Rosa Wichuraiana | 88 comments One of my favorite books as a child (about 15 years ago) was about a pie shop that sold pies that were "marvelous" or "amazing" or some other such adjective. The characters were animals. When the story opened, the shopkeeper had many pies, and the book chronicled how she ended up selling all or all but one of the pies by the end of the day. I believe it was supposed to be about counting and I have a vague feeling that it was English in origin.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Hmm. Do you recall anything about the style of illustrations? Cartoony or realistic, bright or subtle, paintings or simpler line drawings...?

Rosa Wichuraiana | 88 comments The illustrations were in full color in a fairly cartoony style.

I can't find much information on this one, except it seems that Ruth is a pie-baking octopus: Ruth's Bake Shop

Rosa Wichuraiana | 88 comments Nope, it's not that one, but thanks for the suggestion!
I think that the baker is a sheep. I am pretty positive that she is a mammal.

If it helps, I remember that some pages are devoted to painting the sign to hang over the door and choosing the adjective which would describe the pies on it.

Could it be something by Richard Scarry? For example, "The Great Pie Robbery" Richard Scarry's The Great Pie Robbery and Other Mysteries by Richard Scarry or "Richard Scarry's The Best Counting Book Ever" Richard Scarry's Best Counting Book Ever by Richard Scarry ?

Cheryl (cherylllr) Or, maybe it's in the non-fiction children's section of the library, as maybe the emphasis was on teaching about adjectives?
