Jan VL (jane_a) | 167 comments I donno if this has been said already, but I really hate it when some authors mess up the names which then messes up the flow of the story and makes me uber confused about who says/does what.

Do you mean actually getting the names wrong? Or is it the all-too common case of too many pronouns—he, his, him?

Haha...me too!

@Roger...for me it's getting the names wrong like John said to John. Is John talking to himself? Or like in one paragraph the guys name is Sam and in the next it's Bill but it's supposed to be Sam throws me right off. LOL

message 604: by Jan VL (last edited Jul 09, 2013 03:20AM) (new)

Jan VL (jane_a) | 167 comments Yes exactly what Monika said! Actually getting the name wrong!
Say there are two MCs, John and David. David is talking to his mom alone and then suddenly it says "John looked up at his mom"
Totally confuses me!

message 605: by Monika (new)

Monika | 2175 comments Haha you said it better Jane I was trying to figure out how to explain......my excuse, it's 3:25 am and I should be sleeping. :-P

message 606: by Jan VL (new)

Jan VL (jane_a) | 167 comments Hahaha that is so weird cuz here it's already 12:31, nearly lunch time xD

message 607: by Monika (new)

Monika | 2175 comments Don't you just love time zones?! :-D

message 608: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments I find it really confusing when an author refuses to use conversation tags so that I lose track of who's speaking and it doesn't matter what genre either. If I have to track back up the page to figure who started first, that's a waste of my time and energy.

Getting names wrong, within the same sentence even, is also very annoying and a sign of poor editing (or no editing for some of the self-published stuff).

message 609: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments That's just crap writing, then! :))

message 610: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments Yep. Unfortunately, it's a spreading disease.

message 611: by Fangtasia (new)

Fangtasia And so easy to catch! I beta-read and find it real easy.

message 612: by Cricket (new)

Cricket (cricketspargur) | 1 comments I actually saw "man pussy" in a book I recently tried to read. I just couldn't finish it. I didn't even make it past the first chapter.

message 613: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments That's a definite turn off!

message 614: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Oh that's sick.

message 615: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments OMG ... I'll have to completely rewrite all of Mississippi Hustler now :::sob:::

message 616: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments … >very quietly< is "boy pussy" okay?

please

Monika | 2175 comments Roger wrote: "… >very quietly< is "boy pussy" okay?

Ummm....NO!

message 618: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments To be honest, I personally find the word rather offensive.

Preston | 20148 comments Roger wrote: "… >very quietly< is "boy pussy" okay?..."

Only if you are British and talking about a male kitten.

message 620: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments That's what I meant…

Good one Preston, wish I thought of that! Lol

message 622: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments :::sigh::: It's obvious when you know! I'm sure when I was little and I asked my mom if I could have a boy pussy, I'm sure she didn't think I was requesting a sex change op, that I meant anything other than a kitten tomcat. Did she?

message 623: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Come to think of it, Ian Fleming was never subtle, was he? James Bond loved Pussy Galore.

message 624: by Alexa (new)

Alexa Land | 69 comments LOL I was going to contribute to this discussion, but where does one go after "man pussy"....

Well, to get a shower maybe. :D

message 625: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments LOL Good plan!

message 626: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Godammit! Back to the cliché bank… :::mutter, moan:::

message 627: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Why don't they say man puppy?

message 628: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Isn't that a contradiction: man = grown up; puppy = baby. Just sayin'

message 629: by Akhil (new)

Akhil Kang Did't Kesha already come up with Mangina?

message 630: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Akhil is such a gorgeous hunk of man I don't care about any M/M romance but a HEA with him.

message 631: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Akhil has access to a Higher Educational Authority…?

message 632: by Akhil (new)

Akhil Kang Preston, only if the guys I hit on thought so too.
Haha Roger, Sure, if you put it that way...

message 633: by Therese (new)

Therese I really hate when there is sucking and licking of Adam's apples. No idea why, but it creeps me out.

I also hate the whole "Tom's cock was maybe a bit shorter than Dave's , but more substantial".
I'm all for fairness, but can't they just both be huge?

message 634: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Therese wrote: "I really hate when there is sucking and licking of Adam's apples. No idea why, but it creeps me out.

I Agree. Let every cock be huge and sucking adam's apples should be banned. We have better places to suck. Ear lobes and nipples for example.

message 635: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Preston wrote: "Ear lobes and nipples for example. ..."

Fore example…?

Preston | 20148 comments Roger wrote: "Preston wrote: "Ear lobes and nipples for example. ..."Fore example…?"

If you want to provide other examples please do :-)

message 637: by Therese (new)

Therese Fore...finger? Fingers can be sexy...*innocent look*.

Preston | 20148 comments Therese wrote: "Fore...finger? Fingers can be sexy...*innocent look*."

Therese you look too innocent to being sexing up fingers.

message 640: by Therese (new)

Therese Preston wrote: "Therese you look too innocent to being sexing up fingers."

I used to be...
Once upon a time my literary world was filled with sweet, pretty and pure virgins (much like myself) seduced by handsome dukes.

Then I entered the realm of M/M romance. Spankings, expanding dildos, CBT, Ogre-cocks, tentacle-sex, what have ye not (although, for the record, this is not an official complaint!)

message 641: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments I always knew M/M Romance was disgusting ;-))

message 642: by Preston, Moderator (new)

Preston | 20148 comments Therese wrote: "…Spankings, expanding dildos, CBT, Ogre-cocks, tentacle-sex, what have ye not…"

Roger, why haven't you put any of this M/M Romance stuff in your Gay Romance Fiction books or did you put it all in your The Complete Chronicle Of The Emperors Of Rome?

message 643: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments I did up the ante on the paperback reprint regarding Trajan's boy preference (actually young military types, he wasn't like Hadrian who preferred his lads much younger). The original hardback edition didn't mention anything about Trajan's sexual peccadillos.

Gosh, that was a serious reply!

message 644: by Akhil (new)

Akhil Kang Expanding dildos and Ogre cocks are not THAT bad

message 645: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments No, no, no. Not that bad!

message 646: by Therese (new)

Therese Roger wrote: "No, no, no. Not that bad!"

Oh come on, don't knock it till you try it....:-P. You might have an epiphany after all these years of reading plain gay fiction;-).

message 647: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Plain gay fiction?

message 648: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. (fuzzipueo) | 2809 comments Roger wrote: "
Plain
gay fiction?"

I've never come across Plain Gay Fiction. Is that a new genre or something? >curious<

message 649: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments It's an antidote to Gay Pulp Fiction like Mississippi Hustler… ;-)
