Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Yeah, it's pushing me like: See the Flash. See the series. See it!

Oh, God. Wow, If I learn someday, I'll make sure it's safe.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments You'll love it, the Flash is just so great. Also shows a how even a superhero has to deal with the unrequited love role at times.

Glad to hear it Nicole. :)

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments So does my friend tell me. I'll see it soon.

message 2755: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (last edited Dec 11, 2014 10:30PM) (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Hahaha, I'll be sure to add the Flash to my list of "to-be-watched" shows. Oh, and am I wrong in thinking that the actors who play the Arrow and the Flash would also make awesome Dark-Hunters? XD

Shooting with a gun is cool (as long as it's done safely, of course ;D); I've shot with both a 9mm pistol and a .22-gauge shotgun. Turns out, I'm better with the shotgun. =)

Okay, so on to the next question. And an evil one at that, Amaya, because now I really have to think about this. XD

There are a number of series that I have enjoyed over the years, too numerous to list. Many of them, though, fizzled out for me over the course of the series; the main one that comes to mind here is Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. I seriously lost interest around Wizard and Glass, and ended up looking on Wikipedia to see how the series ended. >.>

So ... I think I can narrow it down to five series that didn't fizzle out for me, lol. XD And here they are:

1. Harry Potter, by J.K. Rowling
When I had my children, the extent of my reading reverted back to Dr. Seuss and Wibbly Pig. So Harry Potter, for me, marks a return to material with more complex sentences and plot. XD

2. Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien
To me, the ultimate in fantasy. 'Nuff said.

3. The MacGregors, by Nora Roberts
I love the antics of subtly manipulative patriarch Daniel MacGregor as he plays matchmaker for his daughter and grandchildren. XD

4. Laurel Heights (and the spinoff, Summerhill) by Kate Perry
Modern day romance series, with quirky humor sprinkled throughout. Good, lighthearted reads. =)

5. Fever series, by Karen Marie Moning
Dark and gritty urban fantasy, and more than just a love story. I love Mac's transformation from silly airhead to a serious force to be reckoned with.

Honorable mentions: A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin; Elemental Mysteries by Elizabeth Hunter; 5th Street by Elizabeth Reyes; A Modern Witch by Deborah Geary.

And I really, really, need to stop there. XD

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Great selections Charlotte. :) First time in a while I've seen a listing of someone's fave books and I know at least 4 of the authors haha.

I can definitely see Stephen Amell(the Arrow) as a DH all day. But the tone and how they have the Flash's character I can see him more as a squire. Kind of one of Nick's crew before he learned of his malachai ways and stuff went down with Ash/Simi front.

message 2757: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments I love Flash and Arrow! Watched Arrow over the summer on Netflix because I wanted to watch The Flash when it premiered. Haven't watched this week's episodes yet, probably going to do that tonight.

Stephen Amell would make an awesome Kyrian...

message 2758: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Yeah, I can see how Grant Gustin (the Flash) could be a Squire, too, now that I've taken another look at his pictures. XD

For some reason, when I first saw the pic, I pictured Valerius, lol. XD

Oh I have love for Valerius in all his uppitiness. But Grant is sooo not close to that. Maybe Chris, Wulf's descendant squire. As they both sorta have that awkward "I can't quite get the girl, til I show how cool I am later on" kind of vibe.

A good Valerius I think would be Blair Underwood if he wasn't black. As he often plays so many arrogant roles at times.

Or a Talon maybe. Very capable for both roles I think.

message 2763: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Q. 4 When did you know that you were a fan/supporter for life of Sherrilyn Kenyon!?

message 2764: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (last edited Dec 12, 2014 10:54AM) (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Oooh, an easy one! =D

Believe it or not, I knew I was gonna be hooked as soon as I read the opening line of Chapter One in Night Pleasures. Which would be the famous line uttered by Selena, "I say we stake him to an anthill and throw little pickles at him." XD

I knew that I was hooked for life when I got to the scene in Night Embrace where Talon wakes up in Sunshine's loft. And tries to hide in the corner while Sunshine's mother casually discusses his ... finer attributes. XD

I got into the books last year, when Amazon had that crazy $1.99 sale on DH books for Kindle, right before Styxx came out. So naturally, I started at the beginning. =)

message 2765: by Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* (last edited Dec 12, 2014 11:11AM) (new)

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments First, I'll tell you how I discovered the series.

Here I was in Walmart, searching through the big container of books when I found one called "Kiss of he night" or in my lenguage "El beso de la noche". Then I read de synopsis, and I thought. Ohhh down there it says that "Sherrilyn Kenyon in the queen of the vampiristic novels." So I bought it. Then I made some research and I found out that it wasn't the first one in the series. So I dowloaded Fantasy Lover. And by the trird chapter, I think, I was completely in love with the book. By the time I finished it, I knew that I was going to continue 'till I ended The Guardian (the last that was out at the time) I even remember the date I started Fantasy lover because is the same day that my grandpearents gave me my tablet: it was April 13

message 2766: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments Charlotte, I haven't been reading that much longer than you. And shooting is so much fun! I have my own 9mm Glock that I unfortunately haven't been able to shoot much since I got it. Hoping to get some practice time in over Christmas since my whole family is doing a tactical shooting and concealed carry permit class next year.

message 2767: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Oooh, do you read all of SK's books in Spanish, Nicole? =) I gotta say, that would be cool. I can read a bit of Spanish, but not enough to read a book, lol.

Yeah, I haven't shot much either, Rachel. I did a little target practice years ago (my 9mm KGB issue was an engagement present, lol), but I haven't touched a gun in years. I doubt that I could even hit a target these days, even with a shotgun. XD

Another funny mini-story: My husband gave me the shotgun as a Valentine's Day present one year. If that doesn't say love and trust, I don't know what does. XD

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Actually, Charlotte, my home lenguage is Spanish. But I've read all the books in English.

Oh my God he does trust you so much ahaha

Veronica (flowerpot) | 263 comments For me it was 2012 and I was working at that time in a seaside town during the Olympics (London 2012) during one of my free weekends I went shopping and I bought a Charlaine Harris book ( which I still haven't read!) and Fantasy Lover was a free add-on. While waiting for my train I started reading it and I was hooked! Since then it has been it has been a lovely journey.

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments And it'll be that way for a long time xD

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Q. 5 What was the last WORST book you have read?

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Mmm I'd say, and please don't hate me, sense and sensibility by Jane Austen

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments What about you?

message 2774: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Don't hate you at all. I'm not a big fan of the classics save for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Oh and Count of Monte Cristo. Beyond those two, no clue.

As for me has been quite a few over the years, lol. But to date was Beautiful City of the Dead. Definitely not one of the best thought out books in the least.

Also Shari and I are doing a fun 20 questions and answers thing with Charlotte so everyone can get to know more about her as our newest mod. So feel free to ask her a question as well when you have the chance. :)

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments This is for her or is it in another thread?

message 2776: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments No, no, not the whole thread is for her, haha. Just intermingling the questions over here. In case people wanted to add their own questions too along the way. And also breath a bit of life into this thread all at the same time.

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Ohhh Awesome then. Maybe. Who gave her her first book and what that book was?

I definitively have to google Grant Gustin now as I am still looking for a Valerius look alike (my fav DH).

Not sure about a question right now, but I will try to get back soon and ask something really deep and wise.
NOT. XD

Ha, Cherale, how can you not like the Count of Monte Christo??? It has everything, adventure, revenge, romance/love, sword fights, intreague... something for everyone. ;)

As for worst book, I tend to try and forget that I ever read them but I can look one recent (2013) up, oh and I remember I deleted one book from my kindle-4-pc because it was awefully edited and full of spelling and grammar mistakes.

Been scouring the local library's bookshelves after been going through all my fav writers Mary Balogh and Stephanie Laurens (historical/regency romance) and Charlaine Harris' Sookie series for something new and came across Vane's and Bride's book. What hooked me was being dumped by FED-EX and I became a fan when I read that really beautiful and hot and sexy scene of Vane making love to Bride in her store. I loved that Bride is a bit on the voluptous side as I am and still did land a hottie like Vane. Since then I have my favs in all parts of the Kenyonverse. Vane=WH, Valerius=DH, Cratus/Jericho=demi god, Thorn=demon (yeah, I can't remember who I like from the DrHs the most).

He has done some movies too. Such as Madea's Family Reunion, Set It Off, Deep Impact, Something New, and a no doubt quite a few others. The ones I've seen him in though, he was rather arrogant. And was why I was saying he'd make a great Valerius if he wasn't black. But I guess to correct myself I should say. If Valerius WAS black he'd be perfect.

message 2794: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Wow, so much to catch up on here! =)

Thank you, Manuela, for the kind words (and glad to meet a fellow redhead on the board ;D). And not to worry, I get the same way, sometimes, about reading--which is basically to shut out the rest of the world, lol.

Yep, Grant Gustin is a hottie (and the more I look at his pic, I do think either a Squire, or perhaps a Were-Hunter, lol), as is Blair Underwood, whom I first saw in L.A. Law. Oh yes, and I can see him turning up his nose at penironi. XD

Everyone is welcome to ask me questions, and I do enjoy reading your responses to the questions posted here as well! =D

So ... on to my questions:

1. The worst book I've ever read
Hmmm. Now that one, I've got to really, really think on. At one time, I would have said that there wasn't any book that I disliked, but then I tried my hand at War and Peace, which became a major snooze fest for me early in the book, so I never finished it.

When I got my Kindle, I discovered a number of books that I wasn't fond of (all free, go figure XD). But the one that REALLY had my eyes rolling was Deadly Offerings, by Alexa Grace. I seriously could not finish that book, because the story simply became so ridiculous. The spelling and grammar mistakes didn't help, either.

There was another story I intensely disliked, about a teacher falling in love with her unknown stepbrother, but heck if I can remember what the title was. Again, too many editing mistakes, and the story just ... flowed wrong, if that makes any sense.

2. Who gave me my first book and what was it?
Do children's books count? XD

My mother is a MAJOR bookworm, so I've been around books all my life. And if children's books count, then I'd say that my first book was probably The Pokey Little Puppy, given to me by my mother. ;) And she gave me quite a few books when I was young.

Actually, I want to say that the first book my mother gave me, that wasn't a children's book, was The Call of the Wild, by Jack London. =)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Aww, that is awesome your mom introduced you to books Charlotte. Definitely a great way to open one's young mind and create a healthy imagination too.

And another like minded woman to my taste, yes I loved the Count too. ;)
In my immediate family we all are readers. My dad used to read books, my mom introduced me to the romance books (similar to Harlequin), my older brother was more into scientific books while the younger one collected science fiction novels and had at one stage over 10.000 of them on a bookshelf along the wall of his room.
