I am now reading: Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3) by Richelle Mead . This is a re-read for me.

message 1702: by Diane L (new)

Diane L I used to feel like I had to finish every book. Then I read Lolita for the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die group. Never again will I finish a book I feel that negatively about.

Barb Nicole wrote: "like Barb, though, I grabbed a couple of Rob Thurman books yesterday for a dollar each. If they aren't great, no big deal ;)"

Daughter and I went to our Friends of the Library book sale last night. Between us, we spent $75 or so on books, but when you consider that we each got 30+ books for that price, that's not bad at all :)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Friends of the library! I must keep that in mind. That's a lot of books.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments I just posted my 100th book for the Challenge. It was an old school Philippa Carr historical romantic suspense.

Karla Lisa - (Aussie Girl) wrote: "I wish I could be like that! Not me, if I start a book some strange force compels me to finish..."

I usually try to finish each book I start. It took me three tries to finish Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, but I am so glad I did! It had been my favorite book since I was 15. Now, each time I don't like a book, I keep hoping it will get better. I also try to finish books that I choose for challenges.

I have one book on my "can't finish" shelf that I will never finish. It started to really upset me.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Way to go Lisa!!!! :)))

I try to finish everything I start. I don't always... But I can tell you that the number of books I've quit reading is probably less than ten... For ALL my reading years. X)

message 1709: by Diane L (new)

Diane L Congratulations Lisa!

Finished Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3) by Richelle Mead and now going to read Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, #4) by Richelle Mead

message 1712: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Been reading Etiquette and Espionage, but I don't want it to end, so I've started reading Ship of Destiny to put it off.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Nicole wrote: "Been reading Etiquette and Espionage, but I don't want it to end, so I've started reading Ship of Destiny to put it off."

Is it as good as the Parasol Protectorate, Nicole? I really liked that series but this one is YA and that put me off a bit.

message 1714: by Barb (new)

Barb OK, I'm confused! Just checked out the Sunday update thread, and we're listed in 4th place on the regular list, but in 3rd place on the adjusted list. Which one is the "official" list?? Does anyone know?

message 1715: by Lisa Kay (new)

Just another way to look at things, Barb. We will declare the winner by number of books read and BAPs earned. However, the Percent of Goal is pretty impressive, as EL has a goal of 1,396 - as compared to your 1,351.

message 1716: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Thanks for clarifying, LK. I was going to say -- I like that we moved to third in that ranking, but not at the expense of EL having to drop a few slots all over a different method!

It's crazy how many books all the teams have read together in the overall challenge.

We are INSANE readers!

message 1717: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Well, it takes some juggling for everyone find what their goal should be. Real Life gets in the way of our reading (Drat!). EL's members were great about adjusting theirs.

I wasn't going to take anyone off a Team, just because they went above 1350. That would have been really insane. People change their goals so much, I would have been taking them off and putting them back on until my eyes crossed. LOL!

message 1718: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments haha! I can imagine.

So many books read... crazy. I love it!

message 1719: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Lisa, I think E&E was definitely worth it, but I read YA. To me, it read like a more sophisticated version of Harry Potter.

I also loved the tie ins to Gail's other work, which you'll also recognise.

message 1720: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Now about to start Grave Surprise!

message 1721: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Lol nancy didn't you post the same thing earlier? :p

message 1722: by [deleted user] (new)

oops i did. i'll delete it.

message 1723: by Karla (new)

Karla Saw the kid who plays Kurt from Glee on Queen Latifah's show, he said that this is the last season of Glee.

message 1724: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Nancy, you don't have to delete it. I just wasn't sure if you meant to put something else the second time!

Karla, they've renewed Glee for seasons five (this current one) and six, and have released statements both by FOX officials and show runner/creator Ryan Murphy that the end of the show will be at the end of season six. He also mentioned that they have to rework the entire sixth season now, as a large portion of it was going to be the re-budding romance of Finn and Rachel as "end-game."

So sad.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Monsieur Mango... are we going to have an internal challenge for November? Nothing too complex something just to spur us on our quest for third place (books read) in the Tower Teams Challenge and before the pre-Christmas craziness starts...

message 1726: by Barb (new)

Barb We are, Lisa - as soon as M. Mango has time to post it :)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Good one!

message 1728: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Bah! M Mango totally forgot!

I have seen a lot of low-star reviews. And Jessica in Cadet Blue commented that she needed a break from reading after she finished it.

Doesn't bode well. I loved loved loved the first two. *sigh*

Jane | 705 comments Finished The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus, #3) by Rick Riordan The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan 572 pages.

I have ordered the next one + the demigod diaries from the library. Then I have to wait a year for the final book, I am not happy about that!

Welcome back Kayla :-)

message 1742: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Jane, I know the feeling! I finished House of Hades and then realized that... Omg... Must wait a whole year now... Noooooo

message 1743: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Allegiant by Veronica Roth. I thought it was a good book. Didn't really like how the book ended but over all, I still enjoyed the whole series by her. Now, when I get home from school, it's back to Blood Promise by Richelle Mead.

message 1744: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Awesome Nancy! I'll be reading it soon an we can compare opinions :p

Barb I've finally finished The Final Cut. I really liked it and will definitely be watching for the next in the series. My only complaint is that I didn't like one thing that happened near the end of the book. I'll have to think on it for a few days to see how much that really bugs me!

Oh, and Steven, I believe this has been approved as a chunkster.

message 1747: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'll double check Barb! :)

message 1748: by Steven (new)
