Carlena | 1753 comments Shari we can still dance!

message 952: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Well you have to go through medical school so you need latin to understand medicin and their ingredients.

I just mean because I like coke and I am not really fussed on/with/of pepsi >_<

message 953: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Well you don't have to know Latin here as far as I know. You learn the Latin names if things. Lol

Ah well Shari was being especially ornery. We need to get her a Dom ;) lol

message 954: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Ahahaha! Evil is thy name! She tried to get rid of me but I took a stand. I still think Pepsi sucks, that wont stop you guys from getting me a Dom, right!? *bats eyelashes prettily*

*turns on radio* I'd love to dance!

You know I wonder how those kids who just know what they're gonnna be in life and stick with it no matter their circumstance. I'm always in awe of that.

message 955: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Thanks Shari for standing up to the girls. I love coke, I think I am addicted to it. Since I am quite dominant I might be your Dom, yes? :) ~blushing~

I don't know either how someone could stick to their childhood plans. One of my schoolmates from 1st grade became a heart specialist because his dad and his granddad had been doctors before. My mom used to work for his dad. We played together but have no contact anymore, sadly.
I always knew what I don't want, not really helpful as a career choice.

message 956: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Could be. Although I might warn you, I'd be a bit of a difficult sub. :-P

See that has to take a lot of dedication to stick with that dream.

message 957: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I also wanted to be a lawyer. But I think that was mostly cause I was following my parentals hype over my first word being judge. Since then it switched to HR when I was in high school. I think the only reason I still sort of keep with that, as for me it seems like the only logical and realistic way in which I can help others better themselves(learning various skills from me the training specialist), without going the route of being a teacher or something. I wouldn't mind mentoring though later on and even help set up a better internship center to help students and college grads with that as well.

message 958: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I love that you're on a set path though Cherale. You know what you want to further your career. Love it

message 959: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Thanks Shari. I mean in a sense I've always knew I was going in some steadfast direction. Just actually getting a foot on the path would be great. Just so hard to find some people help me transition into what I'm after. Doing it on my own is building characters but being broke is still more of a bitch than anything else.

message 960: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments You got this girl. I believe in you.

Jennifer | 1747 comments Carlena wrote: "Ok new question of the day!

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you become that?"

A writer even tho when I was little I hated reading books LOL. So very odd o_o. Didn't become it and most likely won't go in that direction since even very, very well known authors don't make much money at all anymore. x.x and during these economic times that just doesn't work out when ure on ur own lol.

message 962: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments New Question- What advice would you give your 10 year old self if you could at your current age? And also what advice/what would you want to learn about yourself from say your 60 year old self from the future?

message 963: by Ally (new)

Ally | 325 comments Old question - I always wanted to be a teacher, and I do still hope to be one in the future. I've just taken the scenic route to get there ;)

New question - To my 10 year old self I would say "it gets better" and "follow your own dreams, not what other people want you to do" and thinking about it I would probably want to hear something similar from my 60 year old self :) maybe with a little "it's all worth it" thrown in there as well.
Who wouldn't want to hear its all going to get better ;)

message 964: by Arianne (new)

Arianne (biatchwithwifi) | 127 comments to my 10 year old self: "keep it up! You're awesome!"
from my 60 year old self: "just wait. greater things are on the way"

message 965: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments to my 10 year old self:"enjoy your childhood years"

from my 60 year old self:"thanks for the decisions you made, we end up exactly where we wanted to be!!!"

message 966: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments 10 year old self: That one time we took more than one piece of candy from the reward jar in Mrs. McBroome class, DON'T DO IT! Also stand up for yourself more and its alright not having lots of friends. If a person makes you feel bad about yourself they are not a true friend. And lastly stop being secretive so much. We didnt learn this lesson till well into high school. Caused more trouble than it was worth and hurt ourselves.

60 year old self: Be free and live life the way you want, never be ashamed of it.

message 967: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments 10 year old self: don't worry about what those kids say. They'll all grow up and have kids in their teens and you'll go to college and have fun. Oh ya, go to more parties in college. ;)

message 968: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I love that advice Carlena.

message 969: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments Lol. Me too. PAR-TAY!!!!

message 970: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Advice to 10 year old self: Those feelings you had that created such self doubt will persist for a few more years. But eventually you'll get to a place where it's not so bad. You'll always have friends, but what is key is keeping track of your sense of self. Work on being more assertive and out going and you will definitely go far.

Advice from 60 self: You have finally made it, there was some rough patches, but you have shook off the drama and trappings that tripped you up in your 20's and it's smooth sailing from here.

New Question- When feeling sick, what is your go to feel better solution?

message 971: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I normally just drink plenty of tea (with honey and a shot of bourbon) and gatorade. I may have crackers and soup. I don't normally do medication but if I absolutely have to then Thera-flu is my remedy.

message 972: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I hate being sick and the worst is when I have a fever. I get restless, can't sleep, can't concentrate ( - so reading is out too :( - ). I usually see the doctor straight away get the heaviest painkillers I can get my hold on (paracetamol with codeine) and then I drug myself till I feel drowsy and go to bed and sleep the sickness off. When I have colds I do drink a lot of tea too, Shari. My mom used to make me chicken/noodle soup when I am sick but now she is too far away for me. :(

message 973: by Ally (new)

Ally | 325 comments I got seriously bad morning sickness when pregnant, they wanted me to go into hospital, the only thing that helped in the end were small tablets that I had to put under my lip each morning, I hate hate hate being sick. I used to carry a bucket round with me, so now when I throw up I just get worried I'm pregnant again lol
I just feel very sorry for myself when I throw up :( but thankfully it doesn't happen very often anymore

message 974: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Do y'all get sick easily!? Like if someone started coughing or sneezing around you, you just know you're done for!?

Aw Ally. :-( That sounds bad. How long did the morning sickness last!? Hopefully it wasn't throughout your entire pregnancy.

I love tea Manuela. Tea just relaxes and makes me happy. Do you normally put anything in yours!? Did your mom make homemade chicken noodle soup!?

message 975: by Ally (new)

Ally | 325 comments Sadly I was sick from 1 month right through to giving birth, horrid! Doesn't happen with everyone but I was being sick on the operating table :S

Oooh, I've always loved the smell of the herbal tea isle!
We used to live near a tea emporium and they made the most amazing teas, my hubby is a tea fiend :)

message 976: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments :-( oh wow, I didn't know it could get that bad.

And I'm jealous. A tea emporium!? A place just dedicated to different teas! That sounds lovely. What kind of different teas have you tried!?

message 977: by Ally (new)

Ally | 325 comments Yeah I was unlucky in that respect but baby was fine so I'm happy :)

The tea emporium is amazing, the shop is on the ground floor and the cafe is in the basement, really old and lovely, decorated with antique tea pots, beautiful.

My favourite were their jasmine bomb things (don't know the name) the come in a little ball that is put in a glass teapot and as it brews the ball uncurls to show a beautiful flower. Just lovely and a really subtle flavour as well :) I miss that place! Must visit!

message 978: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Oh, so sorry to hear but good that everything went well in the end, Ally.

We have a tea shop in Adelaide in the Markets and in my hometown in Germany there was a tea shop as well. I do love tea. I discovered Twinings Infusions for me. They have a Camomille with Vanilla & Honey and Raspberry, Strawberry & Loganberry flavours. When I am sick I have Pure Camomille with honey.

message 979: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Nice to see i am not the only Tea person. However, i drink at least one cup of tea a day anyway. (not a coffee fan). I also don't do many of the flavored teas.

What i do really depends on the sickness. If it is anything to do with my stomach, Vernors is usually my first choice. (sorry..Ginger Ale) It is a pretty strong ginger pop. (also mixes very well with wiskey). I tend to drink lots of cranberry juice if it is most anything else. I occasionally do chicken noodle soup but not often.

Otherwise my usual go to is sleep, sleep and more sleep. or at least lots of time cozy in bed, or on the couch watching TV.

message 980: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Oh those sound really good ladies. Makes me wonder if I have those around here. Probably in the city.

message 981: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Cranberry juice is amazing, Valerie. I drink that as well but since I drink it mostly on a daily basis, it actually upsets my stomach when I'm actually sick

message 982: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I love tea, I usually have peppermint tea or black tea. With nothing.

message 983: by Ally (new)

Ally | 325 comments I don't really drink it much, but when I do we have a fab collection to choose from which is nice :)

message 984: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I'm into green tea for the most part. But not into cold teas at all. Did try some tea with milk in it once and it so tasted like a cream of wheat drink or something. Not bad but kind of weird. Those flavors you mentioned for tea sounds great.

Can't drink Cranberry juice. I've tried that once and it just does not settle well on my stomach.

Wow really sorry to hear about the time you had while preggars, Ally. That had to really be quite the lifetime experience being sick like that.

My folks are into Vernor's as well Valerie. I went along with it when I was younger. But I'm older now and definitely more of a Canada Dry fan myself. Having some saltines, chicken noodle soup, and even though I can't stand it, that theraflu stuff really helps too. Plenty of sleep helps as well.

New Question- What are your thoughts on banning books?

message 985: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Banning as they are too outragious, too explicit, too against some politicial direction, too much violence and foul language???
I don't know, usually banning makes people aware and then more read it as would have if everything would have kept 'hush, hush'. Sometimes I think it is dangerous if someone publishes halftruths or lies but then it is up to the reader to make his or her mind up. If someone would have fed them those lies verbally they still would have believed them. It is an educational thing to believe the written word more or to read between the lines and put whatever you read in perspective to the authors personal and politicial views. Would not promote banning but maybe a warning or a rating like dvds and games have to make sure that books end up in suitable hands.

message 986: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments I do not agree with banning books in any way. I mean, just cause some group does not like something does not mean no one does. Your belief may not be mine. I heard talk of Harry Potter being banned in some areas becuase it was anti-catholic (or some crazy thing like that). It was completly a religious thing.

I know this has been debated in many areas and has been very public. I mean, someone could say they want the bible banned because it is too violent, etc etc. Think that would work? I hold firm to read what you like & want (except for school books of course...most of those we don't want to read but have to) and leave the rest alone! I don't want anyone telling me what i should like/think/be. I agree w/Manuela on a possible warning/rating. Espeically if it had a rating for the sex content..would help me to avoid some of them (not into book porn as i like to call it. Kenyon is as close as i get)

message 987: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments LOL Valerie, some publishers like samhainpublishing do that on the back of the book -kind of with tongue in cheek- but nevertheless warning of explicit sexual content...

message 988: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments As am I, against book banning. It has nothing to do with political or a social aspect, I just don't like the idea of anyone telling me what I can or cannot read. Not everyone has the same interests or taste and just because a particular group of people dont approve of it, doesnt give them a right to take something that I enjoy from me. If you're worried about the content, then yes I also agree put a warning label on it. And I say this because a reader who enjoys controversial reading (books that have been banned from certain websites and libraries). I have to go elsewhere to find these books. That pisses me off especially if they were there but since people complain, they are removed.

message 989: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Hear ya, Shari, but it is everywhere the same thing... you are there first and someone else who comes later doesn't like your nose and asks you to leave.

But I don't mean you have to leave now... I like you big time I don't want you to go, don't understand me wrong, aaarrrgghh I shouldn't say anything further without my solicitor... ~grin~

message 990: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments No, no I wont go. hahaha!

message 991: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments lol I think that would be the safest thing. Although it would look mighty strange that your lawyer speaks for you. You're too outspoken for that :-P

message 992: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Oh well, I do have to bite my tongue in court and it is quite frustrating but hey, as long as I can fight another day...
So it is 2:30 in the morning and I have to go to bed for a few hours before my alarm says get up and go to work... hugs

message 993: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments *HUGS* Night Manuela!! Talk to you later :-)

message 994: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments banning books in what way? due to a specific reason or just in general?

message 995: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Meant banning in general. As there are just so many banned for various reason to pick just one.

message 996: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments I don't believe in banning any books. They should be out there for everyone

Ray (warrior of randomness) XP | 1837 comments books cant be banned cause it violates the first amendment

message 998: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)

Carlena | 1753 comments But they can in other countries. Also a book can be banned here if it is slanderous.

message 999: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Banning books is slanderous :-P

message 1000: by Carlena, Pumpkin Pie/Care Bear (new)
