Chic Book Chick discussion
What are You reading Right Now?
I just finished Plum Spooky by Janet Evanovich. I love the whole series of Stephanie Plum books. They make me laugh.I'm currently reading Simply Shine--Stories That Stirred The Fire by Jill Blashack Strahan. She's the founder of Tastefully Simple and the book is so inspirational... the things this girl has been through. There are some awesome quotes in it that I have to add to my blog.
I just read a book by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (Christi suggested her books to me a while back). I finished it this morning in fact...Dream a Little Dream is the title. I liked it, but for a long time I didn't feel "attached" to the characters for some reason. However the last few chapters of the book had me hooked. I hope to track down The Girl She Used to Be in the next couple of days.
Kel..I have never read one of the "Plum" books...don't know how that is...eventually I'll get there...that other book sounds really goo too...
and Rita
I like SEP also..matter of fact I have one from Christi right still in my to be read pile..LOL..
Try Natural Born Charmer..that's a good one by her too

Amy, you definitely have to read those books. They are quick reads and have humor, mystery, and some romance....all my favorite stuff!
I just finished "My Jim" by Nancy Rawles. It was the other side of Huck Finn's friend Jim's story. Getting in the mood for baseball season and just started "The Yankee Years" by Joe Torre. The Janet E. books are very fun reads Amy, do check them out!
I love the Stephanie Plum books -- although I've tried to read Book One twice and couldn't get through it either time. I'd suggest starting with three or four; that's when the series hit its stride, I think.Me, I'm finishing up Dead Exes, by Harley Jane Kozak. I'm going to see her as part of a dinner at my local indie bookstore on Tuesday and I have about 85 pages left to go...
Ok Ok..LOL..I'll get to the library for Plum!! I'm starting Girls In Trucks by Katie Crouch, and I'm also reading three Self Help Books that I'll be posting tomorrow
I'm in the middle of reading The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger... I'm only about 1/3 through with it, but I can already tell that it is going to be a fave to re-read again soon ;)
OMG I LOVE that book ...did you know it's going to be a movie..it's supposed to come out in August...Rachel MacAdams is Claire and Eric (yummy) Bana is playing Henry...I CANNOT WAIT!!
I have it on Mt. TBR (that's Mount To-Be-Read. Yes, MOUNTAIN) and should start it soon... I want to read Girls in Trucks, Amy. Let us know how it is!

Oh my!!! I didn't know! Thanks for the info! I love both those actors - it should be really well played out :)

I've had that book for ages and have never gotten around to reading it, I should make that one of my next ones so I can see the movie. I love both of those actors!
Kelly, I would say you definitely want to read it before the movie comes out...
Welcome Colleen and thanks for joining! I will go check out Darling Jim....I haven't heard anything about that one!

Well, I'm in a mess and have several reviews due up this month. I'm reading Boneman's Daughters, Four Corners of the Sky, Fault Line and listening to The Whole Truth. It'll be a crazy month for me!
I just read that Janet Evanovich has the next Stephanie Plum book coming out...."Finger Lickin' Fifteen". LOL I can't wait to read it. It's being released June 23
Apparently EVERYONE is reading Janet..LOL
I reading All of Me by Lori Wilde...
I feel another giveaway coming on...

Yep, everyone reads Stephanie Plum (I'm not a fan of Evanovich's other series; has anyone else tried it?). It's really madcap, goofy, silly fun. And two sexy men, too -- can't beat that!I am reading a George RR Martin tome (over 1000 pages!) to take on our trip with us. It's the second in his Arthurian-themed series. I figure I can share it with the Tour Manager.
Everyone in my library reads Stephenie Plum too... in fact, I better get my name on the waitlist now or it will be October before I get my hands on the book.
I just finished the Book Thief by Markus Zusak and I just started California Demon by Julie Kenner just because it was on my book shelf. Need to get to the library or bookstore to get the books on the list here.Maybe it's just me, but I checked out the first Stephanie Plum book from the library and returned it without finishing it. I read a few chapters, but it just didn't do much for me. They are so popular, I was hoping to really like it. Maybe I just too high of expectations. Not sure. Maybe they get better. Don't know. I saw that Susan said to try starting with 3 or 4. Maybe I'll try again. I just didn't like the first one. It wasn't well-written and it didn't catch my interest from the beginning.
I've gotten several suggestions to start later in the series as well..I'm going to try to get to the big library tomorrow and see what I can find...
Just read The Resort by Bentley Little. Although the writing was good, I thought the story as a whole was average.
Just finished 'The Book of Negroes' by Lawrence Hill for my book club - absolutely excellent literary fiction, but not a light read. Highly recommend. Also an ARC of 'Darkborn' by Alison Sinclair - excellent dark fantasy. Also highly recommend.
And in the lighter reading department (I always have at least three books going on at the same time) - 'Practice Makes Perfect' by Julie James. Shaping up nicely, and right on target with Chickie Books!
I've given up on One for the Money TWICE now. Just move on in the Plum series.... I am LOVING this George RR Martin book. It's not for everyone; it's set in the days of kings and intrigue in England, when people didn't bathe and they cut each other's heads off when they got angry at each other. But it's wholly absorbing, even on a bumpy airplane!
I am reading The Girl She Used to be AND the 5000 Year Leap AND Night Embrace. I don't usually read more than one book at a time. It's too confusing but I have two book clubs and I am hooked on the Dark Hunter series.I love that Mountain To be read thing. That sounds familiar.
I also loved The Time Traveler's Wife. I gave my copy to my dd to read. She couldn't even finish it. She gave it to a friend. I am like, YOU ARE KIDDING ME! How could you NOT like that book?
It'll be interesting to see how it works as a film.
You ladies who can read more than one book at a time are amazing to me...I am though "listening" to "My Life on a Plate" by India Knight (my first audio) and it's pretty funny..liking it so far..I'm starting Stakes and Stilettos today and reviewing a fave by another author for a post later this week...
About the Time Traveller's Wife, here's the thing..I had to get about 50 pages or so before I started to like it and shortly after that I was totally hooked, even though it didn't "grab" me from the first..I totally loved it...maybe your daughter just didn't get far enough..LOL

Oh and I think I said this somewhere already but I can't remember..if you love the dark hunter series you have to read Acheron..it's the best one..and really totally stands on it's own apart from the series as well..

What a stunningly beautiful book!! I LOVED it. I have read it two times, and listened to the audiobook several times. I think that someone should set up a Time Traveler's Wife tour in Chicago...
In regards to the Stephanie Plum series, I would say read them all. The first two are not as crazy funny as the later ones, but I found that the build up of funny intensity was good for me. I think if I had started with book 3 or 4, I would not have continued reading the series. (You know how sometimes comedy can be over the top....like Jim Carrey...)

That would be wonderful!
I really am looking forward to re-reading this book! It really touched me in so many ways...

I'm almost done with "Girl" and "the Lace Reader" my library book group selection. I'll be ready in a day or two to start "Agnes" as soon as it's in at the library.
Am I the only one who didn't totally love The Time Travelers Wife? I liked a lot about it, but then I totally disagreed with its ideas about love...
I just finished "Wishful Drinking" by Carrie Fisher. It was super light but really good... next up I think I'm going to re-read Lois McMaster Bujold's "Vorkosigan" series. They're sci fi, but the first one especially (Cordelia's Honor) is definitely a romance... and not like most sci fi romances that are just exactly the same except with spaceships!

I just finished an ARC of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane- absolutely fabulous! I highly recommend adding it to your TBR pile...My review of it is here:
Streetcorner Library
Philippa, I've heard that. I'm doing my best, but the new Colette Gale is calling to me... can't you hear it?I shall stick with it.... I shall. Colette can wait, no matter how loud her siren call.
I am in the middle of Savannah Blues by Mary Kay Andrews. It is slow going for me. I am hoping the storyline will pick up a bit.
I finished Time-Traveler. A lot to like, but I didn't love it. Now I'm reading Lady Anne and the Howl in the Dark before tackling my book club book.
Ooh, Darkly Dreaming Dexter is in my TBR pile. I just finished Brooklyn by Colm Toibin (excellent though sad) and Mercury in Retrograde by Paula Froelich (very enjoyable chicklit)- recommend them both.
Colleen, Darkly Dreaming Dexter was a great book (IMO)! I just picked up the next two in the series from the library. I am currently reading Rusty Nail by J.A. Konrath. It is the third book in a series. So far they are good reads.
