Yeah, but Valerie said 2013, aren't you talking about 2014? I'm pretty sure we know who the fastest reader is...
I'm up to 47 now, most of which I had not read before discovering this group.

There's a bunch of books in the list that don't interest me that much for example The Game of Thrones (I gave the first book a try, but it was boring as hell so I quited it) and World War Z (I hate zombies). Also some books are bit hard to get around here, since I don't (and won't) own an e-reader and the libraries usually don't buy "unknownish" books in their collections, because they're not translated and books in English are bought based on their estimated popularity within people who read them. So that's why I'm not going to read all the list books, but I think I'd get over 50 books read someday.

Don't forget it works both ways - we are currently reading The Carpet Makers by Andreas Eschbach, most of us (I think) in the discussion can only read this because it has been translated to English. Many other of his books have not been translated, and so they are inaccessible to those who don't speak German. I assume translation also works by "interest" or "demand", and "unknownish" books in languages other than English would not show up in English-speaking libraries either.
And worse, from my own experience, there are myriad pockets within the United States with libraries that hardly acknowledge sci-fi/fantasy at all, and so unless you have ready access to money and internet, you are restricted by what your local librarian thinks is popular, or acceptable...

That's why we're now limited to Finnish (online) bookstores, which ain't that cheap (though sometimes you can make a good deal out of some books), but you get postals usually free of charge (atleast in Adlibris, which has the best variety of books in here, though Akateeminen kirjakauppa is also good).

Try bookdepository.com. Free shipping to over 100 countries, including Finland.

And Kim, thanks for the suggestion of bookdepository.com! I'm also from Finland and suffering from the same problem as Maarit with libraries and books in English. I usually end up having to buy the books I want to read, but I'm a student and poor, so it's not an option all the time, especially with stupidly high postals...

And Kim, thanks for the suggestio..."
Cami, if you have an electronic reader or a smartphone or tablet device, you can get books at reduced prices from print versions as well as having a way to keep several in an easy to transport format. Carpet Makers for example is available from Barnes and Noble on their Nook device for $ 7.99 USD. Just an idea / suggestion.

A Game of Thrones
Ender's Game
Fahrenheit 451
A Clash of Kings
Mistborn
Slaughterhouse-Five
Assassin's Apprentice
The Princess Bride
The Graveyard Book
The Lies of Locke Lamora
Gardens of the Moon
Brave New World
The Name of the Wind
The Ocean at the End of the Lane
The Hobbit
Warbreaker
Eon
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
White Cat
So that's 19 I think. I'm currently reading The Fellowship of the Ring and then another 13 or 14 are on my to read list.

Kim, any chance of sorting the list out for us, I certainly use it to keep a running total of how many club books I've managed.
Thanks.

Kim, I did notice that you can click on who voted for Harry Potter #6 or whatever, and see that person's entire voting list. It might make tracking down which books to delete a bit faster.

Ha! Good one!

I read a lot of science fition growing up with my favorite authors including Isaac Asimov, Martin Caidin, SirArthur C. Clarke,..."
I love the detail of your list, Richard. Good stuff. I think it's such a great treat that we can track our reading like this because of Goodreads.

I'm starting to appreciate that approach, actually. With all of the ratings and reviews at my fingertips - and the ability to check reviewer compatibilities - I am much better at picking 4 and 5 star books now. Gone are the days of reading books based on recommendations of friends and family even when their interests are nothing like my own! 3 star books are "fine", but life's too short!

It looks like 17 books in that list I've read. The book I'm reading now is in the list, so soon to be 18.

How do you like A Song of Ice and Fire? Personally, I loved that serial!

The process is described in more detail if you click on the “everything you need to know” link in the introductory text at the top of the group home page.
