The Lightning Thief
question
What else should I recommend to my nephew?

My nephew who is 13, FINALLY started reading for pleasure. (My sister and I are avid readers who picked up reading before the age of 10) He read all of the first series by Rick Riordan and he's up to the Athena book of Heroes of Olympus. What other books(no ebooks please - he doesn't have an ereader) can I find for him that he may like similar to this series? He does want to read Harry Potter and I have already given him and his younger brother a full set. (The younger one has already started HP1!) Please help! I want to help him find more books to be passionate about. Thank you!
**Edit: I do have The Hunger Games to give him also.
****I appreciate new authors very much but please DO NOT use this to promote your books unless you already have a series(3 or more books only) going. I need series to keep him interested. Thank you!****

I enjoyed the Dreamhunter Duet by Elizabeth Knox...Dreamhunter and Dreamquake. And I thought the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare were good as well.
And I agree with the Veronica Roth's Divergent Series and Harry Potter series...those are both great at any age!

I just read recently read the book, THE FALSE PRINCE, which about an orphan, Sage, who is in training with 2 other boys to replace the long lost prince of a country called Carthya.

It's a very clever and thrilling book. I absolutely loved reading it and I re-read it a couple of times. It also has a sequel that is being released in March called, THE RUNAWAY KING. I was able to read it early and it was just as fun and thrilling as THE FALSE PRINCE. It even has pirates. :-D

Both books are appropriate for every teenage boy. He will love it.

I absolutely loved these!! I think theyre 100% appropriate for your nephew's age group! I just recommended them to my 12 year old cousin:
Magyk: Septimus Heap by Angie Sage
There's a whole series going up to 7 books (the 7th actually comes out in 2 months)
Hope I could help! I totally recommend it!

Harry Potter is a good idea...When i was that age (Yeah, I'm a girl, but i have some pretty good suggestions.) I read:
Deltora Quest, By Emily Rodda
The Three Doors Trilogy, By Emily Rodda
And all the spin-off series to these two :)
The only other thing i can think of is The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, By Heather Brewer...i can't remember, but I don't think they were that gruesome.

The Theodore Boone series by John Grisham is great. Books by Ridley Pearson (particularly The Kingdom Keepers, for me) are probably something he would enjoy, too.
ya the alchemyst and FORSAKEN/LEGEND/STARTERS/DIVERGENT
The Forsaken
Legend
Starters
Divergent
I have a 13 year old daughter and she loves these

The Alchemyst by Michael Scott is great, um...you could try the Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix (loved it :D) and the Children of the Red King by Jenny Nimmo (absolutely amazing!)
You can try Crystal Doors by Rebecca Moesta I believe and the Leven Thumps series by Obert Skye. I'm 13 and loved all these books, but then again, it was the genres i liked. Harry Potter is absolutely amazing! I heard that the Sister Grimms series was good, but I havent read it myself, and you should try some of Rick Riordan's extra stories from the Demigod Files and Demigod Diaries. Hoped the list helped!

You could try The Hunger Games. It isn't scary. Or gruesome

Every guy's tastes are a bit different and you would be best advised to give him a variety of choices. Here are a few that I think you should check out.
Hatchet
The Power of One
Gone
Eighth Grade Bites
Tangerine
Whale Talk
Zach's Lie
Crisis on Vulcan
Dakota Dream
Ordinary Magic
Mr. Midshipman Hornblower
Encyclopedia Brown, Boy Detective
That covers a variety of tastes and I thought that they were all four stars or better. Some I read when I was young, some I wish I had.
You'd also do well to check out the honoree lists for such prizes as the Caldecott Award and others.
You might also consider introducing them to the idea of reading in other forms. The Harry Potter books have all been read by Jim Dale in Audio-book format and they're great.
