This is actually a glass of blueberry mint lemonade that I made, I've been experimenting with all kinds of fun lemonades. I've also done raspberry vanilla, yum!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hi guys. Just did all the clicking and spreadsheet updating for tonight's update. The tracker says 473 but it's off. There's 2 books on someone's shelf that are too short for this and 1 book on another players shelf that fits but wasn't put on our shelf. These players will be messaged.

But it's a good reminder to go through your shelf and make sure you 1: have all your qualifying books on your pewter blue shelf and 2: all your pewter blue books meet the 160 pages or more requirement.

Mrs. Dresden, I am with you on Shaun Cassidy -- he was my main man during the Hardy Boys days, hehe. Never liked Leif Garrett, though.

Karen, I was into so many hair bands in the 80s/90s. My favorite in high school was Metallica and I was in lust with the lead guitarist, hahaha. My best friend and I would just watch MTV and drool over all these rock stars with their long hair, hehehe. I just heard Skid Row today on the drive home! I haven't actually listened to them in years. Ahhh, Sebastian Bach, such a pretty face and such a pretty voice. Did you watch Gilmore Girls? I loved him on that.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Yes, I think Henry Cavill is yummalicious, too!

Mary, how did the 4H show go? I love guinea pigs!! And, that's too funny about your bff getting all hysterical about Jon BonJovi getting married! I love it. My high school friend was in loooove with Jimmy Page, from Led Zeppelin, and she was all upset when he got married. So funny, as if these girls had a chance or something, hahaha. Great news about your mom being able to drive! That sounds like terrific progress to me.

Riya - I hope you had fun at tennis camp!

@NAncy - as to how I know when a book is a winner or when to tell how long to give before putting it down, it really depends on the individual book and what my issues are with it. I tried to read The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs a few years ago and I just found the writing so trite and the storylines just too convoluted but I gave it about 100 pages before I finally quit. I think I skimmed a lot of those pages, though, giving it to 100 to see if it would actually get better but it didn't. Other books, I've almost given up at about page 25 but instead I would skim and some of them ended up being some of my favorite books so I was glad to give them a chance. I don't just stop at a certain page number, most of the time I skim because maybe I'm just having a bad reading day or maybe the little thing that bugs me will not bug me if I give the book/author some time.

I recently "read" that on audio. Funny, because I had to listen to the first part of it about 3 times before I got my head around it and ended up really enjoying the book :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments My favorite children's books were Beezus and Ramona (Ramona, #1) by Beverly Cleary and ALL of the Ramona books, plus Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing (Fudge, #1) by Judy Blume and the rest of those books, and add me to the Trixie Belden fan club! I loved her so much when I was younger. I have the first 15 or 16 books (I can't recall..think it's 16) in hard cover. Unfortunately, our garage flooded and some of the books were ruined and have mold on the edges of the pages but I refuse to get rid of them! I will re-read them someday, too.

As for books from my son's childhood, during his infancy and toddler/preschool years my favorite authors to read to him were Sandra Boynton and Eric Carle. We loved Dream Snow by Eric Carle Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. Snuggle Puppy! (Boynton on Board) by Sandra Boynton Moo, Baa, La La La! by Sandra Boynton Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton Doggies (Boynton Board Books) by Sandra Boynton , plus Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.

My son also loves the Wimpy Kid and Geronimo Stilton books. And he likes Big Nate Strikes Again by Lincoln Peirce Big Nate books.

My son had to be nearly naked (diaper/undies) at the age! Minute we'd come home from anywhere, he'd tear off his clothes. I think it's a phase they go through at that age. I know a lot of people who have had the same discussion about their kids, haha!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments The stripping thing is common for toddlers and preschoolers. My daughter went through that. One time my husband's (now ex) CO's wife came over to go over a charity thing the Officer's Spouse's club was doing and I was running. Anyway I walk her out to her car and my daughter, about 3 at the time, comes bounding out stark naked. I'd have her in the grocery cart and I'd turn my back for a second to look at something and she'd be naked in the cart. I'd go in to check on her during the night and she'd be sleeping naked.

She still likes to walk around with hardly any clothing now but the naked thing does stop.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Oh and we're up to 474 books, not including the one I just mentioned to Nancy. I think we'll hit 500 by the next update. I have a bunch of short audiobooks lined up for the August challenge.

Go team!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Finished two books while on my trip: Love, Lucy by Lucille Ball - 4-stars. Loved reading about Lucy's childhood and her life while growing up. And I started and finished The Hit (Will Robie, #2) by David Baldacci in the motel and on the drive home. 4-stars, also.

I need to get back into The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman so I can get back to the Q&A threads, plus I started Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson before I left and would like to finish it, but I think I need a little break from reading for the day, maybe. At least, until bed. Reading in the car really tired me of reading. I get anxious when we take that long trip so I have to read in order to not focus on the cars around us, plus it was a suspense novel so I was reading so fast to see how it would end. Yeah, I need to decompress now, LOL!

We had a nice visit for the most part but it was short and the drive was long and I got a little irritated at people for some things that I won't get into, heh, but overall it was nice to go. My in-laws gave me birthday presents a little early and had a birthday cake for me, so that was really sweet. Glad to be home. I think I'll eat dinner and veg out for a bit.

Teresa - I managed to get through

The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs

but never did read another book by Kate Jacobs.

I will admit a little secret if I didn't already. When I am having trouble with a book and especially if I'm well into the book, I may read the last 20 pages or 2 chapters to see if the ending intrigues me enough to go back and read through the book. Or sometimes, I do a major skim job by reading the first page of a chapter and the last. I hate to out a book down as unfinished but then again I hate to waste my time either.

message 1139: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) As for why we enjoy some books and find others torture, I do think it depends what is going on around us at the time, or the mood we're in or sometimes it's the way we perceive the author and their writings. When I look at a book by Joyce Carol Oates, it's as if I break out in hives thinking this author is just too way over the top. One of the books I tried reading had two pages that was one paragraph and I thought I would go bonkers continuing to read this title. But put a Jodi Picoult book into my hands and it's as if the pages turn themselves. As an example of time and place after our daughter was born - and she was a good baby - I couldn't read a book for almost a year. I couldn't concentrate. But then I decided on the eve of her first birthday to reread the last book I read before she was born and it went down like ice cream.

As for enjoying a book, when I was younger I read a book a day practically. Now even though I most likely have more time, I read slower so I may read two books a week. But if I really love a book and want to stretch it out since it's so good, I find myself finishing it quickly. Therefore, any book which takes me more than a week usually isn't a 4 star or 5 IMO.

How did you find this out? Do you go through all of the team members to see what they've read and if they included the titles for Pewter Blue? How many members are there? And thanks for keeping us on track.

Sorry, I forgot. I did notice that in some of my other groups I failed to include this as a book read. Maybe it's cause I have too many places where I do this. LOL

Speaking of which, how many calendars do you have? I keep one in my pocketbook, the kitchen counter next to our phone, my night table, my office, the desk in the loft, my I PAD and I still would forget dates in the past. Now, once a week I gather them all together to make sure thy are all up to date.

Call me mood reader too!! But I can't determine what makes me choose one book over another one.

For me being a mood reader is hard since I reserve so many books and hardly ever read any of them. The mood which has me reserving titles leaves me just as quickly. I always vow to stop reserving titles but once said, I always continue to do this. Same thing when I bought books and now download them. They are no sooner accessible to me that I decide to read something else. I am a greedy bookaholic I always tell people.

message 1143: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Oh me too. It's why I like to have a large personal library. I'll be in the mood for something, request it from the library and it if takes more than a day or two to arrive, that mood is often over. I've been making myself put less on hold, unless they're audio books, at once so I'm not overwhelmed.

message 1144: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments One of my dogs is really sick. He's 12 and I am worried that we might have to put him down tonight. He hasn't eaten in days although my daughter called to say that my sister got him to eat some chicken. Twice now he has thrown up this nasty liquid and just laid in it, which is not normal for him. He's having a hard time standing up too. Yesterday he couldn't even lift his leg to pee.

I'm stuck at work and starting to feel physically ill over this whole thing. I don't want to make the decision to put him down too early. At the same time I don't want him to be suffering and I'm a single mother on a fairly limited income. I can't afford to be constantly bringing him to the vet. He was just there last month because I was worried about him and they said he was fine and just getting old. That visit was $200 with the joint supplements they suggested, which he won't even eat now.

message 1147: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Ugh. So I come home and the dog is wagging his tail and walking around. So I called the vet and they said to try feeding him plain rice & chicken for a couple of days and see how he does with that.

It's like when my daughter was little and she'd be screaming and super crabby at home with a fever and then at the Dr's she'd be happy & laughing and chatting and no fever and they'd look at me like I was nuts.
