Safe Haven
question
Read the book first? Or watch the movie first?
A lot of people were saying to read the book first, but I disagree. I've always found that the books seem to be better than the movies and in this case, the book blew the movie out of the water. The book had so much more detail than the movie. The movie showed none of her life before she left to go to Southport and her life before was a very big detail in the book. If you feel that you will have no motivation to read the book after you watch the movie then please read the book first because it is an amazing book. But if you know you will read the book either way then watch the movie first! Yes, it will ruin the end of the book for you, BUT if you read the book first then you will not be impressed with the movie. If you watch the movie first then you will be able to fully enjoy it rather than reading the book then looking for all of the important details that were missed out in the movie. Most books that have movies that I have read are much better than their movie and when i read the book first i just seem to be upset with the movie, but when I watch the movie first a lot of the time the movie seems really great.
I read the book before I watched the movie. After I watched the movie, I was in shock. It was nothing like the book. The book was WAY better.
I have read the book first and then I saw the movie.I think the movie wasn't good at all.The story in the book is more fascinating.
I saw The Notebook with a friend who had read the book & all through the movie she kept saying things like "that didn't happen in the book!" Etc., it was so annoying. I realized then & there that they can NEVER put everything from a Book into a 2 hour movie. So I try to always see the Movie first, cause if I Like the Movie, I will LOVE the Book! it just adds more to it. If you read the Book first, you will always be disappointed by the Movie. I know I disagree with a lot of people on this! But I'm right! :)
Read the book first. There is more background and justification for the husbands actions. Also you will understand the role of the neighbor.
Read the book first, the movie had a lot of missed or different information
I read the book first and as usual the book is so much better than the movie.
If you want to enjoy any movie that is based on a Nicholas Sparks book, you should see the movie first. After reading the books, you will be disappointed in the movies.
It's funny because this was asked on a site ABOUT BOOKS. But anyway, always read the book first. It is what the author intended for people to know about the story, then they were lucky enough to get a motion picture made out of their book. In my opinion, Safe Haven (book) is WAY better than the movie.
for me I'm glad I saw the movie first, both were great but the cast in the film made the characters in the book come alive more
read the book first so you know what's going on in the movie and can fill in the blanks
I read the book, but I haven't had the chance to see the movie yet. I "experiment" with this with The Last Song and A Walk To Remember. For The Last Song I watched the movie first. When I finally got the book, there were certain things I expected to happen (ie. the aquarium date). For A Walk To Remember, I read the book first (in three days). When I saw the movie, I wasn't focused on the contrast between the two. I just made sure I didn't miss anything that happened. I prefer to read first, because the movie isn't as long and your mind is too occupied by observing. You can reread the book anytime. You can't rewind at the theater.
In this case I saw the movies first and I am glad I did. But that is not the case with all books.
Currently im reading this book and i have also downloaded its movie but i will only watch it after I finish reading, from my past experiences books are way better than the movies.
There have been somethings I have read the book first and some I haven't. I do recommend to read the book first but also reading the book afterwards is just fine.
Please read the book first! I did so and then watched the movie. It was really disappointing like the others said!
In the book she is shy and anxious so you believe her and think like her!
And in the movie she was friendly and kind from the beginning. She started easily to talk with Alex and the others. And that's what I hate about the movie.

I didn't read the book, i just watched the movie. It was great! but i think you should read the book, we all know that movies have some information changed, Feelings that you won't be able to understand and besides, you can always predict the movie. The Book Is Always Real! :)
I read the book. Then I discovered that they made a movie. I didn't think the movie was bad.
Of course, the book. A movie can never ever justify with the characters in the manner a book does
In this case definately read the book.
It will make all the difference. If you see the movie and then read the story is anticlimatic.
It was a quick read...enjoy it :)

i would read the book first. As stated above the book has so much more to offer than the movie. You will be disappointed if you watch the movie first. Compared to the book, the movie is weak. Where nicholas sparks books are concerned its always better to read the book first. Alot of time there is so much detail left out of the movies that when you finally read the book you will be like oh that wasnt in the movie neither was that type thing.
Hello...I think you should watch the movie first. I watched the movie first and while reading the book it helped me to understand what was going on. Also, the book gets more in depth about her past vs. the movie. I loved that book and I would recommend it to everyone. I hope you take time to review my comment and WATCH THE MOVIE FIRST!!!

Read the book about a year or two before the movie came out and liked it up until I found out Jo was a ghost, but with that said I loved the movie. I liked the chemistry between the main actors. The only thing I didn't like about the film was when Katie was about to get on the ferry and Alex went after her. I felt like she gave in too easily.
Definitely read the book first. The storyline is much clearer in the book. The only problem is that you will already know the "twists" when you watch the movie.
Ugh! I HATED the movie compared to the book (duh, right?) I felt like the movie left a lot out, and mixed up quite a bit of the book. Was I the only one who didn't think there was much chemistry between "Katie" and "Alex" in the movie?
READ THE BOOK and then watch the movie... THEN BE DISAPPOINTED ABOUT HOW BADLY DIFFERENT THE MOVIE IS FROM THE BOOK! the book was AWESOMELY written then here comes the movie, ruining everything .. I don't hate the movie but it could have been better if they stick on the book plot instead making any twists or editions... It didn't give the book a JUSTICE.
Personally, I'd watch the movie first, because that's what I did and the movie only makes the book look better.
Please read the book first! There is more details that would be helpful for you while watching the movie! I loved both!
Personally,I always prefer to read the book first as I yet have to see a movie better than its corresponding novel.Saying that, the Safe Haven movie was very good but the book is more descriptive and has more detail and at least if youre disappointed after watching the movie, youll know the book is great!
Nine times out of ten, the book is better. I thoroughly enjoyed both the book and the movie, but I am much happier that I read the book first before I saw the movie. Yes, there are going to be differences, but the book was much better and more informative, I feel like I would have been lost on a few things if I had saw the movie first. So I will always vote, book first! Hope you enjoy both :)
I try to read the book first. It usually gives me a better understanding of the movie. The book can give more background on the characters that can't usually be put in movie.
I read the book first and the movie it kinda disappointment for me.
I watched the movie first because I wasn't really into reading when it came out. I read the book afterward and it was different knowing the changes from book vs movie. I thought both were good.
I have mixed feeling about it. Usually I read the book first. However, sometimes I think seeing the movie would be better because if I have read the book I compare and am not satisfied with the movie.
I would say read the books always, because that is my motto, but however if you go see the movie after the book. It's kind of disappointing. I went with my mom to see the movie and she had not read the book, but like the movie.
I was tempted to see the movie first but I'm glad I didn't. I just finished reading the book and now I'm ready to see the movie!
Personally I always read the book first, I've been stung with dreadful adaptations once to often - for those who have read Flowers in the Attic and seen the film i'm sure you'll agree that the screenwriter would have done well to read the book at least once before starting the movie!!!

I read the book first. If anything, after seeing the movie, I thought that it was a condensed version of the book. The book was much better.
Skip the movie all together. Just read the book. Movie was a disappointment. Too much information changed
