I agree Ann, the price seems a bit steep. At first glance, I was thinking of getting the HC, but when I saw the size, I'm thinking of getting it on the Kindle. That's a heavy book and my hands and wrists are gonna hurt holding the HC. This will probably be my birthday present, so I can justify the cost. I'm still expecting to be taken out to dinner.

Don't know if I'm up for reliving the days around the assassination, but King knows how to flesh out any event in new directions. Probably will be like
Bag of Bones; someone will give it to me and I'll read it 8 years later, LOL.

Thanks for the date reminder for The Drop, Lorraine! It is coming up soon and I haven't read the latest Haller book... sigh. so many books and I just finished my first book of the month last night.
Agreed, Sherry - I am not happy at all to see the rash of Kindle releases that are in the $14.99 range - and even higher. UGH. Has anyone noticed when or if the higher Kindle prices go down later? We used to be able to count on a cheaper pb release a year later or coinciding with a new book release.

The list for Tennessee reminded me of the atmospheric Body of a Girl by Leah Stewart. You could feel the Memphis heat through the pages.

You can also see what books are in each state or at least most of them on GRs. that is how I did the book crawl last year And there was another site too I'll see if I can see find it in the last years posts for the crawls and post them.

Pelecanos is one of my favorites, and in my book he can do very little wrong!! The Derek Strange books are absolutely top-notch!

Sandi, what's Grantland? It's got some interesting articles there. I saw some connecting to EPSN, but I couldn't find where it was explained (or maybe I'm too tire at 3:30am as I try to outlast the NE heat wave....)

It is Bill Simmons's site that is underwritten by ESPN. Besides sports it also covers Pop Culture and has had some pretty big league contributors like Malcolm Gladwell, Chuck Klosterman, Dave Eggers, and Jane Leavy. It is a bit too hip for me but there is usually something worth reading most days.

Has anyone used the "Playaway" audio book? even though I don't usually listen to books, I picked up The Innocent by David Baldacci at the library. For those of us who might be behind the times, the Playaway is a self-contained audio book and device. All you do is plug in headphones and go.

I like Playaways, Dan!
My one exception is that in the car it is hard to use the controls to stop or start back up if I need to pause, but they are great for walks. The size and portability is very convenient!

I listened to a couple of books on Playaway but I found it really difficult to rewind in small chunks (could only go back to the beginning of the previous chapter or something) so I abandoned them for my Shuffle and iPod Touch. But I agree with Ann, they are very portable and self-contained.

The comparison of a Playaway's size to a set of audio cd's is hands down a winner for the Playaway. I still prefer more responsive controls such as with my MP3 player, Clip+.

Playaways are cool and they're convient but I can't stand that they break easily. My local library sometimes would carry them, but they wouldn't last for long & sometime when it's knicked you hear a scratcing sound. I would highly suggest listening to cd's or audible.com A friend of mine told me that you could find some audio books thru youtube. =)~

I just came back from my Women's club meeting. One of the women that live here wrote
a book called Flirting with disaster, when love and nature collide. She spoke about this book
and why she wrote it. You can get it on your kindle, but you have to put the whole title in. I haven't read it yet, but is sounds interesting. Her name is Janet S Kleinman.
