Well thanks. Yea, I've always loved reading and talking about books and in general can be more of myself online. As weird as that sounds, I just don't have to put up as many pretenses or anything than in real life. Cause the peeps that matter already know I'm awesome and don't have to prove a thang! And in general, when it's something I love I will give it my all or best I could. Group and all. :D
So true. Although, the review blog never got that far. Was more like the parties I was working with that I was friends with not really liking each other after a time. And then jumping on me about things. And was just yea, down the crapper before it started. But all the same I'm glad to be done with it.

I'll get you on Bourbon Street and you'll both (Amaya included)shed that introvert aka wall flower persona, just sayin'. So many that visit are not from here but they ALL fit in when on Bourbon Street! No one cares. They just cut up, cut loose and join the big melting pot( like gumbo...lol) and live a little. I love taking visitors to the Bourbon Cowboy. Everyone who visits MUST ride the bull!
Crawfish, crab and/or shrimp etouffee, shrimp creole, jambalaya, red beans and rice, crab cakes and gumbo oh my...lol We do eat well here. Not much else to do. Lots of history to dig into. Swamp tours are out being that ya'll don't appreciate our bat size mosquitos! They don't discriminate though. Good ole Southern or Yankee blood will do...lol And the gators are just as happy to "play" too.

New Question: How did you get into the romance genre!?

It was actually through reading historicals. History is my favorite subject, and since I was going through kid/YA books so fast by the time I was 11, my mom started giving me some of her Christian historical romances to read that coincided with things we were studying in school (I was homeschooled). I was hooked from page two of the first one, and have never looked back. Lori Wick, Gilbert Morris, and Judith Pella--titans in the Christian romance world--created my love of romance. The latter is partly responsible for my love of all things Russian.
As I got older the hero preference started showing up, and when I started writing fiction about 15 years ago that's how things came out. The first original characters I ever created were a group of brothers, and the first historical character I ever created was a young man living in late 19th century Russia. All of them still live in my head.
The first writing I ever let other people read was Hardy Boys fan fiction, co-written with my sister. And even when going through my teenage girl horse phase and reading the Thoroughbred books, I lived for glimpses of two particular boy characters and actually sketched out a backstory for one of them.
It's been awhile since I've read much in the thriller department, because I fell so in love with romance. One of my BFF's made me read Born of Night in March, 2013 because she knew Nyk hit every single hero requirement I have, then talked me into trying the first DH too. I've been exploring PNR for the last year and a half and finding lots of strong heroes and quite a few books that meet my need for a hero worthy of falling in love with. Basically any variation of Ash is going to make me fall madly in love.
A year and a half later I own all but three DH, am acquiring The League, and Styxx was my very first novel pre-order. Even though I wasn't even to Val and Tabby yet when it came out. I'm down to three books between me and Styxx and I'm excited about getting Max's story next year. And of course as soon as the next League books are up for pre-order I'm getting them too!
Four words, older cousin and Harlequin books. She was working as a home care worker to one of her patients who gave her a sack of books. Being the known reader in the family she passed them on to me. Prior to that, it was teen, YA, and urban fantasy. After reading those first ones, really made me wonder what people meant when they called romances trashy as I haven't gone back since reading the Harlequins. I just progressed from them to PNR, Contemporary, Erotic Romance, and surprisingly back around to some of Harlequin's latest books too.
it was one of those catalogs for book memberships. the cover of a book looked pretty cool so i tried it out.
I was heavy into horror and thrillers as a kid well into my teens. My cousin let my momma borrow The Long Walk Home by Danielle Steel and Summer Sisters by Judy Blume . When she finished, she let me borrow em. I was like 12 and started going to the library to check out more of their work which led me to a lot of Nora Roberts. I loved the happy endings. They were nothing like the broken relationships that I grew up with. It was nice to read about people so madly in love. I've never really believed in true love in everyday life even as a kid so I liked seeing it in books.
Same here Shari. I couldn't believe the depths of romance and happy endings in the Harlequin books. I mean sure I grew up with family members and family friends having all kinds of relationships. But even if they stayed with people for years, they still seemed to have more issues than actual happiness.
I never had that disconnect between my real life and what I read about in romances. My paternal grandparents are celebrating 61 years next, month. If my maternal grandparents were still alive they'd be celebrating 66 years next month. My parents just hit 36 years, and are more in love now than ever before. I am not embarrassed by PDA's because my parents do it all the time. None of us bat an eye at seeing them wrapped up in a heated kiss while standing in the middle of the kitchen.It wasn't until the last four years that divorce showed up in my family, and one of them surprised no one. Mine was the shock. It did make me give up on happy endings for a couple years because it was such a bad situation (abusive, but thankfully I got out before it crossed the line into physical). Still, the emotional wounds were deep.
In my world divorce and broken relationships are not the norm. Happy endings are. And I'm so very thankful for it.
I've read a few of the Harquelin romances. I don't know if they still have em but on their site, they had free online short reads that I used to like.
Very happy you got out of that, Rachel and even more that it didn't skew your outlook on love for too long. I'm sure seeing the relationships around you helped much. It's really nice hearing about long, happy relationships. Makes me feel all aaww. I am a sucker for a love story but then I look around the people around me and I can't do nothing but smh. It's quite sad
That is truly awesome and you were most lucky to have that within your family Rachel. I'm sorry you experienced a bad time of things in your marriage as well. But hey, always a second time around and can get up there with your folks when the right one comes along. I really wish for that one day as well.Ah yes, I used to love the freebie stories from Harlequin as well. Used to love the round robin they had on there too. First time I had ever heard of one before and gave many props to the ladies that were so creative. I could be wrong. But from last time I checked their site, from what I thought I remembered of the address anyway. It looked like the site was just for buying books from there now. Which is good but unfortunate. As that community seemed to be gone.

Ah so you have to have some other element with your romance, Nette!? No chick lit for you!? I started out chick lit and heavy romance but it got boring and predictable after awhile. I need other elements now.
I'm ironically growing into some chick lit after reading romance and historical fiction. As most of the chick lit stories I have come by are a bit too superficial. So yea, I like more action and stories that tap into other aspects of the human experience.

To be politically correct it is historical fiction about Egyptians and henry the eighth types. *said with a snooty look* lol. But hey I managed to make it through SK's historical romances and a few other authors. So I'm getting stronger some how or other.

Somewhat. Still a slow process and crave far more PNR.
I got into romance after I read a bunch of UF and stumbled upon the first book in the IAD series by Kresley Cole. After that I was hooked. I read all the books that she had out and went from there. I read some historical romance as well, mostly highlander stuff, and I have read some contemporary romance but, I find that I need more action and adventure than most contemporary novels can give.

I wasn't feeling the book and really not caring for the movie. But yea, they could pull the select theaters thing where you are as well Jennifer. Never know, but as it's for sure a sexy movie it's gonna be selling somewhere and some how.
haha Also didn't care for the books but I might go see the movie. I liked the trailer and Im a fan of Jamie Dornan from Once Upon a Time. I've read plenty of books that I couldn't stand but ended up enjoying their movies so I'm open to watching it....and you two are a bunch of regular comedians for that book recommendation lol
Yea, I loved Jamie in Once Upon a Time. But dude they are so frying his bacon from that trailer that went out today. From what I saw on Access Hollywood some folks was already saying they should have hired hotter people. But I totally thought Jaime was yummy with the scruffy facial hair. But I guess smooth shaven, is not working for him. *innocent look* Little ol' us!?!? ;P
Yeah people were really putting him and the actress down. Not buff enough, not sexy enough, she didn't look young or innocent enough. I thought they were great. I love scruffy Dornan but I could learn to appreciate smooth shaven. And I loved Beyonce's remake of 'Crazy in Love' for the trailer. It fit perfectly
Ya know, I hate when people say that at times about characters. I mean I may not have read the 50 books or anything similar to them really. But dude sometimes there can be "powerful" characters that are as scrawny as Adam Levine and don't need all the muscles. And also regardless of what the chick looks like doesn't mean she can't portray being innocent. Ugh, I swear I wish folks could see with more than their eyes at times. And yea, mini props for changing up the Crazy in Love song too. Made it edgier for the movie to say the least.
LOL what! we were just trying to help u out shari >.>. thought u might like something a little different from ur other books :I.they do that for a lot of movies. ppl were tearing the actors/actresses apart for the vampire academy movie. it was really harsh. O_o idk what their prob was. it would be physically impossible to even have a guy from irl to look the way one of the guys is described in the va book. i get matching chars closely but seriously... books are made up ppl, its massively hard to find irl ppl to look exactly like them O_O.
And if they do like the Harry Potter dude. I'm completely wigged out! O_O I mean it was like cute kid on the covers to, dude why is that kid a real life person!?!?!?!

Yeah they haven't even seen the movies yet. Wait to pass judgment then. Not to mention the author is involved with the movies so I'm pretty sure she felt the actors would portray her characters to the best of their ability. Everyone is basing it off of their own perceptions though. They need to get over that.
I thought I heard the author wanted Robert Pattinson at one point. But yea he wasn't feeling it and then even she had to branch out to the other fellas out there. Which is good, gives other peeps a chance to break into the Hollywood world.
Yeah true. I know there was another actor actually attached to this but after a few weeks, he decided he didn't wanna do it and they had to find someone else quickly before they started shooting for the film. I'm definitely glad that a real big name actor isn't doing it though. I like when other lesser known actors are given a chance to prove themselves

As vocal as I am, believe it or not, I was a wall flower(an introvert) among my very loud and chatty family. They are such a busy bunch of people that I enjoyed watching them interact. It's almost like going to a movie...lol All's needed is a bucket of popcorn because when they gather, the show is about to begin...lol My mother was a ring leader in the pot stirring addition to these gatherings!Most days I couldn't get "a word in" if my life were dependent on it...lol I've learned from the best to be assertive if I want to be heard and not left on the sidelines, so to speak.
You do great on here. You communicate very well with everyone as far as I've seen. You're a major pot stirrer yourself on this thread. When things get slow, you throw in your big spoon and stir things up with your questions of the day and so forth.
If someone wants a review and doesn't like what's been said then they've gotta toughen up. Because not everyone's gonna agree about things. And it's called a a review for a reason, right?
