Nasir ibn James (ibnjames) | 5 comments If March is Divergent, April could be Insurgent.

message 3: by palina (new)

palina Well if a lot of people end up liking the John Green book, which they probably will, maybe we could read Looking for Alaska.
Some other books that I've been wanting to read though that could be one of the options could be Graceling, Across the Universe, Warm Bodies and Daughter of Smoke and Bone

message 4: by Daphne (new)

Daphne Dresselaers (daphneleest) I was also thinking Insurgent since we'll be reading Divergent (although I probably won't wait till april haha). The Casual Vacancy would get my vote as well

message 20: by Madeline (new)

Madeline (madeline_stone) Hey everyone!

I'm new to this group so I'm not exactly sure how this works but I have a couple books I'd like to suggest!

One is called "On the Jellicoe Road" (although it is called "Jellicoe Road" in the States)On the Jellicoe Road . It is one of my all time favorite books.

Also I would like to suggest a book called "LoveStar". It is by an Icelandic author and was recentely translated into English. It is one of those books that will stick with you for a very long time. LoveStar: A Novel

I hope my links worked, like I said I'm new!

message 21: by Lee (new)

Lee (leewilson) | 1 comments Hi there, this might be a little uncouth, but I'll toss my book out for consideration (for April or later). It's The Last Hybrid: Bloodline of Angels and it launches this month. Information on the book is at http://www.TheLastHybrid.com.

Thanks.

Sher Marie (yoga_girl2) The Valley of Unknowing
by Philip Sington

“Remarkable…Superbly anchored in place and time…[A] brilliant, evocative and accurate novel.” —The Times (London)

In the twilight years of Communist East Germany, Bruno Krug, author of a single world-famous novel written twenty years earlier, falls for Theresa Aden, a music student from the West. But Theresa has also caught the eye of a cocky young scriptwriter who delights in satirizing Krug’s work.

Asked to appraise a mysterious manuscript, Bruno is disturbed to find that the author is none other than his rival. Disconcertingly, the book is good—very good. But there is hope for the older man: the unwelcome masterpiece is dangerously political. Krug decides that if his affair with Theresa is to prove more than a fling, he must employ a small deception. But in the Workers’ and Peasants’ State, knowing the deceiver from the deceived, the betrayer from the betrayed, isn’t just difficult: it can be a matter of life and death.

This subtle, brilliantly plotted story will remind many readers of von Donnersmarck’s Oscar-winning film The Lives of Others.(less)The Valley of Unknowing
