When I lived with my family in Germany we would have real trees for a very long time. But eventually one gets sick of finding needles in the carpet even a year later (and we vacuumed on a regular basis) so my mom bought an artificial one.
Here in Australia it is too hot for a real one. We have a green artificial one and once it is decorated it looks pretty cool.

Shari-amor | 5275 comments QOTD: What are some of your favourite Christmas movies? Are there some that you traditionally watch every year!?

message 2703: by Mare (new)

Mare Hernandez (mare9548) | 35 comments Any version of Christmas Carol. I don't care if it's animated or with actors, classic setting or modern. I just love that story.

message 2704: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments That is ironic you say that one Mare9548. As I like the one Christmas Carol story with Bill Murray. But the one with my boy Patrick Stewart wigs me out every time. Especially with that dude playing as Marley, looking like a dead trout head in the door knocker. Freaky! I'd change my ways alone looking at that thing on my door lol.

message 2705: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Whaley (beckers77) | 386 comments I like the Christmas Carol with Albert Finney. He cracks me up when he gets drunk. I also like the Santa Clause. Love actually and the Family Stone are good too.

message 2706: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Hahahaha @Cherale. A dead trout head.

message 2707: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I actually watch a lot of Christmas movies every year. The Santa Clause is one of them. Also Home Alone, Elf, Polar Express, A Christmas Story, the animation of Santa Claus is Comin To Town, Jack Frost, A Year Without Santa Claus. I've added Arthur Christmas and Rise of The Guardians to the list as well this year.

Do y'all have movies on your lists that aren't technically Christmas movies but are set during the Christmas holiday!?

message 2708: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments OH YES, I love the Family Stone too. Tough movie for SJP's character but was really good. I wan tot kick Elf's butt as often as they have played it at times. I do love the Santa Claus movies with Tim Allen too. And the one Christmas movie with Edris Elba, Chris Brown, and several other black actors. Gah can't recall what it is right now. And I definitely want to see the Miseltones with Tia Mowery and Tori Spelling but they won't play that one at all this year on Hallmark.

That Edris Elba one is set during the Christmas holiday for sure. But has other stuff going on. Brother gets carted to jail for going AWOL, discovering new pregnant daughter-in-laws, cheating spouses, etc. Ooooh wait Soul Food might be another one like that too I think.

message 2709: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Haha well he does. I can't find the pic of him in the knocker but here he is-

Definitely not a mug you want to come visit you about anything. EVER!

message 2710: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments This Christmas!!! Lol that's one with Idris Elba. Goodness that man is sexy. My fav part was when Regina King whooped her husband in the bathroom with the belt after pouring baby oil on the floor. I swear I died laughing

message 2711: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Hells yes! That is the name and that is MY scene too, lol. Momz and I die laughing sooooo hard over that every freaking time it happens. It's too great! LOL

message 2712: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments lmao just christmas movies in general :I

message 2713: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments A classic Christmas Eve movie is "Little Lord Fountleroy" with Sir Alec Guinness, Connie Booth and Ricky Schroder, then we have a classic "Drei Haselnuesse fuer Aschenbroedel" (losely translated "three hazelnuts for Cinderella") it is a Czech/East German co production which is shown on all third programmes in Germany each December and I do have it on Video and DVD. I recently bought "the Muppet's Christmas Carol" with Michael Caine (I think he is a sir too).

message 2714: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments i have the muppets christmas carol too manuela XD

message 2715: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments Do I ever! White Christmas, The Lemon Drop Kid, Holiday Inn, Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, The Santa Clause, The Nutcracker, Home Alone, the Patrick Stewart Christmas Carol.

My local movie theater is doing the Retro Cinema stuff, and we've been to see White Christmas and Home Alone. In two weeks we're going to see National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

message 2716: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Oh wow. Thats hella cool, Rachel. I never thought to check out my local theater to see Christmas movies. I know it does it but I never thought to go.

message 2717: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments That is pretty awesome Rachel on the retro movie theater. But yes, I love the Home Alone movies. The first 3 for sure. And the Holiday with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law. Oh and the one holiday movie with Queen Latifah and LL Cool J was pretty sweet too.

message 2718: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments You know I really loved Jack Black in that movie. He wasn't as over the top as he usually is in comedies.

message 2719: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Is the one with Queen Latifah where she finds out she only has a few months to live so she goes on a last vacation!?

message 2720: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (last edited Dec 03, 2014 05:03PM) (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I so agree with you about Jack Black in that. Maybe that is why I loved it so much. He was really sweet and soulful in a way. And definitely less over the top.

Yeppers that is the one for QL. Heck for all I know it COULD be named Last Holiday but I can't recall, lol.

But ya know what is the real kicker? I've often heard various folks say at times how much they love that It's a Wonderful Life movie during the holidays. And yet not one of us has mentioned liking it just yet.

message 2721: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments It's a Wonderful Life isn't a favourite of mine though. I enjoy it and will watch it if its on but it wouldn't make it on my favourite list. lol

You know I didn't really like Cameron Diaz in The Holiday. She didn't do it for me. I loved everyone else in the movie though.

message 2722: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments To be honest I've never even seen It's a Wonderful Life. I'm not big on the black and white flicks too much.

I second that about Cameron Diaz. Being the stuck up chick definitely was not meant for her at all. Especially after so many years as seeing her as the goof ball. I also didn't like her in Bad Teacher. Was trying too hard.

message 2723: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Smith (rlsauthor) | 626 comments I like It's A Wonderful Life now that I'm all grown up, but it's not one I have to watch every year, let alone multiple times. We wore out our White Christmas VHS three years before it came out on DVD. Twas a very sad three years while we waited for it.

message 2724: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ah, I hear ya Rachel. It sucks when it's always our fave stuff that gets the hit cause we like it so much at times.

message 2725: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I have the holiday too, I like it but it is not my fav. And I agree with Jack Black, he was so normal and sweet in that movie and I think he and Kate Winslet had a good chemistry in this movie. And it is one of the few movies where I like Jude Law.

message 2726: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Amaya wrote: "i have the muppets christmas carol too manuela XD"

I grew up with the muppet show and I love Michael Caine.

message 2727: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments I like a variety of Christmas shows. I like A Christmas Carol (though my favorite version is Scrooged, with Bill Murray), as well as White Christmas, Holiday Inn, A Christmas Story (as long as it's only showing once, lol, instead of constantly for 24 hours), and of course A Charlie Brown Christmas.

My husband and I also like Bad Santa, with Billy Bob Thornton. Definitely not traditional (and most definitely not for the kiddies) but hella funny. XD

message 2728: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ooooh thanks you for saying the name. Scrooged that's it with Bill Murray. I swear I need some Wheaties in my stocking or something in regards to my memory, haha.

message 2730: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Alrighty, in honor of getting to know more about our fellow new mod Charlotte. We thought it would be fun and clever to play a quick game of 20 questions. I'll start us off.

Q. 1 When it comes to watching tv in your down time. Which do you prefer to watch: Reality tv shows or situational dramas?

message 2731: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments *rubs hands together* Alrighty, my first question!

I greatly prefer situational dramas (and comedies) over reality tv. In fact, I tend to avoid reality tv shows like the plague.

message 2732: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Reality shows are the devil lol

Q. 2 Favourite season and why!?

message 2733: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Autumn. =)

I love, love, love the colors--I'm a redhead with hazel-green eyes, so fall colors look best on me--and I like the cooler temperatures. (I'm not fond of extreme hot or cold temperatures, lol.)

And I've always been partial to the clothing that comes out in the fall. =D

message 2734: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments And can't forget the kick off to the big holidays starts in Autumn too. Not to mention caramel apple season!!

message 2735: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Pumpkin everything!

message 2736: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Although my preference for clothing is a crop top, ripped jeans and flip flops. I do enjoy layers in the fall

message 2737: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Hate to be the Grinch, but I'm loathing the pumpkin everything. Even pumpkin spice peanut butter? Ewww. :(

message 2738: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments pumpkin spice peanut butter!? uh yeah that's a no for me. Peanut butter should NEVER be flavored with anything. I love peanut butter. It doesn't need any help lol

message 2739: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Shari-amor wrote: "Although my preference for clothing is a crop top, ripped jeans and flip flops. I do enjoy layers in the fall"

Oh nice. Being born and raised in Ohio I don't think I've ever had an opportunity to do a crop top situation. And I leave the ripped jeans to my cuz. Too many random air drifts and such around here come the fall, lol.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Shari-amor wrote: "pumpkin spice peanut butter!? uh yeah that's a no for me. Peanut butter should NEVER be flavored with anything. I love peanut butter. It doesn't need any help lol"

Exactly! What is the worst is that it's out by my fave PB company, Jiff! I loves me some of their creamy with some grape jam. But then they put out the limited edition Pumpkin Spice and I just keep thinking "WHHHHYYYYYYY???"
description

And honestly, how in the world can people eat or drink any more pumpkin spice stuff during that time of the year? I mean it's in so many things than just coffee now, that I'd think your taste buds would have to rebel after a certain point.

message 2741: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Q. 3 If you had to be rescued by and later have said individual become your love interest in a romantic, action, movie(hypothetically of course), which superhero would it be and why? :)

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Superhero...Mmm I think batman...Beause, he is like all that night-thing that I like.
Which would you choose?

message 2743: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ya know from the later movies definitely batman. Have to admit those are some sexy sculpted suits he had on. And yea I had such a thing for Val Kilmer and Michael Keaton when they played him. But more than anything, I've always loved Spider-man. He can take a butt kicking and keep on kicking. That resilience is epic.

What about you Charlotte?

message 2744: by Charlotte, Cheesy Cakes (last edited Dec 11, 2014 12:15PM) (new)

Charlotte (charkro) | 1798 comments Hmmm ... you know, this probably sounds a bit silly, but I've always had a thing for the Green Arrow, from the Justice League. His character is sort of like Batman, but with a sort of Robin Hood twist, using a bow and arrow to fight crime.

I've always been fascinated by archery, though I can't use a bow and arrow to save my life. XD

Haven't had a chance to see the series Arrow yet (I plan to, eventually), but man, that dude does look yummy. =)

Oh, and I agree about the overuse of pumpkin spice in everything. Half the time it tastes nasty.

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments You are now one of my best friends. Have to see Arrow ASAP yesterday another chapter was released and I almost die...You'll see why whe you watch the series. And yes, he is way too hot

message 2746: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Funny you mention the Arrow, the fam and I have been watching him since he came on. And actually did like his character when he was first introduced in Smallville(that actor was just as hot as the one starring in Arrow in my humble opinion, haha). And yea it is a good show. Definitely one to watch when not distracted. Kind of on my list of shows like The Originals, that I reserve for later in the week when I can concentrate better on it.

But I'm with you, I've always been fascinated by archery. I've tried it a few times back in summer gym when I was in high school as one of the activities. Needless to say I sucked terribly. But still loved it though.

Oh and can I add the guy that plays the Flash to my superhero/love interest post? He is soooo freaking cute and kind of dorky in a way. But just so sweet too.

Nicole *TheRoseAndTheStar* | 886 comments Ohhh one of my best friends loves the Flash!! And he is so lovely when he appears in Arrow.

I'd like to try archery sometime and gun-shooting too

message 2748: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments charlotte's answers to the questions get my vote hahaha

message 2749: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Yea that was a pretty wicked cross-over event they did. Also great way to show the difference in the character's worlds too. Kind of like the grit of Gotham where things are more cut throat for Arrow and yet lighter and less serious(even though it was) tone like in Spider-man, but for the Flash. Was really interesting.

For sure be careful with both Nicole. I remember catching a news report where this 12 year old girl was learning to shoot at this restaurant/gun range. And accidently shot and killed her instructor. His family didn't charge her's or anything. But still was just so surreal to me.
