Miss Bee I liked THIS MAN, not that much, because I thought JESSE had a back story for being such a freak. But after reading Beneath This Man, I almost smashed my Kindle and couldn't stomach of liking the guy because it was just crazy. Everything about Jesse was CRAZY. How could Ava be so blind of how sick of a person he was? Getting married SERIOUSLY? I don't know if I would be reading the next book. Is there a third book? I don't know. Sorry, but I couldn't even compare him to Christian, Gideon or James Cavendish.

Leslie Jesse is a pyschopath! I hated every sentence in those 2 books.... it took me forever to read them. It's like the Christian Grey-esque characters are getting worse and worse in characterization. Jesse had no redeeming qualities about himself. He didn't respect her, he manipulated her horribly, and he used sex to control her. I thouht I hated her but it's really I hate that she put up with someone who has no good things going for themselves. He thinks that saying "I love you" will make up for him being to complete disrespectful ass.

Chrissie I enjoyed This Man and was really looking forward to Beneath this Man...
Well...lets just say I also found myself throwing my Kindle on the bed hoping Ava would SERIOUSLY open her damn eyes and not give in to his demands...
OK so she kind of annoyed me in the first book because she kept running away all the time but NOW... for god sake woman, Where's your woman hood gone?
Every single time he did something wrong and she wanted it out with him she gave in to the sex he gave her! I think the only sex scene that really did it for me was on the rowing machine...I mean I'm not going to lie, that got me all hot and bothered and I couldnt wait to see the boyfriend later that evening...
Anyway I'm going of track now!!
Back to Ava and Jesse...the shocking scene (those of you who have read it know what I'm talking about)
if that was me I would have gone NUTS at Jesse for walking in and seeing what I saw but NO she forgave him like 24hrs later...REALLY!...REALLY AVA!!!
Oh and please tell me he has a better dark past than what we already know...
If there's more manipulation, disrespect and stupid-ness in the third book then I wont be able to finish it!

Tanya Santiago These two books just didn't do it for me.. I took me forever to read the 2nd.. I made the decision that I will not be reading the third. Yes, I have to agree with Leslie, Jesse is a psychopath. His behavior in the book is NOT appealing and I can't see how someone would "swoon" over his character in the book.

Tracy MissB wrote: "I liked THIS MAN, not that much, because I thought JESSE had a back story for being such a freak. But after reading Beneath This Man, I almost smashed my Kindle and couldn't stomach of liking the g..."

I got to a point were I just wanted to stop reading the book, but I couldn't put it down cause I was hoping...praying.. crossing my god damn fingers and toes that Ava would seriously grow a back bone and tell Jesse to eff off.. lol.. Jesse exhausted me! I'm only 1/2 looking forward to the next book.

Leslie I Gree. I liked the first but the second was way way too much, over the top.

Leslie Agree

JustaDreamer Just giving my opinion and it means nothing to anyone just me.
I think sometimes we forget that we are reading "fiction". Yes women find themselves in relationships like this. But this is "fiction" it will have a "revelation","break-through",a "redemption" and a "happy ending that is a constant work in progress".
This happens to be one of my favorite books.Huge praise to Jodi Malpas on her first series.
I see a guy who is seriously f'd up and we don't really understand why yet.He has never cared for anyone until Ava came into his life and he doesn't know how to take care of her other than to be so protectively controlling. He has such a fear of something happening to her, such a fear of losing her and we don't understand why yet.I promise there is a reason. And on the other hand he has never had to answer to anyone so he is oblivious to the fact that Ava would have issues with him being around the women he has had sex with because he feels like she should know how commited he is to her that there should be no doubt.
In the real world tho how many of us women would let our men work side by side with all the women they screwed even knowing they love us?Yep! Exactly!!!
Anyway...Fiction...I might want to be blindfolded and strapped into a sex swing by my drop dead gorgeous, sexy, model, billionaire while he pulls my hair and smacks my ass bringing me to climax over and over until I can barely raise my head.Does that make me a weak woman who deep down inside wants to be abused??? Hell No!!! Just makes me a Freak ;) It's Escapism.Just my opinion.

LOVE IT!

Leslie Justadreamer, I also like what you said! Although I liked the first book better, we do get so wrapped up we forget it's fiction. The consequences of this type of person in real life would probably be different but reality schmality. I read to get a way and escape reality so I agree about what you wrote. I think my problem in the second books stems from Ava. I wish she would stick to her guns a bit more than she does. Thanks for sharing your opinion! :)

JustaDreamer TY Norma and Leslie for your kind words :)

i agree with you Chrissie. i really got frustrated with Ava and wanted her to defy and challenge hi. i mean how could it take her so long to realize why her pills were disappearing! i mean, she had the power to get answers from Jesse but didnt use it at the right time. Jesse was so controlling and dominating and she just took it. Arg!! Right now i dont know if i want to read the 3rd book. with the way this book ended i dont know whether Jesse would have a justifiable reason for acting the way he did. Curious though to see how she would handle Mikel(the swedish millionaire)All that could have been done in the second book as the story dragged on and on. i suppose trilogy is the order of the day now.

~IreneOust~ Justadreamer, well said! Most of us do read to escape reality so the farther some subject matter is from what happens in my life, the better.

There ARE other series out there for those who disliked This Man trilogy.

I guess we can't all agree on everything because, personaly, I found Up In The Air trilogy the biggest waste of my time and money but to each their own.

Peace!

Thank God for some sense on this thread.
Well said, Bravo..

Miss Bee Thanks everyone for giving out your own opinion and I respect em all. Yes this is fiction but we all have limits to what we can read and what we couldn't stand to read. And for me this book just wasn't for me. That's my opinion. So, that's the point and SENSE of this thread. Thank you and I'm out.

message 21: by Cc (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cc Why we love Jesse! He NEVER physically harms Ava like Christian does throughout the books and Gideon does one night when he is out of control. Notwithstanding the millionaire sports/sex club owner theme, the basic premise is realistic...the hot boyfriend showing up on your night out with friends...going home for a night of passion...can't wait to meet him for lunch. And the second guessing yourself with your friends. Doesn't every relationship start that way. The way the guy is always too blind to see his women "friend" likes him and she tries to scare off the new girlfriend. And unless you married your first everyone contends with the past but in this book Ava is the young,
hot one. I thought the author did a Fantastic job, loved it, thought it was very funny. I love the interaction between Ava and Kate made me think of my friends.

LisaLisa Yeah, he's a douchenozzle. I mean, the asshole is an alcoholic who is blaming her for his falling off the wagon. Their relationship is beyond dysfunctional. As I said in my review, he needs AA and she needs AlAnon, and they both need therapy. Their relationship is ridiculously unhealthy. The series is rubbish.

message 24: by BEE (new) - rated it 2 stars

BEE Yes agree! I feel like punching Jesse face reading this.. (i know he's not real, but still hate him)

RedRedtheycallmeRed When I read romance "fiction", I want to read about characters that I like, not characters that I wish would get hit by a bus.

Jesse and Ava didn't have a single redeemable characteristic between them in the second book.

At least give me SOMEONE to root for!

I hope there is as much possessive behaviour as like the 1st 2
As it is only fiction...
Loved it!!

I agree...the thing with this series is that it had parts of it that made me laugh and Jesse was perfect in this book...he had his scars both outside and inside and he was so scared of losing the one person who made him feel again

I felt the same way.... books 1 and 2 were difficult at times to get through and frustrating to read BUT book 3 was great.... loved the way it all came together in the end!

❤️ Diana ❤️ I finished the series.....love love Jesse....yes he's possessive, but he knows it and after reading everything you know why......it's NOT because he's some asshole.....and he's funny as hell and you gotta love his arrogance....plus his variety of fucks were adtoinishing, those in itself makes this book worth reading, will put you on Central Jesse Cloud Nine instsntly....IMO his only flaw 4 F***ing Days.....end of.....lol

message 35: by Tony (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tony Well it seems to me that the formula is to have the last major Crisis after 85% that means 15% to wrap up any HEA or HFN so that's why they all race to the finish. Must be an industry standard or something.

how true...i cant even imagine how fucked up he is...and even after he has found ava...its not like he is showing any development....and ava is just plain dumb...in 50 shades christian had the sense to change his life after meeting the love of his life..and ana had enough self respect to not put up with his whippings...ava on the other hand ...is just a lost cause

Itsmebacshi agree, i find him creepy... his stalking and controlling tendency is not normal. seriously its alarming its like he own her soul or something.... id rather stalk by Christian Grey than Jesse

Tony But in This Man Confessed you find out what all his issues are. You find out Why he's an Asshole. And he does redeem himself in the end.
Not to mention his Awesome Degrees of Fucking.

Exactly... Thus why it's called a trilogy. Cos it's a "journey" of reveals & growth. Everything is not always gonna be spelled out for or make sense a lot of time to the reader, in books 1 or 2. And if the author does it justice, everything is always laid to rest properly in the final book. But on the flip side of that coin sometimes the character, plot, the way it's unfolding can be either boring, pointless, or so irritating to the reader that they just can't continue. So I do understand that as well.

But for me this trilogy was on point. Even though I had my moments as well but overall I think it was worth the read & I was more than happy with how it all came to a close.

Mochaspresso I feel that Ava bears some of the blame for his behavior. She seems to encourage it. I'm not sure if she is doing it knowingly because I also think she's a total nitwit.....but it seems to me that his need to control is partially fueled by the fact that she's always running away and avoiding his calls and hiding things. Then she sleeps with him and agrees to anything he asks during sex. Make no mistake, his behavior is completely unreasonable at times....but sleeping with him and making promises and then ignoring all of his calls the following day only makes it worse.

Danielle ⚾️ (Danielle's Escape) I miss you Jesse!

Ava is the most ludacrious person EVER! All of her actions are absurd. For whatever reason I got sucked in to this story and I read all 3 but neither one of them redeemed themselves in any capacity for me. In the last book- Ava's selfishness takes on a whole new meaning. And Jesse...well Jesse is coo coo for coco puffs.

message 47: by Amy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Amy Oh yes. Jesse has his issues but so does Ava. Jesse has bee hurt in many ways not only physically but emotionally. Some decisions that Jesse made in my opinion where not correct... but he truly loves Ava and gives up his main income source for her... :) Ava has her own issues

message 48: by Amy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Amy O.. no doubt that Jesse has his issue but he LOVES her in his CRAZY way. Ava is not innocent as she seems to be a pistol when needed. He does confess.. does not excuse him but it provides an understanding..

couldn't agree more i loved jesse and this man but the second book killed it for me the communal room scene at the party made him seem like a dirty old man and the whipping scene with sarah pissed me off big time. really hated the second book and anything to do with the manor ( it came across as a sleazy sex joint) i really gave up on the relationship in book 2

Tony @ Sarah.
There's a multitude of explanation and redemption in Book #3.
This Man Confessed.
I recommend it: you might end up liking them both.!!
