What shelf are you talking about? Is there a general community shelf or something?
Oh I see what you mean now. I just realised it. I have about 200 IR books on my personal shelves. It wouldb be great if I could just export them all over hmmmmmmm You know what's lacking on good reads - A duplication check!
OK I've added a couple of books to the shelf. When I get some time I'll add some more

The nice thing about adding books is that our group appears on that book's page, so that more IR fans can find us!It would be nice if there was an export option, but there is a duplication check! :) Go to "my books," choose the "edit" view, and click "find duplicates." Not an option for the group books, unfortunately. Or searching the shelves. :/

Arch, yep. I do like to read. Most of them are BW/WM.I think in 3 or 4 the Male is Native American. One is Pakistani and 1 is Asian.But some of them have lots of descriptive sex in them.
I've tried to indicate in my review area the race of characters and if there's lots of sex or not. If I didn't and you want to know, please don't hesitate to ask

Do you notice that if the same book has a different cover that it can be added twice, heck thrice? :-)
Yeah, I've had to delete some. *grumbles* LOL. I started noticing when our group icon would appear multiple times on a page, LOL. I usually delete the older cover.

Not really, Justine. Since my book PROMISES was released, I've seen the same photo used on 3 other books in some form. I investigated. What's happening is believe it or not there really is limited photo stock out there. All the cover artists are pulling from the same places so you have overlap. Unless publishers/authors are willing to pay a lot of money to hire their own models and do their own photoshoots it will continue to happen. Even the NY houses are pulling from the same stocks.
Unless you're one of the NY Times bestsellering authors odds are good the cover used is coming from stock photos that everyone else is pulling from.

Ah thanks for explaining that LaVerne, but with the development in computer graphics can't they just create other images
Yes and a lot of them use computer graphics to create images but then get complaints about how cartoonish the bookcovers look. Personally I don't really like the computer generated graphics for my covers. But then when you use real photos, there still seems to be only so much that can be done. The base photo of the model remains the same.
I'm at the point where the next time I go to the beach I want to walk around with a camera, cash and a release form in my beachbag so the photos used on my covers would be original. LOLLaVerne
LOL! LaVerne, I can see how that would be frustrating. I don't like computer generated graphics either. The poorly rendered kind anyway.

Does a romance book have to have the pic of the characters on them? Can't they just have a rose or a garter belt or a thong or a pair of lips or some such?

Yeah a lot of cover artists use the same stock photo sites. I've seen a few I can identify right away. Harlequin sometimes doubles up on the same pic too. It's kinda weird heh.

That's true, but graphics seem to work better for sci/fi books not romance books. And no romance books don't necessarily have to have a pic of a character or characters on them, some don't. It's just a matter of preference of the author or publisher. But the majority and I think traditionally, romance books tend to have pictures of the characters on them. Much more so than any other genre.
Personally as a reader I don't care what's on the cover, if I know the authors work or the blurb on the back cover seems interesting. That being said, if I'm just browsing the shelves for a romance book it's the ones with interesting covers, usually they include people, that tend to catch my attention enough to pull it from the shelf.

If you sort the books by Author order they are easy to find that way. I'll see if I can identify them. I noticed about 5 or so this morning

Well you do have a point there. It does help me to bypass lots of books I would have otherwise had stopped to investigate. And it's way easy to spot an IR if the characters are smack dab on the front!

Some characters on the book don't match the characters in the book. I don't want to see one race on the cover and inside the book, another race.

See, and that's the thing with this site that we've talked about. I've noticed that if you choose the book from Amazon.com and someone has already logged it to the shelf but they did so from Goodreads. The site doesn't mark it added. I've noticed this on some occasions. Isn't that weird?!
OK then can one of the mods add a shelf BWWM. I don't see anywhere that I can add it

Now, does anyone know if all the books listed here falls under the BWWM category. If so, I can try to add as many as I can under the BWWM option, but not until I get home.

So, you should be able to pick the shelves the book falls under.
Awesome! Thanks for creating the shelves, Arch. I think most of them fall under those four groupings. I added historical, suspense and paranormal in case anyone has an interest. Have at it! LOL. ;) It shouldn't be too hard if we're all working on it.

Yes, I think that would help, but I'm not sure how we would judge them... Normally I can tell by the publisher but we probably only have a handful of publishers here and they seem to publish a range of material.

It's more difficult to designate now with the epublishers sometimes selling high erotic content as regular romance. But usually you designate each by heat level or check the publisher's site where the books are listed under. That's how it's usually done with most publishers.

Isn't Red Rose Publishing, a company that produces erotic books? All books listed that comes from that company can go under erotic.
I'm going to create an erotic shelf and non-erotic shelf.
An erotic shelf was already created, so I have created an non-erotic shelf.
Hey, Arch, I don't think we really need a non-erotic shelf. We can just assume those not on the erotic shelf are non. ;)If we're categorizing based on publisher, I think most readers know their erotic publishers -and that's many times indicated in the book thumbnails- so even that might be redundant.

I was wondering where that non-erotic shelf came from lol. I added a non-erotic romance shelf as well just in case someone is looking for strictly romance. But I put most of the non-erotic reads under both shelves just in case someone is looking for an overall genre without the erotic content. That should be really helpful though!
I shelved most of the books I recognized under what I remember from the characters and content. Most of the authors I recognize are strictly erotic but some I'm not quite sure of so I left it.
