That was first Agatha Christie's book I've read. And still my favorite one.
I thought it had something with ten in title?! Or something else?! Well, it has in translated version. ☺
*no wonder I couldn't find it*

It is also called Ten Little Indians. Sometimes I am not sure why the British English title and the American English titles have to be different.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments And Then There Were None is also called Ten Little Indians, and also Ten Little N*ggers, but both titles were phased out as social norms about the uses of those words changed.

I actually prefer the newest title, And Then There Were None, as it sounds more ominous. :)

So you could understand it ☺ It's completely different language. If you don't believe me, ask my high school English teacher. ☺ We were learning Oxford English from american published books. :P

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) Finished The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld, #6) by Gena Showalter & The Fault in Our Stars by John Green --this one was a really, really good book.

I am on to finish Capture & Surrender (Market Garden #5) by L.A. Witt & begin audio of Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin, #2) by R.L. LaFevers

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments I really liked The Fault in Our Stars too.

The story was written so well and the heroine said something that was so real: "My final chapter was written upon diagnosis. Gus, like most survivors, lived with uncertainty."

It made me so sad, but it was just reality of the situation...

I would like take this opportunity to add "I HATE CANCER"

I saw that in your status update and it got me going. Vision is little blurry.
I think I'll wait when I'm home alone for few day to read it.

Speaking of crying and books, what happened with Book Thief?

*grinning sheepishly*
For some reason, I kept getting lost and after starting over a second time, I decided to give it a pause. I didn't give it attention, and would find myself wondering what the heck was going on.

But you know what, I will add it to my October Starter plan. I will get focused and give that book it's due.

Don't have to because of me. I just asked because I know you started it and never saw you finish it.
There is going to be BR here if you want to join in. ☺
They are going to read it before movie comes out.
I'm already stocking on tissues for that one. Sadly, friend I'm going with is not movie-cryer. I have to work on another one. She's worse than me. But she didn't read the book. :(

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) ❀Tea❀ wrote: "Don't have to because of me. I just asked because I know you ..."

No, I was reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak because lots of people kept recommending it AND I want to be done before movie.
Competition question: Will we get an extra cupcake for the team if I join in the BR?

I haven't been able to write a review for The Fault in Our Stars by John Green because I don't have the words to do it justice. So I haven't been able to move it from my "currently reading" to "read".

Not being able to write a review makes me feel weak and pathetic. I mean, if Hazel Grace and Gus can face life with dignity, why can't I just write some words to say that? I need to find the words to say that I loved the characters but i can't find the words :(

If you join BR and do the questions (asking them, not answering ☺), you will get cupcake. But, since this BR was already done last year(?) I'm not sure how will this work since questions are already there.

Ezinwanyi~For you, Agron wrote: "So I haven't been able to move it from my "currently reading" to "read"."

That's OK. If you put finish date, it should show up in your tracker.
That's why I don't write reviews. ☺ I have no idea what to say. I do put few thoughts in notes to remind me about book.

The “Cutthroat Competitor Cupcake” is coming!

This is a cupcake that’s NOT fooling around.
Hard to conquer, but your BAPs will surely mound.

You thought the “Triple Threat” was hard to earn?
This one’s NOT vinegar; yet, neither is it sauterne.

This cupcake counts as ‘cuatro’ – which translates to four.
With a 350,000-word-endurance, these books are worth tons more.

This Captain will give you four BAPs to really increase your points.
After all that page turning, this isn’t one that disappoints.

Announcement:

With regards to “Cutthroat Competitor Cupcakes,” 350,000 words = 1,400 pages.

However, keep in mind that for some of the longer books they squeeze more words on per page. We go by word count first, when we can find it, then refer to WorldCat.

Sooooo... that is why sometimes you will see an 800 or 900 page book count as a “Cutthroat Competitor.”

Also, your Captain has a link to a list of approved books, to which we will continue to add. Thus far they are:
An American Tragedy
Atlas Shrugged)
A Breath of Snow and Ashes
The Civil War, Vol. 1: Fort Sumter to Perryville
The Count of Monte Cristo
A Dance With Dragons
The Fiery Cross
A Storm of Swords
It
Les Misérables
Sacajawea
Voyager
The Wise Man's Fear

SPOILER ALERT!!! :P

It's actually interesting book. Well at least part of it. ☺ I went quickly through first part until he escapes. Then there is that gap of 10(?) years (why? since everything else before was written in details!) and now I'm in Rome part where Count only gets more or less mentioned. I get it, this is part where he starts his revenge, but it would be more interesting (for me) to see it through his eyes, not some nobody & his friend (I get it that friend is Mercedes' son, but I'm not sure who Franz is).

I'm not sure I saw any version of Count movie. ☺

message 1489: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments LOL! Did you see the flow chart on Wiki for that book's characterss? Insane!

Anyway...

M. Franz de Quesnel: A Baron and good friend of Albert de Morcerf. Albert and Franz meet the Count of Monte Cristo during carnival time in Italy. Franz is pledged to marry Valentine Villefort in an arranged marriage.

Valentine de Villefort: Villefort was the magistrate that helped frame Edmond. (view spoiler) Valentine is Villefort's daughter from his first marriage to Renee de St. Merain.

Albert von Morcerf: The son of Fernand and Mercédès de Morcerf. (Who you know already.)

Renee de Saint Meran: The first wife of M. de Villefort and Valentie's mother. The daughter of the Marquis and Marquise Saint-Meran, extremely rich and well-known royalists who leave their fortune to their granddaughter Valentine.

I've managed to read 17 pages in two days which feels so strange because I used to read at least 50 pages a day without fail!!

Moonstone. Followed by Leather Jacket Black & Electric Lime. We are currently in 9th place.

Mods want to finish this round before Christmas so we are getting extra points all the time. There are Captain Cupcakes' puzzles where you get cupcakes which can be exchanged for extra points on read books (with certain page/word number) and there are monthly Mods challenges where, if team finishes it, we get more points. Of course. all of those are optional. Those who wants, do it, those who don't, don't. And since there are couple of us here who have trouble saying no to challenges (we need to start support group!), we are doing all of them.

I quite enjoyed it. Right from the beginning I had a sinister feeling which only kept on growing as the story progressed. Good thing I didn't read the blurb before I began reading so the turning of the pages only kept on growing my sense of foreboding. And the end...loved it.

I found that chart from your review. :D I tried to follow it, but I didn't meet all of the characters yet, so it was difficult to figure out.

I think I'll need something 'normal' after it. Maybe Three Musketeers but probably Jane Austen. ☺

Turtlecollector Dennis | 1164 comments A note for my teammates:

No one has done any of the Captain Cupcake puzzles from 134 on yet. Feel free to do any of them. I have been doing the puzzles, but I don't want anyone to think they can't do them since I have been doing them.

Sorry, missed your post.
I've read it as BR with Karen (and few others) at the beginning of the year. (Karen never finished it!)
I was kinda disappointed with it. For some reason I was expecting something like Jane Austen and got something totally opposite. And I did read it soon after JA or something similar (Maybe Gaskell? I need to check.) so that probably put me in wrong way of thinking.
That sinister feeling was killing me. To be honest, couple of times I wanted to quit it because it was going too slow, but then something would happen and I would continue reading it. And ending? I could use chapter or two more. I had feeling I'm missing some pages. :P
I'm not sorry I've read it, but I don't think it will end up as reread.
