Jiaka1981 Winfield What the F@%K. If I wanted to sit and hear about god all day I would go to church. this is bullshit! I don't think they should cater to the lazy religious at the sufferance of everyone else. If someone is to lazy to get their ass up and drive to worship they should got to hell with the rest of us. Now my lazy weekend is interrupted and I am forced to do something that requires being upright. I think the church should pay for me to have cable. I feel my freedoms are being infringed on when church takes over network TV. Infringing on my freedom? .... I knew they are terrorist!

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Kasia My grandma used to listen to mass on the radio. Dragging her ass to church every Sunday got too much for her at some point. It's there for a reason, some people need it. You can flip the channel, you know. You're free to do so.

smetchie | 5729 comments If you are serious about sitting on your ass all day watching television you absolutely MUST have cable or satellite. I'm thinking you have 2 choices.
1) read a book (which does not require you to be upright by the way.)
2) Get cable.

Jiaka1981 Winfield so, i've been reading all day. Did i miss anything good.

Jessica (jessicadowell) I guess i'm not getting why this is upsetting you, lol. The reason church is televised is because there are people who are disabled & physcially cannot be present in the church. Also some people feel more comfortable in their own home. Sure an old lady on her death bed can be wheeled into church by ambulance, but would that be normal? No, thats why church is televised. Common Sense! If it's on tv & you dont want to watch it, turn the channel or leave the house and do something outside.

Anything (pretty much) can be on TV, so why not a church program? Luckily, you can change the channel.

Reads with Scotch I think cable should be free...

remember what the original draw to cable was?

It was television programing without annoying commercials. You were paying the stations so they didn't take on advertisements... wtf ever happened to that?

Reads with Scotch also it was a members only club allowing them a lot of wiggle room with the FCC but now that that is not the case...

message 10: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Why should cable be free? Why encourage people to spend even more time with the remote?

Reads with Scotch It is not a matter of encouraging people to watch more tv, it is that you pay to watch commercials free tv and you are still getting the commercials... you pay to get the FCC's repressive hands out of your home, and they have their hands in the house anyway. so it should be free.

message 12: by Kasia (new)

Kasia There's no such thing as free, everything has its cost - sometimes it's hidden, sometimes delayed, but trust me it's gonna cost ya.

Reads with Scotch yeah I know, but they get advertisement revenue so I don't think I should be paying for "advertisement free" programing.

message 14: by Kasia (new)

Kasia But if there are people willing to pay anyways, why wouldn't they charge? I would...

Reads with Scotch you are missing the point... Were are talking about what "should" be not what "is".

message 16: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Eee... unplug the cable and live off DVDs?

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

It's like the radio. You can listen to public radio, which is already paid for by advertisers and you can hear all about which car dealers in the area want your dough between songs and information. Or you can pay for satellite radio, and not hear about Ron Tonkin's Beaverton Honda every flipping minute. Or listen to your ipod.

message 18: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell I hear mostly mortgage companies advertised on terrestial radio. Until recently, that is. Now it's mostly loan modification companies.

message 19: by Tom (new)

Tom Foolery (tomfoolery) Mortgage modification company = rip off. If you're lucky. If you're not lucky, it's a scam.

message 20: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell That's what I've heard.

message 21: by Shane (new)

Shane (shanobi) TV is almost completely comprised of mind-rotting reality shows anyway. Why is it that people love watching someone else make an ass of themselves and display how pathetic, skeezy, and self-important they are when they could easily get the experience first hand. You don't need to be recorded to show what a worthless waste of skin you are, just stop down at your local bar. I can barely stand to watch TV at all anymore. Seeing the state that society has sunk to makes me depressed and ill.

Reads with Scotch you obviously Don't watch HBO Sunday nights... It's not TV it's HBO; with the exception of 'In Treatment' it rocks.

In treatment just sucks NBC ass.

message 23: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 5729 comments Shane I don't know what you're talking about. The pathetic, skeezy, self-importantness is multiplied by a gazillion when you put a camera on most asses. Plus, those idiots on reality shows volunteered for it so I don't feel bad laughing at them.
When I see those kinds of idiots in person I tend to feel bad for them.

message 24: by Shane (new)

Shane (shanobi) It's not that I feel bad laughing at them. At first reality TV was funny, watch the idiots, well... be idiots. What sickens me is the scale it's gotten to.
It makes me ill to think that this is what entertainment has come to. I can concede to HBO ;) I can't abide by The Hills, or Brett Michaels (would somebody just shoot that dumbass PLEASE!?!) or the like. Hell, Ted Nugent has one coming out where he actually hunts people! (OK that's kinda cool) Each to his/her own mind you, I just think it's pathetic that crap like that has legs to stand on, it just proves to me how morbid and depraved society is, and it makes me a little sad.
