I am trying to locate where the City of Bones discussion will take place here (?) so I can invite a new friend who wants to participate. I can send her a link if I know I am in the right group.

City of Bones, no spoilers:

With spoilers:

In the 'no spoiler' topic, I put instructions for using the spoiler tags. Do the rest of you think this makes a spoiler topic redundant?

You said you don't get time to watch movies on TV.. I don't know if that's true now but you can try [ vplay.ro ]

As a whole, it's still true that I don't get much time to watch movies on TV, and my wife and I don't go to theaters very often, either. We'd hoped to watch the upcoming Breaking Dawn, Part 1 movie at the local theater when it came out, but that won't be feasible, after all. :-(

Wow, The Entity sounds really interesting. Also, you're not the first person I've seen to recommend Insidious. I've been meaning to check it out. I'm very skeptical of modern horror films; they tend to copy each other right and left, but I've heard great things about this one.

It's been about seven months since the original post on this topic (I tend to read back over old posts), but if anyone's still reading, I loved 'The Entity' when I read it ages ago. If anyone is looking for 'vintage' 70's horror, you can't go wrong with 'Audrey Rose' by Frank D. FeLitta or 'The Sentinel' by Jeffrey Konvitz. The latter scared the wits out of me for weeks.

I agree, it's always fun to recognize where a writer is talking about. I am from the Pacific Northwest as well a couple of hours out of Seattle. When I see a book that is set there I admit I tend to be drawn to it. It's interesting to see things in a book that are familiar and comforting like weather, geographic landmarks, etc.
I am a writer myself and so far anyway, I've stuck to the familiar and write stories based on around here. That doesn't mean I always will but for now... you know what they say, write what you know :)

Agreed. I'm originally from Ohio and a lot of my stories take place there. The rest tend to take place in Kansas, where I've hung my hat for almost 20 years. I do have a novel in the works that is set in the fictitious town of Cedar Point, Oregon, however (I needed a coastal town where it rains all the time). That's not exactly Seattle, but I hope you'll be drawn to it when it is published!

I would check it out :) What genre is it?

I am a mommy of two girls ages eleven and three. They are totally cool diva chicks with lots of spunk.
I am a YA author by trade and passion. I just released my first book... YAY!
I am blind and have been for around ten years now. It's kind of rediculous actually. I am kind of a dork and have always had a fear of the dark. As luck would have it, the dark is all I know now. Carma? Maybe, I just think it's the universes way of playing a really bad joke lol.
I have only been on Good reads for a few months but I love it so far. It is tons better than Facebook, not nearly as much drama. I love meeting new people so feel free and send me a friend request and we can chat :)

That sound like a really interesting premise for a story: a blind person afraid of the dark. Wow. I once knew a firefighter afraid of fires, and I thought that would make a good character, too.
Congratulations on your new book. (I just released a book myself, so I know it's exciting.) Sightless Spirits sounds interesting.

thank you congrats on yours as well:)
I never really thought about that but yeah it would make a good story. I'll have to play around with that lol
I am going to head on over to your profile and see what your book is;)

It's very small right now. If anyone is interested & would like to join, it would be great.

I'll be back next weekend, eager to catch up on all that I missed!

On Wednesday, I plan to leave for a short vacation, and don't expect to be back until the following Sunday. During that time, I'll be offline pretty much entirely; but I'll catch up when I get back!

From Tuesday on until around the middle of next week, I expect to be mostly offline, as far as Goodreads and other non-work-related pursuits are concerned (except during meal breaks at work). After five years of widowhood, my middle daughter is getting married on Saturday, Dec. 3 (Yay!), and we have family coming in for the big day, and staying for a few days afterwards.

Have fun.

Our new co-mod is Deb Atwood, who's no stranger to those of us who take part in our group's annual common read. We're grateful for Deb's willingness to step up to the plate!
