Aaron Kiskunas | 3 comments Date Published: Unknown, although I first read the book in the period between 1995-1997, but there is a probability that it is older as it might have belonged to my older sister. In that case, it may have been published anywhere from 1989-1995.

Genre: I don't know specifically, but it was primarily designed around solving puzzles related to museum exhibits with a couple of paragraphs on each page (a puzzle was a two page spread), detailing the story.

Author: Unknown

Additional Information: Essentially the story is about a brother and a sister and their dog who visit a museum for a day, in order to see some special exhibits that were made in order to commemorate a famous fictional explorer. They meet up with a museum guide, and learn that there is some sort of secret that this explorer found, and go through all of the exhibits related to him in order to discover it. Each of the exhibits has a puzzle that is solved (usually something as simple as finding hidden objects, but also a maze, finding the differences between pictures that are the same, etc). Eventually they get to the end, and they discover the secret (it's not actually made known to the reader, you have to find that out on your own).

It's been a book that I've been attempting to look up for a very long time, but nothing at all seems to come up in google searches, apart from Usborne books. I don't know the publisher, but unless my memory is really bad, I don't think it was Usborne who published this.

Cover: The details are a bit hazy for me regarding the cover of the book, but I can remember some stuff about it. It was a hard cover and illustrated in a cartoon style (which is present throughout the whole book), where the two kids, their dog, and the guide running from a giant boulder, in the style of Indiana Jones. The background is a reddish brown colour, and I think it appeared to be a tunnel of some sort or ruins. On the left and right of them there were green and yellow snakes that looked like they were about to bite them. The main colour scheme of the book was reddish-brown, but there was an orange colouring where the cover art folded over to the inside cover (which was also orange if I recall correctly). The font colour of the title was gold/yellow. The boy and girl were dressed in yellow and red shirts (I don't remember which one had which shirt), and jeans. The museum guide looked like a typical guide, dressed in a blue coat and pants with brass buttons and a hat that was similar to a police officer's cap. The dimensions of the book were also fairly large, at least length and width were perhaps 60cm x 50cm, and the thickness was perhaps 1.5-2cm.

If anyone can help me in finding out the title of this book, I would be immensely appreciative. I don't know if I'd ever be able to find the book again, but just knowing the title would make that task all the more easier.

I've just discovered it via help from an old friend of mine in Quebec who found the French version in the library. It seems I was only slightly incorrect. There was three kids (the brother, sister, and their friend), rather than two that I remembered.

It's from the Puzzle Masters series, and it's titled in English "The Quest for the Golden Mane" by John Spiers.

Shanna_redwind | 852 comments This sounds like some of the Usborne Puzzle adventures. I don't know the one you're speaking of specifically, but I found a list of all the puzzle adventures on Wikipedia. Most of them don't have any description unfortunately.

I wish it were so, but I have looked at the published books from the Usborne puzzle series, and not one of them has the same cover as the book I'm looking for, or even the same general description (based on the books from their website).
