It would not be equitable to allow you to keep both Melissa B's books while gaining Alexia's too.

This has not been done with other Teams, either. Only when there was not yet a replacement player were Teams allowed to used books by members who left the challenge, and then it was calculated as an "on track percent."

The only situation where we would allow a Team to keep books from a player who has left is if the replacement player just joined GRs and did not know the books they had read since April 12th, thereby having no books to post yet. This would put the receiving Team at a distinct disadvantage. However, even then we would only allow an "on-track percent" of the old member to be used up to the date where the new member joined.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments So what happens if she never comes back to sign out of goodreads? Are the mods able to remove her or will you just keep deducting 26 books from our total?

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm going out of town for a couple of days. I will have my laptop with me and might check in if the hotel has wifi. I've asked Vicky to do the Sunday update. Alexia has been added to the spreadsheet. I left Melissa on because she hasn't removed herself yet. So kind of waiting for what the mods tell me to do. They will probably deduct her 26 books from our total when they do their update. That's what I'm expecting anyway.

Safe Journey, Mrs. Dresden.

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments What's everyone reading lately?

I just recently plowed through Diana Gabaldon's Lord John Grey series which is a spin-off from Outlander, it wasn't as good as the main Outlander novels, but I'm a bit of a completionist when it comes to stories/worlds that I love, so I had to read them and they definitely do add some intriguing bits to the overall story.

I also finished up the Desperate Duchesses series. I don't normally read historical romances because I find them to be a bit formulaic, but I love Eloisa James' style - she's very witty and the book have a bit of a theatrical comedy flair that reminds me of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest - and would definitely recommend this series!

I started Gone Girl in audio last night, but I've been very antsy lately. Not for any particular reason, I don't think, but I'm just having trouble sitting down and focusing on reading. I can listen to a book while I do something else, but I'm running out of things to do!

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Also, we just got 12 of our chunksters approved for bouncing cupcakes, so we'll have 12 bonus points added to our total for this Sunday's update! Yay!

message 614: by Karsyn (last edited Jul 05, 2013 07:16PM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) The first 2 days of July I read ~

Shaken
Dash & Lily's Book of Dares
Full Tilt

I've had to slow down. I'm a pen paller, and I had to get some letters written before I got further behind. But I'm slowly (just at night) working through Spirit Bound, a chunkster. Working on my July Spell-it-out.

message 615: by Riya (new)

Riya I've got lots of books going right now, but my big two are: And Then There Were None and Silverfin

message 616: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments I am sorry. My reading has slowed down lately - life. I may have too much on my plate. But I am still reading.

message 617: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments No reason to be sorry, life happens! You've read one of the top percentages of books based on your personal goal out of all of us, I think you've earned some slow reading time! :)

message 618: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Finished

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5) by Richelle Mead

Too tired to come up with my next book. :) I think I need something shorter before taking on the last in the series. :)

message 619: by Sarah (last edited Jul 05, 2013 11:42PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yeah. My goal is set realistically for me, I think, if I continue to devote as much time as I have been. But I also could be focusing on other things - I really need to start exercising on a regular basis and clean more and probably pick more shifts up at work. I have a lazy streak. I should do more things with my three year old daughter. She is growing up with a mom who will lay around with her all day reading while she plays games with herself, hangs out with her dad and uncle and her half-brother who visits on weekends. Also she will watch t.v.- granted what she watches on t.v. is actually pretty good toddler programming. She actually has learned a lot. And she already is interested in books and letters and spelling so she probably gets that from me and her uncle - my brother. Definitely not from her dad. But she is also playing toddler video games already, which she gets from her dad. She will play games on my Kindle - when I am not reading on it- while I read actual real books. Now I am feeling like I sound like a bad mother. I actually spend more time with her than anyone and do take her on playdates and play with her - which I love. But she does share her time with my books - it's true. In September she is going to get to go to school- prekindergarten- two years early. They are starting at age three instead of age four. That will be twice a week for a half day. Even more free time for me and a great social outlet for her.
I am a part-time nurse who has always picked up more shifts but lately I have been working less. But now I am on vacation - on a stay at home vacation - you would think more reading time but I haven't been as in the mood now that I have even more time. My goal is not as ambitious as some others though. I am amazed at how many books some people in the groups read! But I only read 32 books last year - granted most of them were door stoppers - and in just the first six months of 2013 have read 30. So I am doing good. Granted most my books this year are about half as long as my ones last year - so page wise I might be about the same. But I sure feel like I am reading much more than last year. I used to read 1 book at a time too. Now I will read anywhere from 2 to 4 books at a time.
Anyway thanks for letting me ramble on.
And... GO TEAM. LETS KEEP ON CHALLENGING OURSELVES AND SEE IF WE CAN WIN.

If not - think of all the great reads we will have accomplished.

Award to me for the most I have ever written in one comment on Goodreads. I just had some coffee - and I don't drink coffee. Can't you tell? But now my teammates know a little more about me:).

Pewter Blue, you have a new member. Please welcome Nancy (NJ) {Name Alert} (100).

I have put the NJ after her name; she may change it to K.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Sarah, mother guilt is a horrible thing. If your daughter feels like she wants or needs your attention she will definitely let you know. I'm sure you are doing plenty with her that you don't even realize, however, there is of course nothing wrong with spending what you feel is more quality time with her. Just please don't feel like a bad mother or that you sound like one! If you were a bad mother at all, you wouldn't even care enough to write all of that out that you just shared with us. I bet your daughter enjoys hanging out with you doing her own thing while you do yours sometimes, too. Sometimes, I love to just sit on the couch reading while my son (he's 12 and made it through the toddler years with a slacker mom, lol) sits beside me watching a TV show or playing his handheld video games, sometimes reading his own books. We will still communicate or poke at one another or foot fight, which is still quality time in its own way.

message 623: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Does the quiet mean everyone is reading?

I spent a nightmare day in Philadelphia today. It's was insanely hot and crowded. And my GPS kept getting us lost because it would tell us to turn onto streets that weren't there or the wrong way on one-way streets. Then my friend really wanted to go down to water to watch the big fireworks display which was an even worse mass of cars and people.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Ok - I was confused - less so now since Vicki sent me a very detailed e mail of what to do with links to the areas. So I am a member of Tower Team Pewter Blue and signed on with the name of my bookshelf - NancyK18's Challenge Shelf. From my books at the top of the Goodreads page I clicked on this shelf for each of the books I read from April 12th till now. But while I read 32 books, the number for this group on the side of the page says I only read 20. Don't know why and how do I correct this?

Looking forward to meeting team members here when I am a bit more settled.

I thought I'd post a picture for you today! I was sitting out in my yard enjoying the sun when I heard an "owl like" noise from the tree above me. I was so excited to see that we had a pair of tawny frog mouths back! They come into this tree every winter to nest and apparently they mate for life. They are the most gorgeous looking birds, nestled up close together! Unfortunately their camouflage makes them difficult to photograph, so here is an example of what they look like. If I manage to get a photo of our pair I will share it

Thanks so much Mods. Ask a question, get an answer here. I can't believe what an incredible job people do in this group. From the mods to team captains to members, it is an amazing group filled with something for everyone.

I was so confused at the beginning but by clicking on the icon or group name I was taken to all of the folders where I was able to read the welcome folders and another group of folders which pretty much explained everything here. I do apologize for not seeing this earlier since by clicking on home only brings up the most recent messages. To those who answered many questions, I appreciate your help and patience and think I somewhat know the ropes now and continue to feel my way.

They are pretty cool LK. Often mistaken for owls, and in many ways they are similar. I just love how they make their nest in the same spot everywhere and mate for life. I think that is uber cool

And no probs Nancy! It is a big group and I know when I first joined I was a bit overwhelmed, but I quickly found members and mods alike were only too willing to help. It makes for a nice 'community' atmosphere :)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) After much too busy of a weekend, I just want to spend the day reading. But first I have a tennis game and then lunch with the "girls."

I am currently halfway through Looking for Me and three disks into listening to And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini. I love the voices who are narrating Hosseini's book, which include the author, but I'm still not sure I would prefer to read this book instead of listening to it.

Sarah | 3273 comments Just finished The Lost Girls: Three Friends. Four Continents. One Unconventional Detour Around the World.. Wow, it really took me back to my travel days and made me remember all my crazy adventures. I just feel like I got to travel around the world with these girls - kind of. Nothing could compare to the real thing, but I really enjoyed these three woman's experiences spending a year abroad.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hi. Sorry your captain has been AWOL that last couple of days. Had to pick my daughter up in PA from visiting her father. So my bff and I decided to go up early and spend 2 days in Philly. It was so freaking hot and crowded. We didn't get back until 10pm last night and I was too exhausted to come on the computer. I had to be back at work today.

Will catch up on the posts.

Vicky (librovert) | 3138 comments Glad you made it home safe, Mary.

I finally finished A Breath of Snow and Ashes last night. I love the series but they take SO LONG to read. I've been reading it on and off for almost 2 months!

message 648: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Ok so let me see if I have our stats correct because the tracker for Pewter Blue stills shows Melissa & Alexia. I haven't had any contact with Alexia but I'm assuming someone told her she needs to remover herself? If not then I can PM her about that. I asked Melissa to remover herself and she has not.

(these numbers do not include any of our bonus points, just books marked read and goals)

Currently our stats say:
Team goal of 1562
Books read: 417

Real stats are:
Team Goal of 1362
Books read: 366

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments We listened to a short audiobook in the car yesterday but I am still, sadly, 1 book behind. I just can't seem to get ahead. I keep saying I'm going to get in some short cozies but then long time library holds will pop up as available and keep me from those shorter ones.
