Oops, seems I've dropped in too late to vote, but I definitely liked this idea, Karla. Maybe we can revisit this for a future month.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Really like the new challenge Steven. Good one.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Barb and Sallie, I've read Virgin River up to about no 10. They are good uncomplicated romances and the town is as much a character as the people. I like to read a couple and have a break for variety.

message 705: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I liked Karla's idea as well, but it wasn't feasible at all -- it would have had Barb having to read over 22 books in a month! She's fast but that's a lot. Plus Evana's number would have been high as well, and my average is skewed because I've been pushing way harder to read more since Round II started.

Thanks, Lisa!

message 706: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I tried to make a challenge that you could fit your already planned books in without changing too much up, other than the spell out part.

:)

I only quasi plan what I have upcoming to read, but I know some people plan a whole month ahead.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments I don't really plan either. With over 100 books in my paper and kindle TBR I just pull out books that fit my challenges. Of course there are always some new releases of series that I'm following that have to be read immediately!

message 708: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Me too Lisa!!

I have probably 200 Kindle books waiting for me and fifteen print books I own that are unread waiting... And then of course there are the books people on here make me read, like the buddy read of The Passage, that add to my lists, and then the library lets me check out ebooks, and Kindle Daily Deals....

Aaaah too many books! Haha!

I only plan when we have specific requirements like doing my category for Sevens, and otherwise I usually have two or three books on the next up stack. (Usually moving along in a series)

And favorite authors new book releases come first! After I finish the book I'm on now, I'm starting a book that came out last week... Then another one comes out Tuesday! So pumped, one closes a trilogy and the other is from my top favorite author!

message 709: by Barb (new)

Barb I 'only' have ~150 ebooks (combined Kindle and Nook), over 200 print books that I own, close to 100 audiobooks ... and over 450 books on my library 'to-request' list. Yikes!

I only attempt to plan my reading when I have a monster challenge with a relatively short duration, but even then I end up changing my mind so many times that I sometimes wonder why I bother making a list in the first place!

And of course, new releases take priority, especially those from favorite authors. And that throws everything ALL out of whack LOL

Actually, having looked at the challenge that you did set, I meant to mention I have very much liked what you've got up there. And, if I have time to read more books than I've currently got listed, I'm sure I can fit them into the remaining 9 slots in future edits :D

AND it's brought to my attention two other people who are planning on reading Heartless (Parasol Protectorate, #4) by Gail Carriger next month so that's a win!

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 775 comments I just finished Heartless by gail carriger...06.25.2013...4*s...385 pgs....i love this series...getting ready to start a biggie...An Echo in the Bone by diana gabaldon...

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments Good one Sallie, I'm just about to start Heartless.

I've read all of the Outlander series. They are epic. Get ready for some really interesting developments towards the end of Echo... and some cliffhangers. Lucky the next book is out in December.

message 714: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I haven't heard of this Outlander series. Is it a similar genre / style to Gail Carriger's stuff or something completely different?

message 715: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Umm, it's about time travel :D

message 716: by Steven (new)

message 717: by Barb (new)

Barb Time Lord Steven?? There *has to be a story ... :)

message 718: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Just an obsession with Doctor Who. That's all. :D

message 719: by Barb (new)

Barb Aha LOL

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments No Nicole, completely different. It's an epic historical/historical romance with some time travel elements that has been going for over twenty years - the 8th book is out in December. Most of it is set in Scotland then USA from about 1745. It is intricately researched and the author Diana Gabaldon only releases a book every 3-5 years. The characters are amazing and the hero Jamie Fraser is on a lot of reader's lists as the greatest romance hero ever.

I think in Australia the first book was published under the name Cross Stitch but in other places Outlander and that is the name that the series is known by.

Nothing unhealthy about that! ;)
Although the current series hasn't been doing it for me, I have still been pretty impressed with Matt Smith

Oh really?! I find her quite annoying. I was hoping in the last episode she would just get left behind in that time stream. I don't like the romance angle and she us just a little "all that". I miss Amy and Rory :(

message 725: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey guys. Glad to still on the team after being invisible for a while. I had a lot of things happen the last time i posted. Had a wedding (but decided not to go cause of major family drama) then started summer classes and also, looking for a new place to live. Haven't finished any books lately cause of everything that was going on. Hopefully, I can.

message 726: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry, I've been inactive. If you guys, don't want me in your team anymore, i can ask to be put in a different team since I've let you guys down from not being inactive.

message 727: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Nancy, glad to see you! You've been gone a while and we weren't sure what happened! I've sent you a PM!

Karen, I like Amy (Rory is meh), but Clara is refreshingly spunky and actually takes charge!

I think she's a flirt, but I don't think the romance angle will go much farther than flirting.

Lurker dropping in! I LOVED Rory, and I miss him. I really liked Rory and Amy's relationship, and how they had each other and didn't make the Doctor the center of their universe.

I'm withholding judgement on Clara still. I have to watch the last two episodes in this season yet, and I've heard the finale is crazytown!

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Rory irritated me because no matter how many times Amy proved he was her choice, he still was all insecure.

But hey, he also waited thousands of years by her side... so that wins a few points.

He's Time's New Roman ;) I hated him at first because he was such a whiney goober, but after he punched the Doctor and Hitler I was firmly on his team.

Nancy, it's the greatest and best TV show of all time :D

CountessPaige de Quantity | 150 comments Announcement

A decision has been made regarding the use of juvenile/children's/middle grade books for Round II. We have decided that we will accept all non-picture books equal to and greater than 160 pages. Little children's books are still not acceptable (for example: Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss , Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. , and Richard Scarry's Best Rainy Day Book Ever by Richard Scarry ).

As you are reading your book, think about the following: does it seem like there are 250 words per page? How many pages have you read in 15 minutes - is it more than normal? When you tag your book look at the other editions - does that version's page numbers look similar to the others. If you have a question, ask in the Page Numbers, Just About Page Numbers... and we will help you out.

For all electronic books (ebook/Kindle/audio) that do not have an equivalent print copy on goodreads, they will still be verified for a word count. In situations where electronic books vary by 100 pages to print editions, those will also be verified.

The Moderators and Countess Paige will still be conducting random spot checks. We reserve the right of veto power over some books, specifically ‘gift books’, ‘novelty books’, or ‘coffee table books’.

Thank you for your time and understanding!

Jane | 705 comments I won't be so visible the next week or so. My phone company was so nice they didn' read the date on the form we filled out so they decided to cut power 3 days before the date we asked!! I will try to keep reading and make short updates.

Thanks for letting us know Jane. Ugh, the perils of utility companies. They never really do what they're supposed to! X)

Hope everything works out... and keep reading!

Barb Welcome back, Nancy, it's good to see you! Jane, good luck with the move, we'll look forward to hearing from you when you get settled in the new place.

Good luck to all who are moving *shudders at the thought* When our kids were small, we moved every 2-3 years, and I do NOT miss those days. We've been in this house for nearly 15 years, and it's *still hard to believe -- until you look around and see all the STUFF we've accumulated in that time LOL One thing about moving frequently: it forced us to look at and clean out our STUFF every couple of years :)

Barb Jane wrote: " I am just now in the library but I am only allowed 100 mb three times a week and that is not very much."

Maybe you could just tag your books Read and for our team shelf until you get back to a regular internet connection, then post here in the team thread with what you read and your thoughts on the books? I wouldn't want you to 'waste' your allotted 100mb on chatter in our thread!

Ah you guys had fun while I was sleeping... here's my catch up...

@Ashley Marie

(I am also a lurker, don't worry...lol)
That is what I miss so much about Rory and Amy. They had such a great relationship and I LOVED their friendship with The Doctor. I really get annoyed with companions that fall in love with The Doctor. I could forgive Rose, but then straight into Martha annoyed me (without her loving the Doctor I would have enjoyed that series much more), and Donna Noble was probably my favourite, and it was just such a nice change to have a "couple" as companions.
Times New Roman! lol!

Steven - I agree Victorian Clara was one of her beter incarnations. I just haven't warmed to her. But I am not blaming her for this series, I just think the writing was very poor. Every episode followed the formula of:
--oh my god disaster -- ahh the world is ending -- ah ah ah such a disaster -- oh quick we just fixed it
I can't help but compare with some of those great episodes like The Library or The Angels. And although the "clara storyline" is meant to be the theme of the story it kind of came to an abrupt conclusion. I'm hoping the next part of the series will be better as it seems many people feel the same

message 749: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Ah, I was very much entertained by the whole Clara half of the series. And I especially loved the episode penned by Neil Gaiman!
