message 1101: by Ally (new)

Ally | 325 comments Old question - definitely bring a gift of some kind. Usually the couple are giving you food and paying a lot for the day and whatever you give them will hopefully give great memories. My friend got married last month and they asked for donations for the honeymoon so they could do more, which was a great idea.
My hubby and I had our reception in a field and we asked people to bring something little to hang on the tree, it was lovely and I now have a box full of little things (from a music note cut out of paper to a crystal) that remind me of our day :)

New question - I will be spending the summer getting my toddler ready for nursery, settling her in etc ready for me to start uni in September :) half good half bad....going to be an interesting few months!!

message 1102: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Working on rehabing my knee from surgery to get all the usual house stuff doen myself, and looking forward to my niece's wedding on labor day weekend in Canada. And to relate to yesterday's question, they actually put in the invite they do not wish to recieve any gifts, and asked any money on gifts be donated to big brothers/big sisters in their name.

message 1103: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments bringing gifts or sharing in a money collection so that the people can buy what they want and need.

Summer? That is still 4 months away, LOL. Hopefully we'll be going to Germany then where it's going to be winter...

Ray (warrior of randomness) XP | 1837 comments it is summer now

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Yes, sweety, for you and all the other ppl on the northern hemisphere, but I am at the end of the world, hardly clinging to the planet as I am hanging upside down in Down Under... ;)

Well what are your plans for current seasons in your area Manuela? And have you actually seen any kangaroos up close? I've always wondered that for those living in Aussie territory.

message 1107: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (last edited Jul 12, 2013 09:41PM) (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments More chores around the house, avoid getting drowned out in the rain coming back. So no real major summer plans for me and the fam. Wish there was, we had planned on doing some festival visits in Columbus. But everything keeps getting washed out. And momz health probs are acting up too with the rain as well. So home James for us.

New Question- What are your thoughts on multiple baby showers?

message 1108: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I have to say I'm not opposed to having more than one baby shower for other children than the first born. May not have to be the traditional gift giving of the first. But I think it would be pretty good idea to have subsequent baby showers for fellow children. Just so the mom can get more tips over some of the latest baby equipment as so much of it is constantly being recalled all the time. And so she is aware of the latest trends and what not. I also think if the shower is done in a particular way, maybe it could be like a pampering session for the mom and her friends before the latest baby is born too. So yea, I'm for it, just all in how you go about it.

New Question- If you were given the chance to petition to keep your local bookstore open. What would you say to help keep it open, if anything?

message 1109: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I have seen wild kangaroos hopping along our car when we drove down to Victor Harbor and then over to Cape Jarvis (the gateway to kangaroo island). In the Adelaide Hills I saw my first wild koala but unlike the imagination of millions of people who never been to Australia, no Kangaroos do NOT hop across the streets in the major cities. LOL
I am saving up for our trip to Europe/Germany. Now I have to plan a stop over in SunCa to pick up all my winings from diverse giveaways and contests.
Baby showers? I haven't been to any, we sometimes collect at work for someone we really like.

message 1110: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I think I would make a point that even though the ebook revolution is upon us. There is nothing wrong with still printing classics and really awesome authors in hard/paper back covers for those of us that want to own a physical copy and not just one in e-format.

Haha good to hear Manuela. As I've seen pictures of someone in another country. I can't remember which that had some kangaroos just out on a road somewhere. It was just super wowza to my little brain. As the most wildlife I've seen in the city are deers, squirrels, rabbits, and possums. Smelled plenty of skunks too but never actually seen one. So to say the least it would wig me out to see a kangaroo close up without zoo interference.

Sounds awesome too on the winnings collection as well. Was it a contest that you entered or something you had to submit to win?

New Question- What's been your latest WTF moment? Dare to share what it was about? Did you make it through the other side? Or still experiencing it?

message 1111: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments The last WTF moment was a couple of hours ago when I read paperwork for Anthony from his doctor (what he has to do prior to his colonoscopy).

It says three days prior you have to... but hey the procedure is sceduled in two days!!! So WTF...

Two contests, and two giveaways...

message 1112: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Mine started over the weekend and is continuing. Got a new air condioner installed last year. Now that i need it becuase i am in Michighan and in the middle of this heat wave w/200% humidity, etc., it is not working. Waiting to hear back from the company that installed it. Then when checking the area in the basement, where an old seal from the previous vent was in the wall is leaking. We have been getting way too much rain, but really? I have a bad mouth anyway so WTF was only one of the comments i made. I so don't have money for anything. Where is the money fairy or a nice hot, rich guy to help me out?

message 1113: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Is it something that can be overlooked Manuela or no!? Have y'all contacted the doctor about it yet!?

My WTF moment happened over the weekend. A good friend (the big dummy that likes jumping out of planes with strangers) sent me a very uh intimate confession drunk text. Admitting things he shouldnt since he has a girlfriend. Drunk texts/calls are never a good idea. You say things that can never be taken back. If I see him I'm punching him in the face for making our friendship awkward and being a douchbag

message 1114: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Hey Shari,

Side note to ya, Sharknado is coming back on TV this Thursday on sci-fi channel if you get it.

message 1115: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Must set to record now!!

Thanks Cherale :-)

message 1116: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Wow sorry to hear about all this from you guys. Those are truly some WTF moments for sure. Mine is in relation to my mom. She has just discovered that all the blood she has been giving to the local hospital for blood work for her doc appointments she has (which are pretty frequently. As she is one to have one problem segue into another medically), and as it turns out that do to her feeling really weak lately and going to the doc and finding out what is going on. She has learned that the docs at the local hospital haven't gotten any of her medical info since January of this year. Even though she has been giving blood regularly for months now.

So we have all been like WTF to that as well as the fact that now she has to go in and get iron transfusions to help make her stronger. It's just really annoying when you expect them to be on top of things like that. But clearly the communication has been off for a while now.

New Question- Family Reunions. Have you been to one? Do you go every year? Or avoid them at all cost?

Carlena | 1753 comments :( this make me was Cherale!

Carlena | 1753 comments I've been to a family reunion. Haven't in a long time but going again soon. I love them!

message 1119: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Well, if I get my ass of the couch to sort out my passport I will have my family reunion in December, LOL.

message 1120: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Don't really have family reuinons. Usually the closest we get is a wedding or funeral. But most of my family is in the area. We are actually planning a cousin get-togther once the cheecake factory opens in the area (and plan on asking of Penny works there...LOL) but that is about it.

message 1121: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Had one for the 4th of July. We have reunions every major holiday or at least we try to. In Va I didnt go to any of them and they hold just as many but I'm not a real fan of my dads side of the family.

message 1122: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Actually had my first fam/couple of cousins, uncles, and aunt's meet up in Chicago a few years ago. I'll admit I was pretty nervous about it at first as I'm not that much of an out going person and pretty much everyone on my momz side of the family is just in your face, loud, and kind of looney tunes at times lol. But I managed to get through it. I was still nervous a bit but it was worthwhile.

I have met a few peeps from my dad's side of the family when his mom passed away last year. So like your fam, Valerie. We tend to meet up on that side too during funerals. Nobody is really all that close to do the wedding spiel though. And what is so crazy about it, is they don't care. Which is also why I'm not too fond of my dad's side of the fam either.

Glad you love them so much Carlena. It's good to be around folks that you like well enough to truly enjoy it from start to finish.

Manuela I say get your booty in gear and get on it missus.

New Question- Ever considered trying this trend out ladies? Something new I just read about on yahoo.

message 1123: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments What. The. F. Huh!?
Only an idoit who wants attention douses themselves of flammable liquids and sets themselves on fire all for the sake of a memorable wedding. DEATH IS MORE THAN PROBABLE! ok Shari deep breaths girl. That isnt smart, isnt cute, isnt interesting or whatever logic these brides used.

Ok with that aside (the fire thing that is) I like the trash the dress idea. Being splattered with paint or jumping in an pool (not ocean or river cause that poor woman that died near the waterfall is just....goodness no words). The idea is tantalizing though for me. I'll only ever get married once so I wont be walking down the isle again, children are not in my future so I wont be passing it down to any daughters or daughter in laws, and call me selfish but I dont wanna donate my special once in a lifetime dress to an organization or thrift shop. I wanna make the most of that dress.....I think this idea sounds perfect for me

message 1124: by Jennifer (last edited Jul 18, 2013 08:08PM) (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments I complete agree with Shari-armor on the whole dress on fire thing O_O. That's just completely nuts.

Another thing to think about is women spending thousands on top of thousands of dollars on their dress just to do that o_o.

message 1125: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Hehe! I would do it, otherwise that dress would just sit in a closet or a case in an attic. Plus I know it'll freak my mother smooth out. That is pure satisfaction to me :-D

message 1126: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments LMAOOO that is lovely XD

message 1127: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments It's one hell of a crazy idea for sure. But I so had a feeling this would be up someone's alley. I could probably see doing a paint way of destroying the dress if it wasn't MY OWN dress though. I mean since it's supposed to be a artistic thing too. I would do it for like a museum and do some pics. But not something I've spent my funds on and take seriously.

And what about passing the dress down to one of your sister's kids if they were interested in it one day Shari? I've never considered passing something like that down before to be honest. As marriage is such a up in the air thing for me. I would like to be married. But hey don't know what the future ever really holds in that area.

New Question- How do you feel about knock-offs? Pursues, shoes, jewelry, etc.? Great to own a few pieces, so you can fake it til you can make getting the real thing? or Not your thing and would hate to be caught with a knock-off at all? Speak on it.

I can only laugh about it. These women are too weird for me and hey, Karma is a bitch. I wonder what the widower said after he lost his wife of only a few (moments, hours, days?) on such a stupid cause?
I paid for my dress and I loved it when I saw it, I felt like a princess when I was wearing it. I don't understand what kind of ritual that's supposed to be??? ~shake my head~

Well he didn't clean his colon out properly (according to the doc) but from what he could see there was no big issues there. All previous operation scars look fine, only a few minor issues. That gives me the next WTF moment. I dropped hubby off at the hospital at close to 12 noon as he was sheduled as 2nd patient at 12:30 pm. When I returned to the hospital around 5pm after my physio they told me he was just in the op. WTF? apparently they had to give him desmopressant (don't know if I spelled that one right) to stop him from bleeding. Although they knew they had none there and had to get it from another hospital on the other side of town. Doh!?? Then they had to give that stuff to him within an hour and the hematologist wanted them to wait another 2 hours!!! to see Ant's reaction. They shortened it and he got out at 7pm. We picked up dinner and were home at 8.

New question: If I like it I don't care if it is faked as long as I can afford it, but I have to admit, I haven't come across a lot of fakes who look good because most of the time I don't like the designer stuff either. I am a no name product person and only occasionally I do buy brands. (My domani boots I bought from my first income as an apprentice or the designer jeans I bought in Dusseldorf for 140DM after another boyfriend broke up with me).

message 1129: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments I could care less about designer anything for the most part. I am so not a fashion person. If i like something and can afford it, that is the only thing that really matters to me. I don't even know what current trends are in fashion (yes, i am that bad... if it wer not for work, no one would see me in much other than jeans & t- or sweatshirt) I got a knock-off LV purse at a friends purse party (did not plan on buying anything, but my cheap purse had broken and i needed a new one anyway). That was the biggest waste of money; zipper stuck a bit, and the strap broke in like 6 (maybe 8) months.

I did get a coach purse once because i had a gift card. And i LOVE leather. That lasted the long and was actually well worth the price. Now, if i could just get off my lazy arse and take in for repair, i could use it again. LOL

Brand name doesn't matter to me tbh. if i like something then i'm going to wear it w/e the brand name is and whether its trendy or not. and it would be great to buy stuff without the brand name on it LOL imo. I do own some major brand clothes but i also own non major brand clothes too. just for the record major brand clothes don't last as long in my experience x.x. its all the same stuff as far the regular clothes and "trendy" stuff goes.

message 1131: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I don't care if its designer or not. If it fits, affordable and to my liking I'm buying it whether its name brand or not. I don't consider brands when walking into a store. I will tell you this though I will not wear a shirt or a pair of pants with the logo plastered in huge letters on it. Thats something the kids use to do back in middle school when they wanted everyone to see what that they had the "popular" brands. Nothing like seeing Baby Phat in bold letters on your butt.

message 1133: by Rae (new)

Rae (raereads_romance) | 7 comments Completely agree with everything that Shari said. Name brand never comes to my mind when shopping. I'm a broke college kid so if it fits, is affordable, and comfortable, it's coming home with me :)

message 1134: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Wow Manuela. Is your husband ok now? I mean I guess he is. But with all that going on in regards to having such a simple procedure done is insane. Both of my parents both have had the same thing done before and it wasn't as bad as what it sounds like you and your hubby have been through. I'm definitely sending prayers and much understanding to you guys with regards to what is going on. A butt kick to that hospital as well too.

I love you guys. :) I so don't care about knock offs or labels either. As long as it is fitting me comfortably then it is my kind of clothes or accessories. Take that back though as I did like my Nike's and Sketchers. But never been one for the purses. My mom and my dad's mother had coach purses. But I don't think even they had too much labeled stuff.

I also agree with the labels on the butt and even the quality of the labeled stuff is not the best at all. Went to school with kids that wore those baby phat shoes all the time to the point where the soles wore off within a few weeks. And they would always have to go out and get another pair before the month was out. Totally ridiculous to me.

New Question- Which costumes you like best from ComicCon 2013?

http://movies.yahoo.com/photos/2013-c...

message 1135: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Wow, some of them are really awesome. Feel for the fatchick but do understand where she is coming from. Would have chosen a better costume though. Like all the kids, they are adorable. Some of the girls need to eat!!! The best I would say is the
I think all the fur suits her hair. She is cute. And I love the horns!!! ;)

message 1136: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Yea, I give them all mad props for being so creative. But my fave was the Obama impersonator guy lol. I mean it's hilarious that he didn't even really dress up into anything fancy. Just slapped on a suit and got a political sign and that was it.

New Question- So in light of a friend of mine sharing a interesting post on Tumblr with me about certain celebs not using social media. Megan Fox, Keira Knightley, George Clooney, Megan Fox, Daniel Craig, Kristen Stewart, Prince, and Vanessa Hudgens to name a few.

So my question to all you lovely members is, how do you feel about some of your favorite or not so favorite celebs using social media? Think it is a good idea? Or you don't like that you can't keep track of all their tweets and thoughts?

message 1137: by Jennifer (last edited Jul 21, 2013 04:01PM) (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments personally speaking, i dont really care if they use it or not. i dont use social networking sites as is aside from here (which was just for books when i joined) and tumblr but thats just reblogging mostly. i have a facebook but rarely use it bc it got annoying LOL e.e. Celebs, imo, have every right to have some privacy just like anyone else.

message 1138: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Yeah I dont care. Social networking is the way of the word. They have every right to use it or not, just like anybody else. And on a business front I think it actually allows them to connect better with fans. I mean do people still do the fan mail. Easier access to them on that front but thats my only opinion on it.

message 1139: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments Shari-amor wrote: "Yeah I dont care. Social networking is the way of the word. They have every right to use it or not, just like anybody else. And on a business front I think it actually allows them to connect better..."

yeah, they still do fan mail. i think it's more e-mail than postal mail now but i could be wrong.

message 1140: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Yeah that makes sense. I mean if authors are connecting that way, I'm sure celebs are too

message 1141: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments As for the best costume for Comic Con question. I liked a few of them but I liked the mortal kombat costumes and that the first one, was that a flying monkey!?

message 1142: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Yep, a flying monkey on that first one. And yea I loved the MK ones too. If I could have gone I so would have been a female Scorpion or Sub Zero. Hard to choose between those two.

message 1143: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Ah a sub zero costume woulda been mad cool. I wish there were more x men costumes though. I seen a couple of wolverines in there but I wish there were more

message 1144: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Yea, but I guess there is more anime and other cartoon and show fans these days. X-men is rather classic and might ahve lsot some fans given some of the movies.

I actually always wished they had created a character that was a combo of Scorpion and Sub Zero. I swear I had the damndest time choosing between them when playing the games back in the day. Love that little hand thingie Scorpion had. Even in the movie. And that deep sexy ass voice of the character in the first movie for him "Get Over Here..." Sweet lordy that is stilly sexy to this day to me. Even though if a man ever told me that and it wasn't to save my life in real time, I'd kick him in his balls or something lol.

message 1145: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments >_> -fangirls in the corner over rogue and gambit- LOL

message 1146: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments They go without saying. Gosh I miss them and so many more.

message 1147: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Yeah thats true. Anime seems to be taking over.

I don't remember which game but there is a character that can imitate all of sub zero, reptile and scorpions moves and fatality abilities. And ahaha yes I know what you mean about the voice. Those three words had a whole lotta power behind it.

message 1148: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I friggin love Rogue and Gambit. All that southern charm!!!

message 1149: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments And apparently Wizard of Oz given that flying monkey. Which I still can't believe.

Really? I thought it was Reptile that could mimic them all. Hmm. It's been forever and a day since I've played. So miss it actually.

message 1150: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I actually wished they had done more with both Rogue and Gambit in the movies. I think they were rather sub par and could have been so much more.
