.

Robyn (robynd99) | 2 comments I think they do get better. The story continues to grow and evolve and I think the reader will enjoy learning more about the characters. There are a few more surprises to come!!

Also.. I just saw in the Q&A that the author had to make the series 3 books instead of 4 so she had to re-write book 3. Anyone know why this is?

Oh wait.. I just read through the Q&A and she answered it:
"I ended up writing 3 books instead of 4 because Harper only bought 3, as at the time I was selling my books, they were buying trilogies, not 4 books at a time, and when I went to sell them the 4th book, they said that paranormal romance was on its way out and they would rather me work on something else. It sucked, but in the end I think it was for the best."

Paranormal Romance is on it's way out??? WHAT THE???? Who knew?

I can understand that statement. Take a look at the books we vote on each month. Isn't there a paranormal romance on almost every single list. It seemed to me that every other book I see is a paranormal romance. I was getting tired of it - and if other readers feel the same way they, too, will start to avoid paranormal romances. I think they've been overdone and some people are avoiding them now instead of being drawn to them.

That's not to say there won't be any more paranormal romances. There just won't be as many of them and, I fervently hope, there will be fewer of the hack type where an author is trying to take advantage of a hot trend. Maybe we'll see more single volume, well written stories that work on multiple levels - not the multi-volume, repetitive stories in which the biggest question is which romantic interest will the heroine choose.

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) I'm in the middle of Hallowed right now, and I must say Clara is growing on me. I'm pretty amused by the not-so-subtle Twilight jabs in there :)

Paranormal romances will definitely not go away entirely and certainly series will never go away especially since people (especially teens and children) love series and they're big business. However, paranormal series were probably overdone when Unearthly first came out (probably pitched in 2010). When Twilight was really big, publishers were more apt to purchase more titles that would pull in the same crowd, but by 2010 The Hunger Games (Mockingjay came out in 2010) and other dystopias were on the rise, so I can see why the publishers were hesitant for a 4th book of a less, popular genre. Although, now that I think of it, many dystopias are trilogies too - maybe the whole YA market is so flooded that only established authors get more than a trilogy.

Andrea | 4 comments I've read Hallowed and Unearthly, I really enjoyed them and I plan to read the novellas as well as Boundless.

*Layali* (layalireads) | 95 comments I just started Boundless the other day, and I'm about halfway through... The series gets so much better! I literally flew through Hallowed, and I can't wait to finish the final book. Glad we read this for the month. It gave me the kick I needed to pick up a really great series!
