Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I second the chocolate and German Chocolate Cake. Love milk chocolate like nobody's business. And my dad's mom used to make the best German Chocolate cake I have ever had. I'll throw in cherry cheesecake as well. And also salmon patties and crab cakes my mom has made for my 21st bday. Those were amazing!!

Shari-amor | 5275 comments lol he was in the navy and I was 19, he figured I could station wherever with him if we got married. At the time visiting other countries all for marriage didnt seem so bad

message 67: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I hear ya. Would sound like a ideal situation for sure at the time. But could be such a strain too always traveling around if you are close to your family and all that.

message 68: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I'm very close to my sisters but I've always considered myself pretty independent and to make moves and be ok. A couple of years ago I moved 3000 miles away from them and cried every time I talked to them on skype or on the phone. Baby sister started high school, one of my sisters got married and two had babies. I missed those major events and it hurt. I know I wouldnt of been able to make it if I had went through with it.

Yea, I bet that can be rough. I think I'd be the same way. Although my half siblings have always been much older than me and doing their own thing. So I mostly grew up with my cousins on my mom's side of the family. And even though as we have gotten older and not super close. I think I'd still crave being around them do to the familiarity factor. But then I'd want to go back to doing my own thing again, lol. Just need a touch stone every so often.

I miss a lot what is going on back in homecountry but I made the decission and knew I would be on my own. I have found a few friends here and get more comfortable the longer I am here. I am close with my mom but I have always been independent and hate when I have to rely on the help of others. Some of my friends have children I have never met and although I want to go back visiting I will probably feel not very comfy as I have missed so much and sort of intrude on a dynamic that has been there without me for so long now.

Yeah, I know that feeling. We are going through a rough patch right now and I spoke to my mom who is back home and she asked if I wanted to come home, but I want to stay here. I haven't decided yet, as I love him and hope for better times.

Exactly. I visit every year for about a week and it eases that feeling. I don't know how to describe it. Lol its I'll see them and will catch up but I'll be ready to get back to my life. I also cant stand on relying on other people and love the fact I have the freedom to pick up and go where I want without there being anyone holding me back.

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments - 1st wish would have to be for a Time Lord (the 10th doctor would be preferred.) Since they can travel anywhere in time and space..that would cover quite a few wishes)
2nd...hmm probably some variation of smarter/a few really good friends that don't live in another state...
3rd..enough money to pay off my current debts and maybe a little extra for a few trips to see friends (assuming i did not use the time lord for that). LOL

message 75: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time with things Manuela. Hope things work themselves out for you and the hubs. :)

I hear ya Shar. I wouldn't mind being more independent. But at the same time I have older parents and my mom has always had issues with her health since I was a kid. Some days she is off the charts awesome. Then other days it's like she can't get it together and even regressing back to being on needles to take insulin again for her diabetes, is showing signs she doesn't always have a handle on things. So even if I could afford the opportunity to jet off so many miles away. I just can't do it without feeling crushingly guilty. Particularly with me being her only child and the only other family we have in this state is usually out for themselves. Only come around when they need to borrow something and never pay it back. So I'm in a catch 22 situation of wanting to get out and do my own thing but can't fully do it.

New Question of the day and on a lighter note-What's the best book you've read so far in 2013?

Hang on I have to check on my shelf what I have read so far.

I had a few 5 star ratings this year, started off with Katras book which is actually Sins book, then of cause the BDB books and particular Zsadists story and from Charlaine Harris one of her Aurora Teegarten novels. I do have some m/m stories from amazon that I really liked.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Aww, I'll take that group hug, thanks Shari.

So far I have to say one of the best books I've read thus far has been the first guild hunter book by Nalini Singh. But the year is still young so to speak to get more books in.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments New question of the day: What are your thoughts on UFO's, Ghosts, and even supersitions?

message 84: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I don't think I have any superstitions but I'm not a fan of people having a bunch of mirrors in their house. it creeps me out. I do believe in ghosts though, I've had experiences as a child so I'm a believer in there being something more than us in the world.

message 85: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments How about those UFOs?

I personally believe in ghosts. Also had an experience with them as a child. In our current home. And even my mom said I was able to point out a picture of my grandfather from a dream I had about him. Even though he was dead several months before I was born. As for UFOs, I did mention in another group that I didn't believe in them when the question was originally posed. But what I meant to say was I'm not so arrogant to think we are alone in the universe. Just I don't believe in seeing/sightings on them like so many people have that friend's brother's uncle's sister's niece, saw it while at a bbq/bar mitzvah/ ice cream social/bon fire event they were attending, lol. To me that is just too random. No superstitions for moi either.

message 86: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Yeah I don't believe in UFO sightings either. And I doubt anyone has ever really seen one. Like you said way too random and not enough solid concrete evidence.

message 87: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments I do believe in ghosts but I haven't come across one yet. I stay away from any kind of making contact with the other side as I do not want to be saddled with a soul I cannot get rid off.
I do believe in aliens but I do not believe that they come to earth. Have you checked out where we are in the universe? It is like going to the bronx when you can shop in Manhattan. And why is it that all alien ships land in the USofA?
I am a bit supersticious but I am picky and not believe in anything. I do believe in witchcraft so I am very sparse with my curses. It is frightening when they work.

message 88: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments When you say witchcraft are you talking about Wicca or days of old type of witchery?

message 89: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments white and black magic but I am not a witch at least not practicing (ok one or two curses that were uttered in a heated moment);).

message 90: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I understand there are those types of magic. But are you referring to Wicca the religion or actual practice of the craft? Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier.

message 91: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments both, there are things between heaven and earth that cannot be explained with science. As I said I stay away from things that scare the hell out of me. But I am a believer. I believe in God, there is a hell (everyone has a different understanding of how it looks like) and where good is there is evil. Stories about witches and witchcraft, warlocks and mages have been told for centuries and strangely enough in different parts of the globe (before there was electricity, mail, computers and internet). You can't tell me somebody just made that up. It is kind of where is smoke, there is fire!

message 92: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh well you are talking about a belief system of a different color. I was meaning stuff like salt over the shoulder for luck. Finding four leaf clovers, even carrying a rabbit's foot, lol.

But in regards to all the magicks and what not out there. I say anything is possible. Just pending on what your intent is behind it. Although last I heard "harm none" and the power of threefold. So unless we get some truly days of old evil witches from Oz starting a fuss, I think we are safe.

message 93: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I've never really thought too much into witchcraft but I have people in my family who practice voodoo. I steer clear of them. Messing around with spirits is no joking matter to me

message 94: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Shari-amor wrote: "I've never really thought too much into witchcraft but I have people in my family who practice voodoo. I steer clear of them. Messing around with spirits is no joking matter to me"

Yeah, I would stay clear of voodoo too. It is the same with the seances. Too creepy and you'll never get rid of the spirits you called...

I used to have a four leaves clover in my wallet (When I was a kid we had a lawn in front of my place where hundreds of them were growing) and my lucky number is 13, but I never can make out if the black cat from left to right is bad or from right to left. I don't walk under ladders but I don't throw salt over my shoulder. It is too precious.
One thing I do religiously (although I don't know if it is superstition or tradition) is not to wash clothes between the hollidays. My mom used to tell me it brings bad luck so between Christmas Eve and Epiphany I don't wash.

message 95: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ah, I'm not big on voodoo either. But again to me that is another belief system of another color. Not saying it isn't real cause I don't do it. Just something I don't think about or try and mess with folks that do it either.

message 96: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Dhfan4life wrote: "New question of the day: What are your thoughts on UFO's, Ghosts, and even supersitions?"

So what do you mean by asking that question? If we believe, or practice or stay clear of it, doesn't that state our thoughts? It exists, it is dangerous, don't try it at home, lol.

I once was sitting in a car with a guy at Botany Bay (we were talking about god and the world) when this bright light happened to be on the sky coming toward us and getting bigger and bigger. Just as I took all my courage and asked: "don't think I am crazy but is this an UFO?" it veered to the left. Turned out to be a plane flighing into Sydney airport. hahaha
As I said, why would they want to come to this planet at the end of the galaxy?

message 97: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I was asking/posing the question in a general way, Manuela. As I do know some people either believe in such things or they don't. Sorta like how some peeps religiously avoid black cats, going out on the 13th, or not wearing particular colors or whatever. The lighter side of things. And you did state your thoughts. As have I and others. And I was leaving it at that til you posed the witchcraft and voodoo stuff.

At which point, I will say this about both of those:
The witchcraft and voodoo stuff are practices are like most other religious practices. And very personal for people. So that is why I didn't bring those up. Be like the age old is there a God or isn't there a God debate? Goes back and forth and round and round and don't really accomplish anything other than some people will still believe and others won't. And may even tick some people off given their personal views on it all. And didn't want that.

message 98: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments New Question of the day: How do you feel about children and pets in romance novels? Good idea? Only used as plot devices? Necessary? Unnecessary? Speak on it peeps. :)

message 99: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments aaahh, I read that one on facebook, some of the writers were asking that.
Kids used to be either at the end of the story as part of the HEA or a reason why the hero and the heroine got together again after a long seperation. Nowadays (I think due to all the series) they are a part of the story.
I think a guy who changes diapers looks more human than some of the characters we read about actually are. I haven't read that Artie did change Katras nappies, but Ash would do it (with his younger children), I am sure. ;)

If it fits the story I am ok with it. Kids and pets alike. I don't like the too exotic animals though, but horses, dogs and cats are kind of cool.

message 100: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Manuela, could you re-post your question in the CON general discussion section of the group please? I'm trying to keep the Question of the day thread for general stuff away from the books. And once you post there I can address your question. Thank you.
