Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments I don't know if anyone is into the Outlander series, but three of them are on sale for only $6.95 right now on Audible? They are extremely long books... But, book 1 is only $1.99 on Kindle, and you can get the audio companion for $3.99, so I guess with them all being whispersynced, you don't have to go the sale route :-D

Mtsnow13 | 1115 comments The Complete Sherlock Holmes: The Heirloom Collection is on sale on Audible for only $6.95, and it is NOT whispersynced.. More than 58 hours of listening. Wow.

Thank you for letting us know, Mtsnow. I have the first book in audio and I really liked the narrator, too.

Funny thing — it's such a long book (30 hours or something like that) that when ever I think about the story I have flashbacks from a certain spring and gardening tasks from early spring all the way to midsummer. :-D

They're $8 for me, that's only $2 less than a credit.

I've bought the Sherlock Holmes books seperately for some of those $10 or £10 credits they sometimes provide when you buy 3 books at a certain price, so basically they were free :-)

Nice! I really like the series. I have not listened to Fever Pitch yet, but it's coming up soon.

My new position will involve a bit of driving, so I get to listen to even more audiobooks! I knew I built up that huge collection for a reason! :P I was planning ahead. Yeah, that's the ticket... planning ahead.

Idamus I finished Mistborn: The Final Empire I liked the overall plot a lot, but the MC annoyed me, 3 stars

message 3611: by Becky (new)

Becky Black (beckyblack) I'm listening to Going Postal - still being on a Pratchett kick. And have just downloaded Making Money, which is the next in that series within a series as it were. The Discworld series is so big it has sub-series within it, running parallel to each other, along with books that stand alone and aren't part of any sub-series, but may include characters from them. It's...not that complicated, honestly. :D

Ame | 1744 comments I'm not certain you any of you are acquainted to Faroese music but they really do have some excellent musicians. Especially female musicians and then I'm not talking about performers that get the songs handed to them but artists who write their own music.

Like Greta Svabo Bech

I went there last summer and was blown away by the beauty of the Islands and the music, it's so hauntingly beautiful. It has this vulnerable frailty to it.

I just bought the second and third books in the Dark Horse series by Kate Sherwood since I have been enjoying the first book quite a bit, though today it's frustrating me a tad. Lol. Then saw Hell or High Water by Charlie Cochet, and decided to give that a try. I also bit the bullet and got The Fellowship as well. All in audio.

And she does a great cover of a favorite, Murder in the City by The Avett Brothers. I love her note with the video.

A LOT of auditions, so all I can figure is it's becoming more and more competitive out there for narrators. Lots of people crowding into the audio book market.

Ame | 1744 comments I've often been accused of not having a romantic bone in my body and it's probably right. I'm listening to a book right now who sounded good and the narrator as well but it is so full of cliche romance I'm not sure I can finish it. I burst out laughing every 5 minutes or so once it got to the couply things. I probably need to listen to Boystown or revisit Jake in order to cope.

Odd though that I can tolerate it in Cardeno C. books.

Two narrators whom you have not used yet are Greg Tremblay and Tristan James. They were used by Rhys Ford for her books and are fantastic. Charlie David is another good one. He narrated many of BG Thomas's books.

A lot will depend on the narrator's schedule. Ideally it will be about a month after the print and ebook come out. It would be impossible to have it come out at the same time given how tight all the deadlines are.

It's going to be hard as hell to pick a narrator this time because there are so many really good auditions. The pool of talent is getting bigger and a lot more competitive. And this is really just in the last year. I used to be able to disqualify narrators within the first sentence or two. Now I'm listening all the way to the end thinking...wow, this guy's good!

Charles Carr is very good too, he narrates James Lear's The Hardest Thing.

Well, the truth is I currently have five excellent auditions to choose between. So searching out more great narrators would probably not be wise. :-D

My regret is that I have relatively few projects this year and so many talented people to choose from.
