Erik Rolén | 9 comments This is a young-adult/ juvenile book I read in school sometime in the mid 90s.

It started with a boy playing games or chatting or something, when a pop-up appears inviting him into a "realistic" game.

He is sucked in and is transported to a ruin or something. Equipped with a gun and armor he gets attacked by either monsters or humans and is injured.
(realizing it hurts and he can't log out)

Later when he gets out of the ruins he meets a girl who also got sucked in, but she didnt attack the monsters/humans and was left alone. She treats the boy's injuries and they continue together.

They soon learn that everyone in the game is real and the creator is there aswell.

I think the creator tells them he invited several "top players" to teach them a lesson. But they were the only ones to survive.

This is really driving me crazy that i remember so clear but can't find anything.

Hm. There's a few it could be. Maybe The Ultimate Game? or User Unfriendly?

Erik Rolén | 9 comments It's not User Unfriendly.

It could be The Ultimate Game. But I can't find any information on it except those 3 sentences linked.

*Edit
I'm pretty sure this is it. But we'll see in about a week. :)

Cool! Keep us posted. I hope that's it, but if not I'll keep looking (there were a lot of books with similar plots published around that time) or someone else may come along and remember it straight off.

Erik Rolén | 9 comments Just got it...
It wasn't the right one :(

In the Ultimate game Zak needs to re enter the game 3 times. In my book the main character only enters once, and I'm not sure he ever leaves

I'm going to throw out Blow Me Down even tho I don't believe that this is it. It actually has a girl, her Mum and the game creator, plus an evil guy who is the one who traps them all in the game.

Erik Rolén | 9 comments nope, no pirates im afraid : /

But I think there was a indian/african village or something.

Jai | 59 comments There are several lists on Goodreads about books set in video game worlds. One that might prove useful is:

Books About Video Games and Virtual Reality

Erik Rolén | 9 comments Gone throught that list to no avail.
A common theme on these books is that they knowingly entered a VR game.

But I'm pretty sure that in the one I'm looking for he doesn't have any equipment or such.
It's just an ordinary pop-up on your web browser. That somehow sucks him in.

I'm also pretty sure it was set in the present

A major plot point was also that the villagers (or NPCs) were real people.

Ashley (ashinscribbleland) | 62 comments Doubtful, but um "Heir Apparent" same world as "User Unfriendly"

Erik Rolén | 9 comments yeah, checked those two + the third "Deadly Pink"
the problem is that they know it's a Virtual Reality game. And willingly entered it.

I´m pretty sure the protagonsit was unwillingy pulled into the game.

I'm also starting to think this could have been a swedish book that never got translated.

Jai | 59 comments Wikipedia has a page listing books about virtual reality in fiction.

Erik Rolén | 9 comments Nothing...

I don't know what else I can say to narrow it down.

I left elementary school 2002, so I must have been released before then. It was also in Swedish so the English version had to be written earlier. (if there were an English version)
