I haven't read Crichton in a long time- maybe I should check out Jurassic park. disclosure is my fave one of his- so sad that he died so young."

I HIGHLY recommend it... then again this comes from the guy who collects Jurassic Park toys... owns 4 copies of both books, has 5 copies of all three movies, used to have a room full of nothing but Jurassic Park when he was younger, and hasn't taken the copy of Jurassic Park out of his Super Nintendo for about a week just because the game cartage just looks AWESOME sticking out it. Yeps, I am a little into Jurassic Park. But dont Forget to read it's sequel, The Lost World, the only sequel Michael Crichton ever wrote.
He did die too young. I was devastated when I heard he passed. Hopefully I can get him to sign a copy of Jurassic Park in Heaven for me.

Christine | 798 comments I like how you see Crichton's words like a movie in your head. Some author's words are easy to visualize and I think Crichton is one of those. I thought they did a great job of bringing Jurassic Park to the screen. The first time you see the dinosaurs, it jaw dropping. I can't imagine what it was like in 3D!!!!!!

One for the Money is mind candy. Just enjoy.

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments For the time, I think they definitely did an amazing job bringing Jurassic Park to the screen. I would still love to see a version of Jurassic Park that had all the action scenes of the novel. With that said, the movie as is is HOLY CRAP!!!! ITS A DINOSAUR!!! in 3D its like HOLY CRAP ITS A IN DINOSAUR IN MY FACE!!!! WAIT THATS BAD!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! XD But really, they did an amazing job putting the movie in 3D. The 3D adds a lot to the movie. Its one of the few movies I can say that about.

I Definitely can't wait to start it, but first I plan on reading Anonymous Rex first because of its a dinosaur detective comedy novel! =D

Lacey (crazdwriter) I saw Jurassic Park in 3D! It was awesome...brought back good memories of the past for me and created new memories seeing it with my hubby. :-). BUT I'm scared about Jurassic Park 4!

I am excited to see what they do with Jurassic Park 4. The screenwriter is a really great one that is doing the script. The team behind Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I thought that movie felt like a Crichton novel. So far all the newer news has really excited me for it. If the 3D is how they did 3D for Jurassic Park in 3D, I would definitely see 4 in 3D, I dont see too many movies in 3D.

message 106: by Lacey (new)

Lacey (crazdwriter) Okay you watch it first, Josh, then tell me if you like 4 or not and if u think it would b worth seeing in the theater or wait for Netflix to get it lol

message 107: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3524 comments I haven't seen Jurassic park in years- you guys are making me miss dinosaurs lol

message 108: by Lacey (new)

Lacey (crazdwriter) Go see it, Rachel!

message 109: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments Jurassic Park 4! I had no idea they were making another one. Wow.

Yes they are. I have known for YEARS now. Since 2001. But its been through development HELL. One of the original plans was that they were going to make humanoid dinosaurs and give them guns. Of course the idea was shot down but it did take them a while to actually shoot it down.

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments Rachel wrote: "I haven't seen Jurassic park in years- you guys are making me miss dinosaurs lol"

WATCH IT NOW!!!!! lol. Or go see it in 3D. Just go watch it! lol.

message 113: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments Josh wrote: "One of the original plans was that they were going to make humanoid dinosaurs...."

That is one of the silliest ideas I have ever heard for a movie, dinosaurs with guns, lol

message 114: by Lacey (new)

Lacey (crazdwriter) Yea glad they shot that down. Really? It's Jurassic Park not Dinotopia

message 115: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments Definitely silly... Will they shoot you, then eat you? XD But then again, if done right, it would probably work but not in a Jurassic Park movie.

message 116: by Lacey (new)

Lacey (crazdwriter) Oh dang it...T-Rex got bullet stuck in his teeth again.

message 117: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3524 comments lol- a little floss will get that out

message 118: by Lacey (new)

Lacey (crazdwriter) You can do that Rachel I can't going near him to floss his teeth lmao

message 119: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments Most people believe all of this is the original concept art for that version of the movie. http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/1...

message 120: by Lacey (new)

Lacey (crazdwriter) Oh yea they're cute...not lol

Christine | 798 comments Josh wrote: "Most people believe all of this is the original concept art for that version of the movie. http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/1..."

that is creepy looking. I am even more glad they did not go with that.

message 122: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments It is really creepy. lol. Dinosaurs are totally cooler in my opinion. I hope they either decide to do an extinction story for 4 or do a fall of man story. The latter could spawn even more movies than just one. Those are just my ideas.

yes :)

message 125: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments YAY!!! Then Odd Thomas is back for another round. XD I am going start listening to it when I am running. =D

message 126: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments Finished another E-A-R-T-H challenge book. Eaters of the Dead by Michael Crichton. It was a great more realistic version of Beowulf. I am not one for fantasy but this one was great. It is a really different story by Michael Crichton for sure.

Next book I plan on reading is Anonymous Rex By Eric Garcia. It is a humorous dinosaur detective novel! I can't wait to see if it is good. It will be complete a humor challenge. Odd Thomas is the audiobook I am starting in the morning. That will complete the challenge a person who works with food! =D

TV show for what?

Under the Dome is horror? From what I understand it is more along the lines of a scifi but then again I haven't read it, I just listened to an interview with Stephen King about it.

message 129: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments I changed books like 5 times so right now I am reading Living Dead In Dallas. It fits into horror.

I am! Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. What did you think of Under the Dome. I thought it was very good, a very bizarre concept for a novel. I think the book fits into both horror and sci-fi.

It sounds cool. It is HUGE though so I haven't yet decided I wanted to read it despite how cool it sounds.

On other note, I changed books again today. lol. I am now rereading the book series that got me into reading ten years ago because I just realized it had been 10 years and I just didn't feel like reading Living Dead In Dallas. Anyways, I am reading Cirque Du Freak By Darren Shan... Though most people I guess calls the first book A Living Nightmare now. But its really called Cirque Du Freak... I think Americans changed the title cause we changed the series name to Cirque Du Freak. It was originally called The Saga of Darren Shan everywhere else.

this june under the dome is being made into a summer tv series. I agree with Christine that this book is a blend of horror and science fiction.

it is a giant book- I have to say overall I liked it but did not love it- I thought parts of it were great and other parts seemed to ramble and should have been edited out in my opinion. I think I would have liked it more if it was shorter- 3 1/2 stars

overall I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it but I wouldn't say not to read it either.

that said it was a very visual book with some great characters so i'm very excited about the show this june- I think in the right hands and with some editing this story will make great tv.

Christine- I had started a thread for under the dome on the dare to dream page when I heard it was being made into a series. i'm hoping those in the group that watch the show this summer will comment on the thread about the episodes- i'd love to talk about with you and anyone else who watches :D

Okay, Sweetness! I may watch the TV series assuming it doesnt come on at the same time as Primeval New World comes on, that starts in June too.

message 136: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I will definitely comment. I am a little worried about it. Stephen King novels rarely make good TV or movies.

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments Christine wrote: "I will definitely comment. I am a little worried about it. Stephen King novels rarely make good TV or movies."

That is true. The newest one I saw was 1409... That was was really great. It was okay. That was probably the first one I saw. I cant recall anything else I have seen. I know my dad says there are definitely some crappy King adaptations out there.

message 138: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments Your Dad is correct and I don't know why that is.

message 139: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments I dont know, they do the same thing with Koontz movies as well. Another one that my dad as said, I have only seen Demon Seed... well its the only one I remember that is. lol.

message 140: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments maybe its the genre.

message 141: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments Christine wrote: "maybe its the genre."

Probably so. Or their stuff is just hard to put to screen or the mostly likely thing is that they want to make a quick buck by making a cheap movie with an author's name on it with a HUGE fan base.

message 142: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3524 comments I guess i'm in the minority but I tend to like the king movies(maybe because I haven't read many of his books. I loved misery, the green mile, shawshank redemption and the miniseries it (except for the ending) I also really liked the mini series for the stand- that's one of the few books I did read and I thought the mini series was terrific- if I remember correctly king wrote the teleplay but I can be wrong.

as far as under the dome- king seems to be endorsing the upcoming series- not sure how much input he's had- I thought I read a while ago that Spielberg was producing but I'm not sure. I read that they made some revisions to the story with king's blessing but I guess we'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

the movies based on dean's books tend to be horrible and he tends to be pretty vocal about how much he's hated the movies in the past but he seems happy with the upcoming odd Thomas movie.

The movies you mentioned have been the best of King's books adapted to movies. The Shining and Carrie are also good. I think a lot of it has to do with the actors involved. The Stand didn't even come close to the book but was ok. If you get a chance, read some of King's books and short stories. I highly recommend them, especially the older stuff.

message 144: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3524 comments one of the reasons I haven't read many of his books is that I normally won't read a book if I've seen the movie and I think I've seen every king adaptation ever made lol. I think I probably will end up giving his older books a try. Which of his books is your favorite? I want to read the talisman and have thought about reading the shining because the sequel dr. sleep sounds really good.

did you read 11/22/63? I thought that book was amazing.

message 145: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3524 comments I tried to post a link to you tube that was posted in my other group but it's not working :(

it showed a preview for under the dome- king was talking about the show and it said he's an executive producer- it looked really good!

message 146: by Christine (new)

Christine | 798 comments I have not read 11/22/63 yet but it is in my TBR pile. My favorite novel is The Stand and my favorite short story is The Mist. The Talisman is very good and deserves a second read for me. I am in the middle of reading King's Dark Tower series now. If you are interested in writing, definitely read On Writing

message 147: by Josh (new)

Josh Barnett (joshyboy98311) | 366 comments I forgot, I have seen the Shining, I loved the movie for its strangeness. I need to get back to reading the Dark Tower: The Gunslinger. I read half of it and loved it but then I decided I was going to buy Darren Shan books and that ended me reading it... Which is what ALWAYS happens when I am trying to read a book and then get a new Darren Shan book. It has happened so much that I have a few half read books I still need to finish. Anyways, I own Dark Tower books 1-4 and The Stand Uncut edition.

And now Finished a horror challenge with A Living Nightmare By ironically, Darren Shan. It was a really great reread because it reminded me how badly I wanted to read it 10 years ago and I also thought about the rest of the books and how the events in this one affected all 12 of the others. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend any everyone to read it, especially if you love vampires and want a bit of a more realistic take on them.

the shining was a freaky movie. here's johnny :O

you should read the stand- it's a great book- many think it's one of his best.

message 150: by Danell (new)

Danell (danellbookworm) | 685 comments I am half way through "Under the Dome" and it is good, can't wait for the series! I also prefer Kings older works. "The Stand" and "Salems Lot" are two of my favorites.

Sorry, for my absence during this challenge....but plan on participating in the next one!
