Susan (nrlymrtl) | 110 comments This week's questions cover Chapters 7-11. Yes, there are spoilers in the Qs. Feel free to discuss here or join us in the blogosphere: http://www.onstarshipsanddragonwings....

1. What do you think of the potential dark prophecy the Halfman wrote on the wall? Do you think it is a prophecy or a taunt?

2. We finally got to find out more of Rand's birth and Tam's history. Did it meet your predictions/expectations? What did you think?

3. Oo lala, Lan gave Nynaeve a ring! How are you liking the development of this romance?

4. Rand kept feeling a pair of eyes on him and given that someone shot an arrow in his vicinity, it might not be unfounded paranoia. Who/what do you think is watching him?

5. Poor Domon! What do you think of the trouble he has gotten himself into with the heartstone? Are you happy that it seems Domon will be integrated back into the story?

6. What did you think of Mat and Perrin's reaction to Rand telling them about his channeling? Anyone else feel like they need a pamphlet in supporting your friend through difficult times?

Mat and Perin's reaction broke my heart. The bond between those three seems irrevocably shattered, just when Rand most needs his friends. But while the former can return to some semblance of what life was like before, Rand can NEVER truly return to that innocent shepherd he used to be. Perhaps a clean break is best, because their capacity to adapt to his new circumstances is limited at best, and he can't risk harming them.

Yeah, I was wondering if the 3 might go separate ways for a while. Hopefully they will always be on speaking terms, maybe even patch things up. We'll have to see.

I think if one is in trouble, the others won't be far behind. But I think their time as kindred spirits, as almost-brothers, has come to an end...

As for Domon, his reappearance in Book 2 of the series was, for me, sudden, jarring, and not entirely coherent. I can't go further than that, as I'm on Chapter 25, and saying more might constitute a spoiler :)

I was excited to see Domon returned as he left Book 1 with so many questions - such as why he thought the trollocs were after him. Now that has been answered, at least in part, I am enjoying his presence in Book 2.

Frank Vaisey | 10 comments I've recently read this series again to get ready for the release of . #rd time for this book, unfortunately I often forget which book any particular action belongs in which book so I'll try not to spoil anything if there are 1st time readers here.

I had been waiting for Lan and Nynaeve to fall in love since she tracked him down in the eye of the world. He is just what she needs.

Given the way that everyone feels about men who can channel I think that Mat and Perrin reacted pretty mildly. They KNOW he will go crazy, that he has the power to kill them just by accident. I felt that they were more upset because they felt he was getting big headed.

I always liked Domon, he seems very upright for a smuggler and very tough and capable.

Often characters will speak about feeling someone watching them, they're usually right. I think this is the first of many close calls for Rand.

Hi Frank, thanks for joining us. I think Lan and Nynaeve are good for each other too - but I worry all this angsty teenage first love stuff may drive a wedge between them.

First of many close calls for Rand? hehe! More fun for me as the reader. Not that I want him to lose his head or anything - just come close.

I think Lan and Nynaeve are soulmates. The aggression and the stubbornness in both of them is dissipated when they are together. I get the sense that they will fight for each other if their bond is tested. However, I fear that Nynaeve's fierce jealousy of Moiraine will get in the way...

Susan et al, you have a wonderful scene to look forward to later in the book where Nynaeve envisions a happy future with Lan. I won't spoil the context, but it's absolutely fascinating!

Hi Jennifer! Thanks for the insight and the hint of the future scene. I am enjoying sharing this book through the read along quite a bit.

Do you think Nynaeve will string the ring on a thong around her neck like a highschool sweetheart?

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Not sure (LOL) but I hope for more confrontation between the "rivals" for Lan's affections. I am more and more convinced that Nynaeve seeks to become an Aes Sedai for the wrong reasons...you will understand why I think this when she and Egwene

***spoiler alert***

reach Tar Valon and Nynaeve's true motivations begin to emerge.

Frank Vaisey | 10 comments Whatever Nynaeve's reason for wanting to become Aes Sedai I always felt she was very fitted to become one. She certainly doesn't need to learn confidence.

Egwene almost seems a minor character at this point. Do you think she'll play a bigger part in the story later on? Can you imagine being expected to marry a man who can channel?

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Egwene is such a stabilizing force in Rand's life, in a way Mat and Perrin can't be. But events are compelling them to take divergent paths. I hope Rand will be able to come "home" to her soon, even if they cannot be together in the way they thought they would be.

Knowing this is a 14 book series, I am pretty sure Egwene will play a bigger part later on. I am not sure if she will ever be intimate with Rand tho. Seems like they might be destined to live in platonic, yearning love for the entire series.

The title of the last book seems prophetic. A Memory of Light...does this mean the characters will have lost everything they value, everything that matters, to fight a darkness that befalls them anyway? We shall see.

Maybe it's the memory of light that pulls them through the darkness to conquer evil! OK - that sounds like a line from a movie trailer.

Well, i plan to finish the series, so we shall find out.
