Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Tonight I had my first taste of the Olympics watching female beach volleyball. Is it just me or do the outfits get skimpier each time?

message 3252: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Yeah, I noticed that ....

It also kinda surprised me when they covered up during the final matches. XD

I thought they were always skimpy or cause they are so tall it just looked that way.

message 3254: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Oh, the outfits definitely looked like bikinis this year. Any skimpier and I swear they'd be held on with strings.

message 3255: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments Beach volleyball outfits on girls usually are bikini-looking. I'm surprised they weren't covered up more with the zika scare in south america...

And you never see the beach volleyball guys in speedo-sized bottoms...that would really be worth tuning in for... ^_^

And can I just say I'm tired of indoor and beach volleyball coverage? There's been next to no diving or gymnastic coverage compared to volleyball. Need more trampoline and badminton too!

message 3256: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ha, I would say be careful what one wishes for with speedo usage. Not many look great in those either. But yea better outfits for both sexes be great.

message 3257: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments Olympic athletes (generally) in speedos are much better than joe schmoe at the water park in a speedo.

message 3258: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Somewhat true. But I think of speedos on dudes as akin to butt hugging jeans on women. If you have a nice flattering behind to work said jeans it works well for ya. If you have hardly any ass and you in a speedo that still might not be the view folks want to see of ya. Especially if you toned all over and your butt is not looking that great lol.

message 3259: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments Name 1 sport where men actually wear less clothes than women in the olympics?

Gymnastics, guys wear pants unless on vault or floor (other 4 aparatus's they wear pants).

Swimming the guys tend to be in the body suits vs speedos now.

Diving the guys actually wear less. (And that's not why I watch, I like the artistry of the diving.)

Can anyone name another sport where the guys wear less than girls other than diving?

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments In this century? As I'm sure the original games the dudes were pretty skimpy. Men's basketball shorts were always scarily short to me back in the day too. O_O

And I guess for this 1972 Munich race:

description

Also this one in 1984. Could just be how fast he was going. But those shorts on that dude was so skimpy you can clearly see some ass cheek going on:

description

From this blog-http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/...

I did find this 2008 article about women's volley ball and them "preferring" to wear bikinis-http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/China/st...

And I'm not saying that dudes couldn't stand to be in something more revealing on par with the women. However I just say even the most toned bodies come out looking as great as we would imagine in certain clothing items.

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Saw some awesome show jumping last night. Individual qualifying. The horses were beautiful.

message 3262: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments I'd wanted to stream it, but ended up watching the entire qualifying round of the synchronized swimming free routine duets. When it finished, there was only an hour until primetime and gymnastics started.

I was so excited to see Brazil medal in men's floor! They got silver and bronze. Also, I want my own Sam Mikulak. He's too adorable for words.

message 3263: by Myst (new)

Myst | 734 comments Nbc's "schedule" of various events on the info for the olympics often seems to be off...I keep missing sports I want despite recording the segment listed as syncro swimming. Yesterday golf was shown for hours instead of whatever was scheduled on nbc. Ticked me off as the golf channel exists for a reason!

Shari-amor | 5275 comments New Question: So Fall tv shows are getting ready to roll out next month and in October. Are there any shows you're looking forward to!?

message 3265: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Flash for sure! Already seeing The Strain and that big of nasty wickedness lol. I'm sure there are plenty of others I'm totally blanking on at the moment though.

message 3266: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Is Strain still good!? I gave up on after awhile into the first season then tried again into the 2nd. Still couldnt hold my interest.

I'm waiting on Ajin (anime show on Netflix, Sense8 (even though that doesnt come back until December), Atlanta (new show with Donald Glover), American Horror Story and The Gary Owen Show.

message 3267: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments Once Upon A Time!! It promises to be the best season yet, and I really hope it lives up to expectations. Also, Aladdin and Jasmine are finally coming in!

The Flash definitely. Big Bang Theory and Criminal Minds, as always. The Walking Dead. Soooooooooooooo not ready for October 23rd, and never will be. Plus, I have to basically watch it by myself that night because my sister just moved to Michigan. My parents will be watching it in their room.

I'm also planning to check out Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency on BBC America. Arrow gets one more chance, because I love the idea of Curtis being a regular. I *adore* him. But if the writers don't go back to Ollie's mission, even Curtis won't keep me watching.

Miniseries I can't wait for is Victoria in January on PBS.

Hey it's good for strange overly long stinger tongued vamps and so forth. And as usual the humans are scrambling about not really knowing what to do lol.

Totally Once Upon a Time, I soooo forgot about that one! Have you seen the creators' other show Dead of Summer Rachel? Wasn't really my thing but my dad likes it.

message 3270: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments No, it doesn't interest me. I never got on the LOST bandwagon either, and they both did a lot of the day to day work on that one.

message 3271: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh definitely not a Lost fan either. It totally seemed lame out the gate. And honestly given the books we read of the PNR variety. I already kind of knew the end of the show without even watching it in the first place after talking to some folks about it in general.

message 3272: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments I've never watched Lost, but it sounds like I'm not missing anything of worth. XD

Truthfully, I've never had the inclination to watch it.

Looking forward to Big Bang Theory (of course), as well as Lucifer (on Fox, and my son is looking forward to that, too). Also looking forward to the return of Bluebloods (CBS) and a few other sitcoms.

And I know that it doesn't come out until early next year, but I'm also looking forward to the new Star Trek series. =)

message 3273: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments oh wow, they're bringing back the Star Trek series!? Sweet. I'd wondered if they'd revive it after the movies did so good. Also wonder if itll be in the same universe as the movies or separate.

message 3274: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Do you know if the Star Trek series will be on Syfy or no? Popz would love seeing that again. And yea he likes Lucifer too. I want to see about that Van Helsing series that is supposed to be on Syfy too.

message 3275: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments From what I understand, the new Star Trek series will premiere on CBS, but after that will appear on CBS All Access (which you have to pay money for). Oh, and if you live outside the U.S. and Canada, then you can watch it on Netflix 24 hours later.

Still, I'm looking forward to seeing the premiere, even though I'm too cheap to pay the $6 to watch the other episodes. (Which I hope will eventually appear on U.S. Netflix.)

The new series will be separate from the movies, set in the original timeline/universe. (Shatnerverse? XD Just kidding, it's known as the Prime Universe.)

Timewise, it's supposed to happen ten years before Kirk and co. And the main character won't be the captain, but rather a female lieutenant commander on the ship, known simply as "Number One".

message 3276: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Huh interesting. Yea we aren't real big on paying more than we already do for tv. Would have been great if they just kept it on tv in general. But will give him a heads up if he decides to change his mind.

message 3277: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments At least one person in my house will be paying to watch. Probably two of us.

message 3278: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Okay, so as we all know, it's not only autumn up here in the northern hemisphere, but apparently it's also Pumpkin Spice season. As in, there seems to be Pumpkin Spice everything, everywhere.

So, question of the day: What's the weirdest (or most disgusting) Pumpkin Spice thing you've seen or tried?

For me, it would have to be the Pumpkin Spice Triscuits. Yes, they exist, but no, I have not tried them. Nor do I plan to. XP

message 3279: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments The Triscuits definitely. Haven't tried them and don't plan to. I was aghast when I saw them and immediately texted a picture to my sister. Who joined me in being appalled and worried about America's future.

message 3280: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments LOL, Rachel! Yeah, I can agree with being worried about America's future. And I thought that the pumpkin spice candy corn was bad ...

message 3281: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I'll keep it original. I still think Pumpkin Spice coffee is disgusting. I never tried it. But I have tried pumpkin pie, and not sure if people just didn't put any love into the slices I've had. But regardless of how many spices and so forth they say they used to make it. But it is just not the best tasting pie I've ever had. And then add it to the strong flavor of coffee. Just ew.

message 3282: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments Dh, there are more bad pumpkin pies out there than there are good ones. Which is sad. Making a good one is not hard. The key is NOT to use the abomination spice blend called pumpkin pie spice. If you can make it with fresh pumpkin instead of canned, even better. And use real vanilla, not artificial.

I love pumpkin pie, but I'm very picky and like my homemade one best.

message 3283: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Yea, most likely Rachel. Some folks do like the instant approach to some desserts or even meals. And it just doesn't taste humane whatosever. Gotta know how to put your "foot" in it per se as my mom would say lol.

message 3284: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I've seen pumpkin spice bleach. That is a weird one for me

That is just wrong on so many levels.

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Pumpkin spice BLEACH??! Yeesh, that is weird! O.O

message 3287: by Cindi (last edited Nov 02, 2016 07:22PM) (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 534 comments You have to be making that up, Shari!

I love pumpkin pie. Tried to make it once, when I was like 20. I bought the crust, bought the canned mix, can hardly say I "made" it :) BUT I didn't know there was waxed paper on the flat part of the pie crusts...so when the pie was done and smelled lovely there was a serious problem when I tried to cut it. Let's just say I've not tried making any kind of pie again!

Costco makes a pretty good one, tho.

message 3288: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments LOL, that is such a cute story Cindi. Sounds like something I would do something similar as well.

message 3289: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Have a twofold question:

Have you finished your Christmas shopping?

Started watching this tv show called the Letter. Where 4 best friends pick each others' names from a bowl. Then write an anonymous letter to the person they chose. But these aren't just how awesome you are letters. These are letters that are rather blunt and meant to help the other person get over serious issues they may not be aware they are still harboring. Or things they are overly obsessed with like social media etc. In order to make them a better person. Usually through various tasks in the letter. So my question to all you lovely minions is....Could you be on the show The Letter?

message 3290: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Bought the new Christmas tree decoration but haven't done any gift shopping yet. I am not sure if I want someone else to write me a letter that lists my short comings. I am usually aware of them myself and I know the solutions, it is just pretty hard to implement them and go against my habits. I also decided that I am not a 15 minutes of fame person to participate in a show. I am already tongue shy when I have to give interviews.

Nice, at least you have part of the holiday decor taken care of. :) I'm also kind of with you on not being able to handle someone writing me things they perceive as my short comings. I'm more than aware of them. Although I did ask a friend once about what he thought mine were. And although I can't remember anything else, I still remember him saying I was too co-dependent on my parents. Which was kind of a rude awakening, most especially as he never knew the full picture of things. But that was then and I was a lot more in my feelings back then about stuff. I wouldn't do it for a show, but might consider it with close peeps that I'm actually much closer to. As we all could stand to improve a little more. But when we are ready for it.

Also sorry to hear about the car accident that you got into. Massive hugs and glad you and the other driver are okay. That can definitely be a hell of a situation to deal with at times.

Sarah Walker | 14 comments Hey guys I have a quick question for the League novels. Can I read Born Of Ice while reading Born Of Fire? I'm just curious if I should start reading the Ice book or not

message 3293: by Hal (new)

Hal (hdsreadinglife) | 47 comments I read Born of Ice before Born of Fire and I can't recall if there were any spoilers, I just remember being veryyyyy confused.

message 3294: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments Born of Ice takes place almost 30 years after Born of Fire. It won't necessarily spoil anything, but you also won't have any grasp at all of what's going on and what all's happened in those 30 years.

When I re-read The League, probably starting later this year, Born of Ice will be the last one I read, since it takes place after everything else that's out. (except for Adron's novella) If I reread it at all. It was a bit of a dud for me.

message 3295: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Walker | 14 comments Ah okay cool I'll wait until I read BOF after everything :)

Been away for forevers, sorry for that happening. Anybody do anything super fun and interesting this summer?

message 3297: by Cindi (new)

Cindi (ourtrumpcard) | 534 comments I've been out forever also...nothing fun going on tho, just softball tournaments with our twin girls. In like 105 degree weather!!!

message 3298: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments I went to Denver and Boulder last month, bookended with stays in Iowa with my bestie, and we had a BLAST!!!! I was gone for two weeks. Went to see her first, then we drove to Colorado, spent a week there, then drove back to her house.

I finally go to see Iowa and prove to her husband I'm real, and I had a wonderful train trip too. I hate flying, so I take the train whenever I can.

Oh wow, I don't think I recalled hearing you had children Cindi. But that is good they are enjoying some sports activities. I was always all thumbs when it came to anything like that. And definitely stay hydrated and under much A/C, 105 is nothing to play with. O_O
