There is no justification for abuse!!!
I read the book and enjoyed it so much. I think I read it over night.
I agree with Frans. Reading the book first helped me better understand the role of the neighbor. Also, the book gives more background information about the abuse the main character suffers in the beginning prior to making her escape.
