Books on the Nightstand discussion
What are you reading March 2013
This morning, I just started The Silver Linings Playbook for book club. Then the rest of the month will probably be taken up with reading my 2013 Challenge books:Oldest TBR (2009): Downtown Owl
Oldest TBR on my bookshelf: The Time It Snowed in Puerto Rico
Book with the month's number in it: Three Stages of Amazement: A Novel
Newly published in current month: A Thousand Pardons
Random: Office Girl
Booktopia: Safe from the Neighbors, The End of California, The Last Summer of the Camperdowns, A Ticket to Ride: A Novel, Like Family: Growing Up in Other People's Houses: A Memoir
If I am any extra time (HA!), Flight Behavior is next on my list. And I am listening to The Roots of the Olive Tree on Audible (pretty slow/boring so far...).
Still reading A Wild Sheep Chase (although I'm struggling a bit because it's not a good one to read right before bed, too wackadoo and I don't remember what's going on after). I'll probably have to put it down for now because we're reading Flashback for book club on Wednesday, and I haven't started yet!
I've been on a Revolutionary War kick. Reading Endowed by Our Creator: The Birth of Religious Freedom in America, which is fairly heavy going but also very enlightening. Listening to 1776--really enjoying it.
I just began Sweet Tooth by Ian McEwan and Where She Went by Gayle Forman. After that maybe When Will There Be Good News? by Kate Atkinson.
As part of my 'all' challenge I am rereading the Thursday Next series. The Eyre Affair was a delight as always and Lost in a Good Book is even funnier on a reread. I had forgotten about Miss Havisham!
I have a long list of books on my coffee table just yearning to be read and from there I have chosen to read The Girl Below by Bianca Zander (I'm halfway through), Two Brothers by Ben Elton, How To Eat A Cupcake by Meg Donohue, The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe, and Dogstar Rising-A Makana Mystery by Parker Bilal. Some are recommendations, some personal choices and some I will review.
However I am sure it will take me longer than March to read all of these books as they are mostly lengthy ones. Yet I am enjoying my reading experience by mixing it up whenever I can with other books along the way, which I'm sure, will also be great books!
UPDATE- Finished reading The Girl Below by Bianca Zander & How To Eat A Cupcake by Meg Donohue (Thumbs up!) , halfway through The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe, am reading The Unfinished Journals of Elizabeth D,will read The Dog Stars by Peter Heller
UPDATE- I finished reading The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe-it made me cry :(

I am just in just finishing up Inside by Alix Ohlin. Flight Behavior is on my bedside table anxiously waiting for me to get started! On my Kobo I'll be reading The Day the Falls Stood Still and The Girl Who chased the Moon.
I just finished Enchanted Night by Steven Millhauser. I began The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro yesteday. I do enjoy art theft mysteries.
I just started Gone Girl. I also will be reading Trapeze for book group. I'm listening to book two of the North and South Trilogy Love and War and about to start listening to Beautiful Ruins.

Gerald, I know I'm not Monique, but...
1. Just above your comment box where you type, on the right, it says "add/book/author.
2. If you click on that, a box opens.
3. At the bottom of the are choices to click - either link or cover.
4. If you click on link, you will get a brownish link to the book once you finish your search for a title.
5. If you click on cover, you will get the cover of the book you are searching for.

Just starting The Land of Decoration
by Grace McLeen for book group. I loved the podcast on book group books as I just started this one and I'm hoping it will gel and become a self perpetuating entity. We'll see...
New here, but just finished When She Woke
after hearing about it quite a while ago on the podcast. Seriously the first book in ages that I simply couldn't put down. I started it last night and finished this evening (thank goodness for spring break). Still in the process of reading Drop Dead Healthy: One Man's Humble Quest for Bodily Perfection
for something a bit lighter!

Reading The Giver. I have read this book before, but its been about 20 years since I read it (yes I am that old that I was alive when it came out). I think the first time I had read the book because I had read Number the Stars by her and really enjoyed that read. Wasn't a fan of it the first time around, but am actually kinda liking it the second time around.
Melissa wrote: "Listening to The End of the Affair by Graham Greene, read by Colin Firth. Delicious!"This must be a Graham Greene month. I have just started The Quiet American.
I went to my local library and ended up with an armful of express books which basically means that I have 14 days to read them all. Overly ambitious? Optimistic? Delusional? I started A. Porter's In Between Days and since I work at a college, it's keeping my attention.
Bookclub #1 - Bright Young Things by Scarlett ThomasBookclub #2 - Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult
Man Booker shortlists archive- Impossible Object by Nicholas Moseley

Almost finished "Player One" by Douglas Coupland - Interesting - strange - end of the worldish - His observations about being human and the thoughts and fears of being human are interesting - Enjoyed it so far ... bout 10 pages left to read - Then Im starting The Concert Ticket by Olga Grushin for my book group - Not 100% sure about it having read the blurb but we will see :)
I'm listening to The Round House on CD in my car.I'm reading The Name of This Book Is Secret on my kindle at lunch.
I'm reading Code Name Verity (an actual book book) in my bed at night.
And I just picked up Tenth of December: Stories from the library.
Just finished Tenth of December - did not like it much.(Yes, I know everyone thinks it is genius.)Reading The Dinner which is v. good so far. Listening to one of the Temeraire dragon fantasy novels in the RV on a long drive - this is not one of the best ones but all of them are charming and Simon Vance is my favorite reader.
Gina,I did enjoy The Art Forger. I liked the fictionalization of the Gardner theft.
Sarah
Now I am reading The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
and a children's chapter book (I teach 4th grade) by Charles de Lint.

Did we ever get that episode on "older" titles? I know the topic of "new book fatigue" was discussed for awhile. I just had this book recommended to be...it's from 1998 and wondering if anyone from here has read it.Cordelia Underwood: Or, The Marvelous Beginnings of the Moosepath League
I'm reading Julian Barnes the history of the world in 10 1/2 chapters and listening to The chaperone. I finished Arcadia and The last summer of the camperdowns. For any of you who've watched Girls, take three minutes to laugh hysterically at this short my daughter made. http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/312a...
Gerald wrote: "Finished listening to
last night.ger"So Gerald, what did you think? I started the Audible version last weekend.
I'm with everyone else that singing the praises of Audible. I listen while I do housework. My house has never been so clean :)
I'm currently reading
. I'm about halfway through and really enjoying it. Will probably finish this weekend.
Angie wrote: "I'm currently reading

Finished listening to Canada
so I perused the library's CD catalog and settled on Bridge of Sighs
but only because no Booktopia that I have not read is available in audio.
I also finished the latest Flavia Speaking from Among the Bones
(another 5 stars to Alan Bradley).
I was notified the e-version of The Paris Wife
so I downloaded and started that.
Now I found out that both The Round House
and The Dinner
are on hold for me at the library. Both I'm eager to read, so I better read fast. (I didn't really want to clear off the dining room table anyway.)
