Oh no, go for it. :-) You may know more about some of the reads than I do. Some I don't know the heat rating or characters so I left them unchanged. Anyone can add actually. That would be great too because I'd be interested to know more about some of the books before I buy them.

I'm fine. I haven't read a lot of interracial books. Only a few and they are listed on my shelf, under interracial books.

message 53: by new_user (last edited Apr 03, 2009 08:13PM) (new)

new_user Cool, Rae, I don't know the erotic content for a lot of them since I'm a relatively new reader to the genre. I think all the books are romance though. That's what I meant by saying an erotic shelf is fine without a non- shelf. It can get really cluttered when we have repetitive shelves, LOL. Look at me, I'm becoming a dictator, LOL.

Yeah, I think all the books probably fall under BWWM."

eh not so fast. i know some of the books that i added fall under the BW Native American category

Justine | 1361 comments There's that HEA acronym again... what does it mean?

HEA stands for Happily Ever After

Justine | 1361 comments having all of these shelves are so neat. thanks all for doing the work and suggesting the idea.

I've just looked. there are 2 shelves that need some work:
Non erotic
Non erotic romance

What's the difference between the two?

As well, can I suggest that since we can select multiple shelf for one book, that we also select the ethnicity designation as well as the category. so for instance a book can be rated

BWWM
Paranormal
Erotic

etc etc etc.

This is neat :-)

message 58: by Justine (new)

Justine | 1361 comments I will return to the books I added and see if I can further classify them. Some I may not remember. I guess I will have to re-read them

Thanks Eugenia.

I'm sticking strictly to my own bookshelf. I've added two books on the group shelf weeks ago and they don't fall under erotic books. If anyone wants to see what type of interracial books that I read, they are welcome to check out my interracial books. I don't have a shelf for the different type of interracial books. I mostly read BWWM books. If I read another type of interracial book, I will inform what pairing it is in my review.

On the group bookshelf, a person can put the book they add under whichever category it falls under.

Actually I noticed a few mysteries in there with a romance backdrop but not really romance in the industry described way. That's why I thought it'd be cool to have both just in case. But whichever lol.

Yeah, there's a ton out there, no? I was surprised myself when I discovered the genre.

I think I may as well so it won't get to crazy! Arch, I'm going to dive into your list to see if I missed any good reads. Feel free to do the same time if you like. I think we have the same kind of taste in books we like.

Can you give me an example of one you don't agree with. I was going thru my list and there were some i couldn't figure out how to classify. these are the ones with descriptive sex, but there's yet some sort of romance going on. would these be romantica or erotica do you think?

message 64: by Justine (new)

Justine | 1361 comments hey- is it my imagination?!?!?!? what has happened to the romance shelf? it's not there, it's not there.
and i think there's a need for it.

message 65: by new_user (new)

new_user Okay, I changed "erotica" to "erotic" and returned "romance." How's that?

message 66: by new_user (new)

new_user Well, "erotic" can be used to specify anything with explicit sex scenes, including erotica and mainstream novels. "Romance" is even more broader, inclusive of erotic and non-erotic novels. I added this shelf because everyone seemed to indicate that there were some novels on the shelf with romance as just a subplot.

Let's not get into the differences between erotica and romantica. This is just meant to steer readers in a general direction.

message 68: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL. I'd like to know that too, Eugenia. One of the more interesting aspects of IR for me is the cultural aspect, and I expect that would be diluted in a bwirm.

I'm staying away from adding shelves to the group shelf. Can someone add virgin hero, virgin heroine and nerdy hero (I like sexy nerds)?

message 70: by Justine (new)

Justine | 1361 comments LOL

yeah thanks Eugenia

I have two in my libray that i've not placed on the shelves coz there was no category for them. I can do so now.

And you are right. It's darned annoying to by an IR book - at least so you think - to then get that curve bal!!!!!!!!!
--------------------------------------------------
I added another desgination to the shelves, bwirm, black woman, interracial man because I added some books that feature that. I always like to know when the hero is interracial because I have a little peeve about the surprise black/white man, it just annoys me.

Justine | 1361 comments Arch wrote: "I'm staying away from adding shelves to the group shelf. Can someone add virgin hero, virgin heroine and nerdy hero (I like sexy nerds)?

Arch - i don't think I understand what you mean. I think I can only recall 3 books that I've read where the heroine was an actual virgin.

Do you mean virgin - not ever having had sex
or virgin to mean have never had sex and know nothing about it.

nerdy hero? I've never read a book with a nerdy hero - can you give an example of this? A book with a nerdy hero would be fine

message 72: by Justine (new)

Justine | 1361 comments well come to think of it I can only think of the following where the heroine was an actual virgin

At Last- Lisa G. Riley - Heroine knew about sex

Arms Of A Stranger - Giselle Carmichael - Didn't know much about sex

No Commitment Required - Seressia Glass - hmmmm don't remember

Thierry's Angel - Shara Azod - Knew about sex. Practiced with bananas after all

Simply Wicked - Lisa G. Riley - Heroine knew about sex

message 73: by Arch , Mod (new)

Arch | 6707 comments Mod
Someone practiced sex with a banana? Gross.

Isn't there only one kind of virgin?

I'm talking about never had sex. That's the only kind of virgin I know of.

Well Arch - no not at all. And perhaps it's because I live in NYC and we tend to be heathens here, but think of it and I'll try to be as delicate as possible

In some cultures some women have sex via "the back door" in order to leave the hymen intact. To me that woman is not a virgin. Would you call her a virgin? Some people would.

And the book with the banana - she was practicing oral sex. dirty minds you ladies have!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL LOL!!!

To me a virgin is more than just someone who has never had penetrative sex. IMO a virgin should be someone who has never had sex and it also quite innocent of the act.

message 75: by Arch , Mod (new)

Arch | 6707 comments Mod
Annal/oral sex: gross

I will not speak for anyone else, but I will speak for myself. My anus wasn't designed for sex. It was designed for a certain purpose and as for my mouth. It was designed for a certain purpose as well.

message 76: by Arch , Mod (new)

Arch | 6707 comments Mod
Eugenia,

A person can use the word gross to describe something. By me saying gross, doesn't mean I am calling someone gross.

Some people can't stand the sight of blood and say gross, does that mean, because they have blood in their body, they hate themselves?

I could be wrong, but don't you use the word gross to describe something?

I haven't met one person yet, who has never used the word gross.

message 77: by new_user (new)

new_user Justine wrote: "...and is also quite innocent of the act."

message 78: by Arch , Mod (new)

Arch | 6707 comments Mod
Eugenia,

You want to speak on act and think I shouldn't say an act is gross. Let me tell you of another act that I find to be gross. Seeing doctors put maggots in a person's wound, to heal the person. I find that gross.

I am sure you have said gross to an act as well Eugenia.

I can use a word to describe something. It doesn't mean that I am talking about someone. There's a difference.

Okay have to remember not to visit this thread when eating dinner.

Arch, I have an idea for what you're looking for so will add the sexy nerd and virgin hero category for ya as well some of the books I know fall into that category. Hopefully more will pop up cause that's a great underutilized trope in romance.

message 80: by Arch , Mod (new)

Arch | 6707 comments Mod
Thanks Rae.

I never gave Justine an example of a nerdy hero. Well, the example is not coming from an interracial book, because I haven't read one where the hero was a nerd.

Dave Malkoff from Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter Inc. is a nerdy hero. He's a nerd and a ex-CIA agent. Another nerd from that series is Wildcard. He's a nerd and a Seal.

I don't know if you've watched the show. La Femme Nikita. Birkoff was a nerdy hero.

The heroes are smart men, who are looked upon as being nerds.

There's a book out there in book world, where the heroine is the hero's bodyguard? Wow!

Thanks New_User. I think that I will have to finish my story first, before reading Beverly's story. I don't want it to seem as if I am copying her story, if our story have similiar stuff in it.

I remember writing a story and thank goodness my readers read my story, before they read an author's book, which came out after my story and knew that although me and the author were thinking alike. I didn't steal her material.

So, I will finish His Bodyguard first, before I'll check Beverly's story out. My library probably will not even carry it. I will have to request it from an out of town or state library.

That's what's kinda of a bummer about have but so many storylines to work with. The upside is they may be similar but they'll be different because of the voice and characters. :-) One good thing is there's more for readers who like that kind of story.

message 89: by Marie (new)

Marie (marierochelle) | 81 comments I don't think my books are erotic at all. I do have a couple of books where the heroines are virgins like Loving True, Slow Seduction. I even have a nerdy hero like Patrick from Lucky Charms. So, I think my books can fit into a lot of books choices for fans. Oh, by the way Phaze has just released the latest and newest book in The Men of CCD series. It's the sequel to Slow Seduction.

Marie, I will have to check your book Lucky Charms out. Is it in print or ebook? My library probably don't even have it. They don't tend to carry a lot of interracial books.

Can we have a shelf for heavy romance and one for light romance? The reason why I have said that is because I know some suspense book might state Suspense romance, but don't really focus on the romance.

Oh, I wanted to add that we need an ebook shelf.

message 92: by Marie (new)

Marie (marierochelle) | 81 comments Lucky Charms is an ebook right now. I'm not sure if Phaze will release it as a print book.

I love McGee. He's adorable.

It's hard to think of sexy nerds from books, but I've heard the hero from The Real Deal by Lucy Monroe is a sexy nerd. A historical that I read The Defiant One by Danelle Harmon has a sexy nerd as well.

new_user LOL. Variety's the spice of life. ;)

Arch, the "romance" shelf is there to kind of give you an idea of books that are truly romance and others that are, say, suspense with only a small romance subplot. Btw, a lot of libraries now have ebook collections, like Media Mall, so I would check your library's web site too. :)
