I'm a huge re-reader, but a lot of times only my favorite parts of a book. Do you re-read? If you do, do you read certain parts or the whole book? Do you find your opinion changes on the book when you re-read it, especially ones you read again years later?

Yes, I do. When I first started out reading, I didn't. But as I've gotten older I like to revisit some of my favorites. Yes, my opinion has changed on books I read 30 or 40 years ago. Well, some of them anyway. I have a few favorites that have stood the test of time and there are others I really loved many years ago that I wonder why I did now. I almost always read the whole book when I reread. I may sometimes skim over some parts but I'll read through to the end.

message 3: by Angie Elle (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 63 comments I used to re-read a lot more, but with ereaders making books so much more accessible, I re-read less than I used to.

So many more books are released nowadays, and it just makes me too excited to read something new.

message 4: by Anna D. (new)

Anna D. | 44 comments I'm a huge rereader! Usually, I only reread my favorite parts of the book, though there are some books I love so much that I reread the entire thing, without skimming! My opinions have changed on some characters-usually I become more forgiving of their faults. More often than not, the experience brings more fondness of the book, like revisiting a favorite childhood place/memory :-)

message 5: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (halfpint66) | 272 comments I do re-read, but not by choice. I sometimes will buy a book that was reprinted and I won't know until I've started the book and realize that I've already read it years ago.

message 6: by Love love (new)

Love love | 151 comments I used to reread much more years ago. I am rereading some of my favorite books for this month, 1) to try and reduce my book spending and 2) to try and show my husband that there really is a reason to keep all of my books that I've read. lol

message 7: by ★Winter★ (new)

★Winter★ | 43 comments I re-read all the time. Especially series books. I read so much that sometimes storylines from all my series get mixed up in my head. So I will re-read the entire series if it's been awhile to get ready for the newest book.

What are your favorite re-read books?

message 9: by Pamela(AllHoney), Danger Zone (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 1706 comments Mod
To name a few... I reread Julie Garwood and Linda Howard a lot. Also have reread several of Kathleen Woodiwiss', Jude Deveraux's, and Johanna Lindsey's earlier stuff. Pamela Clare's I-Team series. I have already reread a few of Kristen Ashley's books. Jaycee Clark's Deadly series.

message 10: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (studioeastrat) | 511 comments I reread sometimes but only my FAVORITE books and series. Like I have read pride and prejudice multiple times also Kresely Cole's immortals after dark series. A book has to make a big impression on me for me to want to read it again.

message 11: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammyprice) | 5 comments Yes, at time of a release of a series book. Just to refresh my memory and pick up things I missed the last time around.

message 12: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (shinhbang) | 139 comments I love to re-read my favorite books. For example, I've been rereading Iced by Karen Marie Moning, and I'd go through all the Dani and Ryodan scenes. They're my fave. :)

message 13: by Love love (new)

Love love | 151 comments My usual rereads are Cry No More by Linda Howard, Separate Beds by LaVyrle Spencer,Lawless by Diana Palmer to name a few. However when I decided to do a February reread month I knew I only wanted to reread books that I've only read once. Thus being a VERY busy month I've only reread Unspeakable by Sandra Brown and The Conqueror by Brenda Joyce. I've really had a good time with this and will probably pick a few months a year to be strickly reread months. =)

I loved Linda Howard's Cry No More. That was the best read of the year for me when I read it. I don't know if I could bear to read it again, though. Despite the title, I think I went through a few boxes of tissues. :)

message 15: by Love love (new)

Love love | 151 comments @Angie- that was the first book that I had read by LH and I was hooked after that one. I LOVE a book that can make me cry,not an easy thing to do, no matter how many times I read it I still need a box of tissues right next to me. lol

message 16: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) I don't reread romances as often as I reread some of my other favorites. But I do reread, quite often, though lately I've decided I need to try harder to knock more new ones of the TBR, especially since I can't seem to stop myself from buying new ones! :o

message 17: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sandra--) I re-read all the time but especially when I'm a reading rut. ..like I am now

message 18: by Jane (new)

Jane (star_gazing_janey) | 41 comments Since I'm constantly finding new books, I find it hard to re-read. But when I do re-read (usually Classics) I just go to my favorite parts.

message 19: by Anna D. (new)

Anna D. | 44 comments ~Megan~ wrote: "What are your favorite re-read books?"

I like to re-read books that make me laugh.. A few of Julia Quinn's books top my re-read pile for that reason. I can't explain it, but I can still laugh the second or third time around :)

message 20: by Danny (new)

Danny Tyran (danny_) | 22 comments This is very very rare that I reread a book. I do it only if nothing new and interesting is available. Since this is pretty rare...

And when I do, I reread only books that left indelible memory in my mind. It's sad since they left such a memory, it means that I remember them too well to love them as much as the first time.

message 21: by Allison (new)

Allison Librett | 1 comments I love to re-read Kristen Ashley. I do agree it is not as good as the first time BUT still gives me warm and fuzzies.

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) I'm re-reading when I'm in a melancholy mood and need something I already know I'll love (once again!) to lift my mood. In this case I choose one or two of my old favorites so as not to risk a disappointment or messing with something mediocre. I re-read too, when I'm caught in a discussion with someone about a book I've read and liked, and sometimes that makes me want to read it again.

Very rarely, the book I choose to re-read, doesn't seem as nice the second or third time, as the previous ones, but that doesn't happen too often to me; most times I love it just as much as the first time.

message 23: by Heather (new)

Heather (heathermb) | 21 comments Since I got my Nook and started doing reading challenges I've noticed that my rereading has dropped significantly but I still have a few tried and true multiple reread books. For me they are: The Blue Sword (Damar, #1) by Robin McKinley This Is All I Ask (De Piaget, #7) by Lynn Kurland Love's Illusion by Katherine Sutcliffe Desire and Deception by Nicole Jordan Wild Orchids by Jude Deveraux Nightfall by Anne Stuart Best Kept Secrets by Sandra Brown Charming the Prince (Fairy Tales, #1) by Teresa Medeiros and Only By Your Touch by Catherine Anderson

Each of those I will reread in their entirety instead of skipping around which I do do in some other books. I guess I feel I don't need to skip anything because I know I can't go wrong with one of them as they've all been long standing 5star books for one reason or another.

message 24: by Missyb (new)

Missyb | 98 comments I don't re-read because I have so many on my TBR list. I do go back a scan through if I am lost because it's been so long between book in a series, but otherwise I don't have time.

message 25: by Angie Elle (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 63 comments OK. This is funny timing, because when I first answered this, I said I didn't do a lot of re-reading.

Then I finished On Dublin Street, and it was so good I went back to the beginning and started all over again. LOL So, in answer, yes. I do re-read. When it's worth it!

message 26: by Kouk (new)

Kouk I don't do a lot of re reads.
The ones i did read again were the Harry Potter books.
Which i re read every year when a new one came out and again before seeing the last movie!

message 27: by Kryptonite (new)

Kryptonite (sg34) | 406 comments Kouk, I did the same with the HP series! Reread them before the movie and reread the latest book before the new one came out.
Those were the first books I decided to reread. Actually, HP got me to like reading.

Now I do reread often. There are a few books I enjoy a lot and reread them often. Like the IAD series.

message 28: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 13 comments I have re-read a few....I have such a TBR list that I like to read new. However there a re some I just like to go back to. Come to think of it, every single one I have re-read is a Lisa Kleypas book.

message 29: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (studioeastrat) | 511 comments I do. But only books that I just loved.

message 30: by Jean (new)

Jean (otakumom) Yes!

message 31: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Before getting my Kindle, I re-read all the time because I just didn't have the selection that is available to me now. Since ebook became accessible, I hardly re-read at all.
That said, some of my favorite re-reads are Ghost Moon by Karen Robards Mirror Image by Sandra Brown Until You (Westmoreland, #3) by Judith McNaught

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) Mirror Image by Sandra Brown is in the top 10 of MY re-read list as well! I must have read it at least 4-5 times:)

message 33: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) I will reread books for a couple of reasons. If they are part of a series, I like to reread previous books in the series right before the new one comes out...get the characters back in my head. Then sometimes, between new books, I just like to reread an old favorite...usually something that just made me feel good.

message 34: by Breeze (last edited Mar 24, 2013 07:54AM) (new)

Breeze Yup, I reread books that i sped thru because I had to know the ending! Thoughtless! I read that so fast I ended it and started over immediately and now have read it 3 times.
Fever Series, read it 3 times. mostly because it's a layered story and reading it twice was beneficial but the scenes between Mac and Jerricho I have (blush) read numerous times!
On Dublin Street will always reread. after reading a string of bad love story's i rely on this book to bring me back to how good a true love story can be!

message 35: by Alisa (new)

Alisa Almost never. I have about 300 books on my tbr list & I add to it daily. Sometimes if it is a series that has taken a long time between books I will skim the last book to refresh my memory.

message 36: by Darcy (new)

Darcy Lankford (dlankford) I re-read the good ones, sometimes several times, and when a new book is coming out and it's been awhile since the one before came out. I have to reacquaint myself with the series if there is several books in it.

message 37: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 39 comments I do reread books. Sometimes I'm just in the mood to revisit a book that I really enjoyed before. I just finished a reread of Johanna Lindsey's Malroy - Anderson series. I reread Karen Chance's Cassie Palmer's series so that I could remind myself what had happened before I started her newest book. I think of it as a good way to meet old characters and discover things that I have forgotten about, and find new things.

Emma ~ The Indecisive Reader ~ (emmatheindecisivereader) | 12 comments I love re reading my books. Usually series books most the time. When I first read a book and it hooks me straight away, I tend to read it so quickly. Then 2nd time I find bits in it I didn't remember and same for 3rd time on some books. I also find re reading you read it on a different level, especially if its a series book because you understand where they've came from more and where they going?!?!

message 39: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. There are some series I'll re-read with physical books, but most of my re-reads are by audiobook.

I don't get the chance to reread much. I just have too many unread books to read. I used to reread my favorite parts of my favorite books (Anne Stuart, Feehan, various Harlequin Presents, JR Ward), but I haven't even had time for that lately. I was able to reread all the GhostWalker books by Christine Feehan last summer, which was awesome. I am still working my way through a reread of the Ice series by Anne Stuart.

Tara, I think that emotional response is what prompts me to want to reread favorite books.
