Alexandra (ms_alexandra) I don't have much to go on, but I'm looking for a book or a series of books that my Dad read and loved as a child. All he can remember is a character is called Olly/Ollie took.

My dad is 53 and he read them when he was around the age of 5 to 8, but he can't remember if they were just published or older when he read them.

He also remembers that the character had something to do with trains. Either the engineer, or the driver, or the man who kept the fire going.

And that's all I have, I'm afraid, because that's all he remembers. Any and all help would be appreciated!

Cheryl (cherylllr) They could have been Little Golden Books, and there's a website for nostalgic fans that lists all of them.

Alexandra (ms_alexandra) Oh my word, I'm so sorry! I never got notifications until now, and I never checked back because I knew i'd subscribed.
I'll look into the Little Golden Books.

I moved your request back to the "Unsolved" folder.

Alexandra (ms_alexandra) Thank you very much.

By the way, it's not the Little Golden Books. They seem to be about a little boy called Ollie, and the story i'm looking for is about a man.

Now another person is looking for this series too, so I'll link up his thread:

Ayshe | 4721 comments The Hartwarp Light Railway by John Pudney? According to "Growing Point", 1968 it's "first of a series of zany tales about Olly Took and his brother Gaffer, who live at either end of the narrow gauge line to Grunty Quarry. Charley's fun with the peculiar Took locomotive must be the envy of the countless children who follow this endlessly inventive and hilarious saga."
