Linda Kelly Anything by Johnathon Frantzen!

Gerd Siobhan wrote: "Read a Nicholas Sparks novel. He is always, always so much better in film adaptation ;)"

I'm currently at "Safe Haven", and while it is a slow read I do find Sparks to be quite comfy.
Also, I find it hard to imagine that "Message in a bottle" could be even worse in writing than it was as movie. :D

I was truly moved by "Memoirs of a Geisha". I didn't expect to care about the subject or the setting, but I did. But no book can be for everyone. "Twilight" makes so many people's worst list because so many more people have read it. If all the same people had been forced to read "Jude the Obscure", "Ethan Frome" or several other books I might mention, then there would be many books higher on the "worst" list than "Twilight".

message 54: by Lupe (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lupe host by Stephanie mayer

message 55: by Leniw (new) - rated it 1 star

Leniw Definitely "The Courtship Gift" by Julie Parsons. Do not waste your precious time reading it.

Linda Kelly Oh I forgot about Jude the Obscure, Oh the misery!

Bookworm Has to be 'night light' (a parody of Twilight), it was just a pathetic attempt at humour.

message 58: by Joan (new) - rated it 1 star

Joan Fifty Shades of Gray.....could not get beyond page 50....worst writing ever and she's laughing all the way to the bank.

I didn't think the first Twilight novel was too bad. I think if it had been a stand-alone book, it wouldn't have the stigma that it has now."

I think you and I are the only two people in the universe who didn't like The Kite Runner. I even read it twice to make sure I wasn't missing something. Still awful.

message 60: by Kate (new) - rated it 2 stars

Kate to be completely honest the worst book i ever read was The Giver by Lois Lowry

NoraReads i actually enjoyed Twilight more than i thought i would..

hmm...i still haven't read a book that i would call the worst XD *thank god* LOL

Linda Kelly I love the fact that we all love and hate different books...I loved The Kite Runner but loathed The Book Thief.

Linda wrote: "I love the fact that we all love and hate different books...I loved The Kite Runner but loathed The Book Thief."
Ew, The Book Thief. *shudders* The only thing I liked about that book was the narrator.

Kimberly Sioco Modelland by Tyra Banks. I don't know. I just find the Tookie de la Creme (Which is the name of the protagonist) funny. And everything about it is childish and kind of unprofessional. As if Tyra Banks is trying so hard to be a novelist

Nuran I had to look up Tyra Bank’s novel. Found this on dailymail.co.uk -

“Indeed, with names like ‘Digeridoo’ and ‘Cappucina’ for countries, and ‘Bestosterone’ for a male model academy, there is no denying its absurdity.”

Like what the hell??? And it topped children’s bestseller in 2011??? I’ve never heard of it!!! And those names for countries?? I take it ‘Digeridoo’ is suppose to be Australia’s equivalent, but can anyone work out Cappucina??? Possibly, Italy because it’s the home of cappuccino?

Kimberly Sioco Nuran wrote: "I had to look up Tyra Bank’s novel. Found this on dailymail.co.uk -

And maybe, Bestosterone is for Male's testosterone or something? hahaha!

Amrita twilight saga-eclipse,undoubtedly,the worst book i've ever read..

Alice The catcher in the rye - why it is considered a 'classic' I'll never know...

Linda Kelly Anything by the 'models is utter tripe..eg. Naomi Campbell or Katie Price.

Siobhan Alice wrote: "The catcher in the rye - why it is considered a 'classic' I'll never know..."

Totally agree. I spent the whole novel actively disliking Holden.

And Linda, if you take those novels for what they are (a talented writer trying to get some bulk to their name and a decent fee from ghost writing while the celebrity uses their name to promote the piece) then they can be nice puff pieces. I read "Katie Price's" Angel early last year, and it was pretty tolerable. Also, I don't think Katie ever read it, because it sounds like her autobiography. With one of the Wanted instead of Pete (and she's lucky the Wanted haven't done anything like sue!)

Linda Kelly Can Katie read? If I was one of the Wanted I would sue...lol.

Siobhan I think she can at least recognise both her aliases. I think they got stitched into a bit of thread she got told were underwear once, probably the best way to teach her.

Linda Kelly Not sure she wears underwear.lol...don't mean to slate the girl too much she has made a lot of money the only way she knows how so good luck to her....as long as i'm not forced to read her books i'm happy.

Colleen Stitch something borrowed, something blue....too girly and too much shopping. come back to real life!!!

Reyhaneh Okay don't scream guys but I don't really like I Am Noumber Four
and the house of night series.

Heidi Who moved my cheese? was the worst book I've read in my entire life. To quote my review "Ever have a friend or someone whos really excited about something and they tell you the same story in thier excitement 5xs? People do it when they are pissed off too. The say the same thing or even chant the same thing over and over. You see it on Jerry Springer all the time. (ie you are the father - reaction "Now what?!Now what?!Now what?!Now what?!Now what?!")

It's the same for this book with a positive theme. Dr Suess could of rhymed and made it more entertaining in about 15 pages. " That is 45 mins (hey I read slow!) of my life I will never get back!

message 77: by Barb (new) - rated it 4 stars

Barb Fallen series are TERRIBLE! Man, the first book was sooo boring. And the main characters are worse than Edward and Bella. Luce is real Mary-Sue and Daniel is sparkling hero that will save the day and protect the woman he loves. How romantic -.-
I hated that book so much

message 78: by Mari (new) - rated it 3 stars

Mari Immortal City by Scott Speer I seriously never want to read another book like that ever again. I guess he never heard of hiring an editor to read his work and if he did he needs to fire that person.

Victoria Knight Worst book? I would have to say my Jr High History text book. Not only did they have everything whitewashed but a lot of the facts were actually wrong. Only read it because I had to but when it comes to Fiction I typically can't finish if it's that bad... Although 50 shades did come close

message 80: by Josefine (new) - added it

Josefine Amalie Petersen Twilight.
But I also hate the books we have to read in my school. I live in denmark, so it is those weird, danish authors we have to read.
We read a book about a boy, who is probably sick(?) He wants to chance the world and give food to children in the 3. world. He kept counting things and being weird. The chapters were extremely short. One chapter were like this:
"Chapter 15
The sun was shining. Someone stood behind the garage and it was..." And then the chapter ended like that! You never found out who stood there. The boy and his girlfriend stole a truck with food and drove to Africa to give the food to the poor children. The truck got stolen and the girlfriend ran after it and was run over and died and then it ended.
A other book was just a boring book about a guy who was friends with a guy with cancer. The main character kept shitting, even in his pants one time.
Another book about a boy who wanted a bigger penis, and he saw his dads and was jealoux.
So yeah, between a weird book about a crazy guy, a book with a shitting guy, a guy who wanted a bigger penis and Twilight... Twilight is still worse.

Seriously? The Kite Runner was such an amazing book. The media and experts agree with me. But everybody knows, deep inside, that Twilight sucks.

Cece Beyer Gravity's Rainbow - Studied it in my 'Post-Modern American Lit' module - it was 600 pages of torture. the only part that made sense was a sex scene involving one character (dressed as a nazi - I think-) pooped in another's mouth

Awful, horrible, almost turned me off literature for life (its worse as this a critically acclaimed book).

Tirion Rees davies I once got given a book called 'Raffy's shapes' by my mother to proof read for her because it was about 70p in Waterstones.

I know why it was 70p.

It wasn't worthy of the 70p.

Dear I read till 10th book, and the guy still havn't touch the girl. And the Manga was published in 2006, way way before Twilight made its way to Japan. I think you are very mistaking in your view of the manga. Besides, Black Bird's characters are NOT vampires, and they don't really live in the mortal realm, much of the story happens in their own hidden realms.

Nicholas Twilight, Fifty Shades of Grey, Bridges of Madison County (though enjoyed the movie) or anything by Ian McEwan

He sexually harasses her a lot. (view spoiler) it doesn't matter if they're Vampires, Demons or even Kitsunes, Everyone is after her because of her "special" blood. Besides it doesn't matter if by the time Twilight came to Japan, Black Bird was already out. Twilight was written and thought up BEFORE Black Bird was.

LOL...

LOOOOOOL....

Stealing something before it's happened. Thank you for the good laugh. Plus, Twilight has stolen from a medley of other older vampire books.. mixed in with elements from other sources. "Special blood" isn't exactly special, you know.

I can use the same argument and say Twilight is a ripoff of Sookie Stackhouse, which is about sexy mostly non-human killing vampires in urban fantasy setting, published in 2001. or maybe Twilight is a rip off of Vampire Knight, published in 2005 or "Blood +", the list is really long.

Have you read Sunshineby Robin McKinley, published in 2003, about a sexy vampire who refuse to take a drink from a girl. By the way if you liked Twilight, you'll definitely enjoy Sunshine. If you didn't like Twilight, the chances are you'll love Sunshine.

And while, I am 100% against sexual harassment in real life, in shōjo manga genera, sexual advances, from handsome boys is a very popular trope, the cliche could probably be found in one form or another in most of the shōjo mangas. Let me know your tolerance level, I could probably recommend something less offending.

Diane Twilight is over-hyped, and definitely way overrated, but its not a bad book, I would even say its moderately entertaining.

Alicia The worst book I read was schism by K.R. Lugo.

That book set out a magnificent plot of a detective chasing a gruesome serial killer, but out of the 16 chapters only a few have the detective or the killer and they meet in only about two of them. The other chapters are filled with pointless revenge that has pretty much nothing to do with the plot and half assed back story that tries to make you feel sorry for the killer but only makes you think that they need to be put down more. Did I mention the end felt like it was thrown in?

Many might not have like Twilight, but Schism makes it look like it was written by a literary god.

Critically acclaimed tends to mean 'weird and messed up but we don't want to admit we didn't understand it' or else 'factually correct but mind-numbingly boring.' So don't worry about hating a book that's acclaimed ;)

Dirk Van de Velde Smilla's Sense of Snow
Put that book away after reading maybe 50 pages of it. I just didn't like it.
