Judging by my friend's age, he would've been reading the book in the late 70s or early 80s, so it's several decades old.
"As I recall it, it was large, maybe about the size of a "Where's Waldo?" book. They were large, two page spreads, and they were incredibly detailed, with all sorts of things going on all over the page. Each spread was a different era -- Egypt, with pyramids being built and boats on the Nile, or Rome, with a legion building a road and a temple. Or colonial America, with a roadside inn and detailed wagons and farms.
The main character was an orange-haired caveman with a beard and (I think) a dog in each scene, and his clothes changed from scene to scene to be era-appropriate. I can not for the life of me think of what it was called.
I think there must have been some text as well, but I don't remember how it was incorporated."
Thanks again!
