Pointsandwheels When I was young (in the 1980's), I had two books of collected serials from a Jewish organization. Each serial contained: 1) a selection from the Torah, 2) a "modern-day" story that showed some sort of moral behavior, like doing work promptly, being kind to others, or keeping the Sabbath, and 3) a black-and-white serial comic story. In the two volumes that I had, there were at least three comic stories. One was about three brothers who got separated while escaping from the Spanish Inquistion, but who were able to find each other thanks to rings their father had given them. One was about Peewee Reese and a friend fighting in WWII. (Peewee convinced his friend to become religious, and because the friend knelt to wash his hands before eating, he wasn't killed with the rest of his troop and was able to kill the Nazis who killed his buddies.) And third one that I remember had a young yeshiva boy following an ancient treasure map, only to discover that the treasure map ends right beneath his yeshiva library. He wakes up and realizes it was all a dream, but that the greatest treasure of the Jewish people is learning (or books; I don't quite remember.)

Has anyone else heard of these stories?

Pointsandwheels, are you still looking for these books?

Do you know what the Jewish organization was called? They might have a website, or a publishing arm or something.

Pointsandwheels Sadly, I don't. That sort of thing doesn't ping on the radar of an eight-year-old.

sounds interesting -- I'd like to keep this thread going.

Sarah | 38 comments These sound a bit like some of the books I had as a child that were put out by Artscroll, but I can't find any information about them online!
Edited to add: I may have found them! http://store.kehotonline.com/The-Silv... this sounds like the first story you describe, so perhaps the books you had were from this publisher.

Pointsandwheels Sarah, that definitely sounds like one of the stories! I have written to the publisher to see if they might have been the ones to put out the comic book version.

Thank you so much!

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 139 comments Or could have been some sort of Chabad publication?

Pointsandwheels It's certainly possible, and that's another good avenue to try.

Pointsandwheels Tov m'eod, everyone! Sara's mention of _The Silver Rings_ cracked the case!

Like I said, I emailed the publisher of that book. And in the response, the woman mention a Chabad publication called "Shaloh". And while mentions of it are few and far between on the web, there are enough that...Yes!

So if this has piqued your interest, what you are looking for is Shaloh, 1-24 & 25-48, put out through Merkos L'Inyonet Chinuch. There's also a book called _Shaloh: The Complete Collection_ on Amazon, which is probably the whole thing, but I can't confirm that.

Note: the publisher is based out of Chabad, so you were right on that point.

Thank you all so very much!
