Amanda Ally, I just wanted to say that you are an amazing writer! Also, I was wondering what tips would you give to an aspiring writer on how you create the story line and the characters themselves.
Thank you so much for your talents!
-Amanda

Becky (barmy_bex) | 1 comments Like everyone on this page I am a massive fan of your series. Love them, they have really stuck with me and I smile every time I see them!

- Which character perspective did you like writing the most?
- Do you plan your novels or just sit and right (plotter or panster?)
- Did you have much say in the covers? Because they are gorgeous, some of my all time favourites. But can you tell us where the dresses were from? I love them and really want one.
- What are your plans now you have finished the triliogy?

Ailbhe Guilford (leprachaunpix) | 1 comments Hey Ally,
I love your books and I'm so excited that you're dedicating a day entirely to answering your fans questions. I thinks it's really nice of you. Anyway, I just wanted to ask you if you can relate personally to any of your characters or if you based any of them on you or people you know? Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. You're amazing!!! :)

Vidya G. | 1 comments Dear Ally,
What was your inspiration to write the Matched trilogy and are you happy with how it turned out?

message 255: by Halle (new)

Halle | 1 comments Dear Ally,

I am a great admirer of the Matched series, and I am so glad you can answer our questions on Goodreads. How did you get the idea for the whole Matched series? Was it just an idea that came to you, or was it sparked from another story? I have tried to write a dystopian series, almost like a fan-fiction of Matched, but it has been so hard. Any tips you could recommend? Please tell me there will be a Matched movie? Anyways, I doubt you will even read this, but I'm glad you are coming to Goodreads. Keep on writing!

Love,
Halle

message 258: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi! I am such a big fan of dystopian books and this are one of my favorite trilogies! My biggest request is to write another trilogy! But I have to ask, who do you know/wish will/would be in the movie????????? I have to know!

Jennifer wrote: "Is Reached the last book of the series?
Are there any other books or series you plan to write?"

Yes, Reached is the final book of the trilogy. But of course, I'm not Ally Condie, so I do not know. But I would love to know, too!

message 260: by maya (new)

maya (maya_with_a_y) What advice do you have for aspiring young authors?

message 261: by Candace (new)

Candace adkins | 1 comments I loved the books and thought they were all amazing (me and my friend have spread them all over our school, even the teachers read them now) my question was is it difficult for you to write in a way that makes the readers emotionally invested with the characters (like when Vick died i felt like i was going to die)? Also what part of the writing process is most difficult?

Amy | 1 comments ally, who is your fave character?

message 267: by Kiah (new)

Kiah | 1 comments Hi Ally,

I guess my biggest question to you is where you got the idea to create this corrupted futuristic society that believes it can control everything and everybody? It's so creative to me, and is so far from anything I could come up with myself :) So, yeah, that's my question lol.

message 268: by Emma (new)

Emma Stevens | 1 comments Hey Ally, are going to write more books????

message 269: by Vellichor (last edited Mar 07, 2013 10:16AM) (new)

Vellichor (sunquist) | 1 comments What was the purpose of the test tubes? Is there another book (or more) forthcoming in which the purpose of the tubes is a major factor? There are so many wonderful things that could be done with that thread! I know that you said it's a trilogy, but there are so many possibilities!

message 270: by Ana (new)

Ana Dear Ally,
What is it like being a famous author? Do you have any tips for young aspiring authors? How did you come up with the idea for the Matched trilogy? Who's your favorite character in the books?

Sincerely,
Stacie

message 271: by Rachael (new)

Rachael (Fishy101) | 1 comments I was wondering if you are ever going to write another book. Personally, I think you should make it into a series b/c the ending just wasnt enough for me! I really want to know more....idk....just my opinion

message 272: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 2 comments Hi Ally!

I've read a lot of dystopian fiction and I have to say your style is really unique. You probably have the most poetic and artsy dystopian book out there, which was really cool to read.

My favorite character was Indie. I felt bad for her though. She never really found love, or someone who she felt totally accepted her. I actually thought she was going to end up with Xander for a while. I know you're in English teacher because I've read your Bio on the back of the book, so I was wondering if Indie's loneliness was intentional or symbolic in some way. What motive did you have for having her die?

message 273: by Converseuser (new)

Converseuser | 2 comments it made me soooo sad when i found out Indie dies, um yeah, just wanted to throw that out there.

message 274: by Kait (new)

Kait Hi Ally!
My question is if you lived in Cassia's society, what would you miss the most? I love your books! :) -Kait

message 275: by Johns (new)

Johns Hi Ally!
So, I have been wanting an answer for this for some time and I'd like to ask if the Scoiety was based off any other civilization? Or was it something you just thought up? If so, how did you work out all the kinks and imperfections that made the rules and regulations?

message 276: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 2 comments Converseuser wrote: "it made me soooo sad when i found out Indie dies, um yeah, just wanted to throw that out there."

sorry. oops. Is there any way to hide spoilers?

message 277: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 3 comments Hi there Ally! I absolutely am in love with the Matched trilogy. You are an amazing writer! I do have a question though: in Crossed Ky and Cassia seemed extremely close and passionate around each other while in Reached they were not that romantically close in my opinion. Is there an explanation for this? Thank you so much!

message 278: by Hadley (new)

Hadley | 1 comments Before you wrote the series, did you map everything out or just start writing?

message 279: by Bex (new)

Bex (bexlovesbooks) | 1 comments Ally,
Cassia has a lot of favorite poems in Matched, but what are yours?

message 280: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Nielsen (annabethjackson) | 1 comments Hi Rachel here:) me and my friend have some questions...

Was Lei's appearance inspired by people of Hawaiian or Filipino ethnicity? What caused you to create the character this way? Was it possibly due to the fact that Lei is very connected to the water, and basing her appearance off of that of the Pacific Islanders would bring that connection further into the light for readers?

Do you enjoy writing essays and journalistic writings as much as you enjoy writing fiction?

What is your opinion of Ky?

How do you feel about the Society's political views? Do you believe that it is possible that even a democracy could go down such a road as to condemn even our freedom of choice?

Are you bilingual? If so, what other language(s) do you speak?

What is your favorite YA book as of now?

How realistic is it, really, to try to make a living off of writing fiction?

Thanks. Your awesome! (by the way-I'm totally team Xander)

message 281: by Sabryna (new)

Sabryna Brooks (sabrynabrooks) Where did you come up with Ky, Xander and Cassia as characters? How did they become the main characters for the Matched Trilogy?

message 282: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Hoop (j_hoop) | 1 comments Why did you choose a dystopian theme for the Matched series?

PS: Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.

message 283: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (adtrrachel) How to you come up with who ends up with who (Ky, Xander and Cassia)? What influences your decisions?

message 284: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (awrootbeer) | 1 comments hi, i liked the books but i don't get how ky could fall for cassia when the never talked before?
who put ky in the match pool? what was Xander doing when cassia and ky are in the outter provinces? and what inspired you to write a dystopia book? because i love reading them but can't write them.
Thanks, Alyssa

message 285: by Ava (new)

Ava | 2 comments How did you get inspired to write this series?

message 286: by bel (last edited Mar 05, 2013 04:06PM) (new)

bel | 2 comments Dear Ally,

I am a huge fan of these books! I am currently reading Reached, and love it! Where did you get all of the inspiration for the books? How was it that you kept track of the society, and built upon it? When I read the books, I feel as if the characters develop. How did you create this? Did the characters develop sub-consciously? I understand that there are a lot of action scenes, and several underlying plots, how did these get created? Was there any real life inspiration? Was there ever an underlying thought? If you could change anything about the books, what would it be? Were there ever any parts of the story that you didn't know how to answer?

These are definitely a lot of questions, but I love these books! yay Cassia!

thanks

message 287: by Mo (new)

Mo (epicbookwormwriter) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Madhura, I really loved The Matched Trilogy, and loved the symbolism.

How did you come out with the book in general? As in, how did you think of all the messages (be a strong person, stand up for what you believe in, and so many others) And how did you think of the symbolism that carried these messages? Is there a special event in your life that triggered this?

Thanks!!
Jess

message 292: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn | 2 comments I love dystopian books and I read your series and fell in love with Matched! What made you create this dystopian society where books and writing by hand were some of the key components of your society? Did you get inspiration from other books like Fahrenheit 451? Or just our modern progression in technology? I also adore romance so, when you started the series did you decide Ky and Cassia should end up together? Or did you chose between Xander and Ky as you wrote the series?

message 293: by Jamie (new)

message 295: by Rachel (new)
