I am giving Maas the benefit of the doubt and I am sure she has a great master plan for the series. That being said, (view spoiler)[I just don't want the Arobynn story line to go unfinished especially with the ending of the fourth novella. I think I am a little worried that since this is book one in the series the novellas won't have as much weight in the future plot. That is probably a silly worry. Now when Maas addesses Arobynn again I will be all excited! (hide spoiler)] As for which "team" I am on...finish the book and then read this (view spoiler)[I really wish she could just have a guy for a friend instead of them all falling in love with her! I think Chaol could be a great best friend for her which she desperately needs. I was a little annoyed at how she just cut Dorian off. While I think she probably needs to process losing Sam and shouldn't really be seeing anyone I felt the scene was a bit abrupt or not timed right. (hide spoiler)]

Finished!! Eek! It was very good :) I agree with you (view spoiler)[ I didn't like the manner in which she ditched Dorian although I understood her reasons. She seemed very cold as if it was easy for her. Too easy. And she's all excited about being "free" but come on, four years of doing the king's bidding ain't free and I wouldn't be surprised if he finds a way to keep her as a slave longer or send her back to prison at the end of it. Now her loyalty is essential or he'll kill Chaol and Nehemia. Ugh, the situation is really bad if you ask me!

And I too am really hoping the old assassin story isn't over, that was my favorite part! All in all though, a really good read up there with Graceling for me! (hide spoiler)]

it is such a good book. the characters ad theme was also very good. (view spoiler)[ i loved it when she told the truth not caring about the cociquence in this cae with dorian. the concept of freedom, loyality, justice was the best in it. Chaoland his postion is now a big issue while the king is a cold hearted ass who is going to cause bigger isuues. i can't wait for the 2nd part. (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

This book was a slow starter for me; it took a little while for me to get my head around Celaena: is she a fearless assassin, a girly-girl obsessed with her appearance or a book worm? Being all three seemed a bit much, but after reading the whole book and the novellas, I'm OK with the idea now.

What I really loved was just how rich the back story is - Maas delves into a lot throughout ToG, but also hints that there's more to come and more lands to be described.

With regards to teams I'm pretty torn. (view spoiler)[ I'm kind of hoping Sam is somehow still alive. Although it's one of those series where I seemed to prefer whomever she is talking to at the time... Also, for anyone who has read the novellas - the masked boy who Celaena dances with in 'Underworld' - Dorian? And if so, what's the significance, if any? (hide spoiler)]

Oh wow, I forgot about that guy! Hmm I have no idea, that could be him! Yeah, the novellas made all the difference for me and I liked Celaena much more because of them :)

yeah i read 2 of them and they are really good.

I forgot about that guy too! It might have been significant then.
The novellas make you care about Celaena so much more and they are great reads. Graceling is a good comparison to Throne of Glass. I loved Katsa and Po and the idea of graces! Grave Mercy is also a wonderful assassin read. The main character is an assassin for death trained by nuns. What isn't there to like?

Yeah, the mystery guy I think most definitely was supposed to nudge at Dorian.

I am glad you guys liked the read! The part that (view spoiler)[haunts me the most is Arobynn and the death of Sam. I too secretly wish that he wasn't really dead, maybe it was faked. Sometimes, the twists and turns in an author's plan is always a great mystery. (hide spoiler)].

Arg. I liked this book a lot. I literally almost lost my mind when I discovered the sequel wasn't out yet.
But I went and bought the prequels, so that made me a little less crazy. :P

I know, right, so hard to wait for the sequel and I think the prequels made it even harder because they were soo awesome!

For some reason, the sequal was rated already, so I assumed it was out and I just couldn't find it :-P

Well, I'm extremely late reading this, but I finally got to it, and I LOVED IT!!! I haven't read all the novellas yet, although I caught some of the spoilers. I really need to read them!

(view spoiler)[ I was rooting for Chaol, he just seems more deep and able to protect Celaena more. Dorian just seems to into himself, although I think he does care for her. I didn't really like how she dumped him at the end, but I was kind of expecting it. I loved the Wyndmarks and all the magical elements, I was extremely happy to learn that the Princess was not evil! (hide spoiler)]

This made me think of Rae Carson's series that I LOVE, The Girl of Fire and Thorns , just in the style of writing. The comparison to Graceling is also good, loved Graceling!

Thanks! I know I should have read all the novellas first, but I was just too impatient lol! Didn't have enough $ on my book card to buy them, and I had my copy of Throne of Glass just sitting there...I had to read it!

Hmmm...I never would have made that connection. I guess the whole royalty and castle thing is the same...but there isn't much fantasy to the Selection.
